Then there is the whole functionality thing. Really you are better off getting like a phone + PSP or video iPod if you need multimedia shit on the go. Would still be cheaper even with accessories. : [ Oh and the camera thing.. 2mp is plenty, the real thing to look at is what its made of. Most phones use plastic lenses and shit, so they still look terrible. 1-2mp with quality components is plenty for a camera phone. Im gonna assume it uses decent shit as opposed to most of the competition.

Its like getting a top computer and a 15" monitor with it. A 15" monitor es "enuff", but doesnt match the rest of the computer. So you're looking for iPhone with a 5mp, 3x optical zoom digital camera, big flash on it, at the price tag of 600$ with all of those unique features? LOLZ, keep it real, mate. In term of picture quality from these little cameras, I say 2,3 MP is not so much different from 5MP, why? Because of the size of the optical lens is so bloody small (to keep the battery usage & occupied space to a minimum). Apple addded the camera in just for the sake that everyphone these days has a camera, not that they want to commercialize iPhone as a CameraPhone like SonyK800 (where u get 3.15 MP, 2048x1536 pixels, autofocus, video(QCIF), xenon flash; secondary video call VGA camera). And also, the price includes how much money they've invested in developing: mutli-finger gesture recognition & scrolling, desktop class applications (iPhone runs OSX), and superb design.

to compare... i bought the Nokia N91 (UK version) for $800USD and its 2mp camera/video, 4GB hd, triband-3G, gps phone. it just got released in the states for $599. (iphone price)... **you don't really want a really big hd because the fone will lag like crazy without a good OS. but 4GB is more then enuf, considering the nearest competitor is 1gb. **1mp vs 2mp- they are WORLDSSSSSSS apart... if you haven't seen a 2mp cell phone pic compared to a 1mp, then you don't know what you're talking about. **the resoultion for the screen size is freaking amazing. i saw it on tv the other day and it basically destroys everything i've seen in cell phone capabilities. **if you take apart the phone and buy seperate things, of course its going to be "better" (psp + phone + ipod + camera) but that takes away the entire idea of the iPhone. its ALL IN ONE. that's the "wow factor" apple is selling. you don't need to carry all that bullshit with you. that's why you'd want this fone, so you don't have to have a damn purse to carry all those other shits. EDIT: i just read the "full specs" of the iphone, the gimmic is .. you have to sign a 2 year contract with cingular, so i take back my statement saying its cheap, its considering expensive just for this reason and its locked with cingular, no zoom camera, no 3g, no gps. but the screen is made of special crystal to prevent major scratches. so overall, i think the iphone will sell like crazy to those who are into anything with an "I" infront of it.

Looks good to me but I would rather have a basic camera flip phone as one thing and a music player as another. I don't need internet and shit in my pocket. I don't need a phone that plays music either.

If I had an iPod I would mostly be using it in the car, as I dont really feel comfortable wearing headphones and listening to music in public places. Every friend of mine who has an iPod that I know uses it at least a majority of the time in their car(Maybe its just a california thing, we drive a lot), so I couldnt have it running out of juice constantly cuz it would also be a phone. : [ Also space isnt that great, at good quality album is gonna be like 100+ megs so I would personally use up 4gb very quickly. And who knows what kind of enforced compatibility Apple will try to throw on this(I could imagine they requiring you to use .m4a/.aac or w/e the Apple format is). Jack of all trades, master of none comes to mind with this thing and if you just want an MP3 phone there are plenty that have decent space and are much cheaper on a cell plan(Those chocolates are like 100 + 50 for a gig of memory).

The price is quite high, but when it drops to a reasonable price for me, I will definately pick it up. My LG phone sucks as a standalone MP3 player since the battery on it drain so fast. It could be that because it It runs MP3 off of a memory card. Typing on it is horrible so I try to message as little as possible on it. The iPhone looks like it will do to cellphone what the iPod did to MP3 player.

Instead they take it step by step and get everyone to pay for every device. "The iPhone looks like it will do to cellphone what the iPod did to MP3 player." True, they're inventing a bigger wheel every time.

For listening to music its 16 hours I think, similar to the ipod.
