I hope HoTs picks things back up. less noteworthy games on day 1 due to the new format we didn't get any games from the heavy hitting fan favorites like hero, taeja, stephano, etc. also mkp being in the open bracket I wonder if MLG was banking on Kespa players coming to this event and hyping it that way . . . either way, each event is getting less activity on the TL forums. I can't possibly see how MLG is growing viewership with SC2 (as they claim) when things are so drastically reduced here? This is the second MLG event in a row that I had no idea was going on till I saw day9's FB message saying going live in x mins. It's getting dam near impossible to tell when tournaments are happening their needs to be a better way for events to hype themselves other than hoping their thread doesn't get buried on TL. On another note doesn't MLG normally have brackets on their site/stream? Well... MLG probably purposely didn't hype this because there was nothing really to hype. What were they really going to say? "And our secret seeded players are: Binski, sasquatch, caliber, gix!!!"
When we read that, most of our responses were probably along the lines "Who?" and "What the fuck?" right?

Hm yeah, I actually think the biggest problem was the fact that we have to wait for the open bracket to catch up to go past the first round of the group stage. Because we didn't have an open bracket posted anywhere for most of the day there was no excitement building. All we could do is watch some pretty boring match-ups in the first round of the group play without knowing what was going on anywhere else.
No offense to the guys in the group stage that I consider " boring " It's just that Wings of Liberty is over 2 years old at this point and I don't get excited for players I don't follow or players that don't play at the highest level. It didn't help that some of them were horribly outmatched ( Violet vs gix anyone? )
Idra and Scarlett in WCS was a great storyline to follow today, though. We can be happy we had WCS to watch instead of just being stuck with MLG.

The biggest name is MarineKing... AND WE DIDN'T GET TO SEE HIM PLAY. We got players like Sasquatch in the championship bracket while Marine king has to play a shit load of games to get there.
It's ok... once Marine king is in the finals with Taeja... ratings will skyrocket.
Completely agree with this post, if they had to invite players to make up for the lack of Kespa players they should have went big and tried to get Mvp/Nestea/MC/DRG/MMA ( fuck I miss MMA at MLG ) and SEED MARINEKING don't make him play in the open bracket. At least show his games in the open bracket if he absolutely must be there.

Obviously, the plan was for them to show eight KeSPA vs. (somebody else) matches on Friday. Without the big-name players to generate excitement, the pace of the Group Play schedule really stuck out.

It was nice to watch Grubby do well on the opening day. WCS matches were good. Looking forward to the bigger game starting tomorrow.

So stoked to see my compatriot NadaViking take on HuK tomorrow!!

I think one of the big reasons for less posts this time is the chrome issues. I didnt watch because of that. I opened up my IE and it didnt have flash so I closed it and played D3

I feel like MLG is that stubborn grandparent that still seems to be stuck in the stone age. No matter how many times you tell them to get a cell phone and e-mail while showing them the benefits of it, they continually refuse and still try to send you telegrams and written letters, because that's the way they do it, and they'll be damned if they conform to the modern age.

Yea...this MLG seemed oddly awful. Probably the worst one I've ever watched and only Scarlett/Idra WCG stuff was worth watching. I assume this was KESPA screwing MLG over and MLG not bothering to deploy a plan B?

Depending on how much lead time there was, it could have caused some problems. If you had one of the top seeds, you'd go from having no matches until Saturday afternoon to having multiple matches on Friday.

For now this MLG seems to be quite bad but it was bad luck not to have good games. Tommorow with some better advertising and better matches there should be more viewers. We should have expected this since Europe and Asia will not watch because of the time and the players are quite bad. Next time get Mvp/Mc/Nestea/DRG plus MarineKing/TaeJa/HerO/Stephano, get casters like Husky and TB which have their own fanbases and do better advertising and thing will be much better.

I've just started watching the restream. I can pause, but if i try to skip forward i get a PPV popup - can you skip without PPV?

WCS really saved it for me. I didn't think I was going to enjoy it, but it was a blast. Hope the next 2 days can compare

I think it'll take until sunday for the MLG itself to be interesting. WCS finals tomorrow should be awesome. Would love to see idrA win.

Yea the WCS totally saved MLG tonight. Following Idra's games were a blast for instance. Really happy to see him showing good form again. No matter what happens tomorrow, Idra, Vibe, and Scarlett are all top non-korean foreigners who deserve recognition for their talent. I'd be happy with any of them winning.
