If I was thinking of buying a HD pass, I'm not anymore. Sounds like you wouldnt pay for an HD pass anyway if you ahd all the functionality you depend on. You know, it might sound like it to you, but that's clearly not what I said. I was considering buying an HD ticket for the last MLG, and I would surely buy one if it meant I couldn't have watched the Kespa players last time. I was also considering buying a ticket with my friends for the MLG before that, so we could watch together in HD. But now, I don't want to buy anything from a company that presumes that having such sadistic functionality as being able to watch the rebroadcast, but not rewind it, is a good idea. That's there clearly just to irritate people into buying it. Personally I would prefer for MLG to convince me to buy it by having really good production quality and extra perks. I don't know, I'm just weird like that, I guess. I mean I watched the hell out of the last IEM. I watched for free, in HD, I had access to VODs in a really short amount of time and also replay packs of all the games played. Now next time that IEM asks 10$ or 15$ for 1080p or something, I will seriously consider buying it, even though watching in 720p is just fine for me, but I would like to support them. Because the quality they gave out for free was better than anything I saw MLG dish out. It can only get more awesome with our financial support right ? And like budar said, a 15 or 30$ dollar investment isn't trivial to some people, especially in SC2 target audience, ie. probably not yet employed young males. Ok, fair enough. what would MLG need to do for you to pull you over the line? serious question! Is the ability of viewing the rebroadcast with rewind and fast forward functionality enough? or is there something extra that would also need to happen before you are convinced? Because most previous MLGs offered the rewind and fast forward functionality.
And that's the whole point - previous MLGs offered this, and this one doesn't. So instead of making the premium product better, they downgraded the free product hoping it would get more people to buy the HD pass (I assume, barring it's a bug or something). And btw, I'm not at all saying they have "no right to do that" or whatever - they have every right to do it, but I have just as much right to say it makes me think much worse of them.
They probably don't care, and honestly, they probably shouldn't because they aren't really making money off me. I live in a "3rd world country" for which they have no ad deals and their prices are high for me so I'm not very likely to buy any of their premium products. I'd love to see the FP views from the players and sometimes the games I really want to see are on the premium channels. But hey, I never even thought to myself that "it's not fair" or that they should make that free as well and I never watched any restreams - because I could actually enjoy most of the event, be it at a lower quality than some other people. But this event, I'll probably see like 30% of the games I would have seen on the previous events. So yeah, that kind of annoys me.

Well yeah, as I admit, before I did consider buying the ticked. That I didn't was just the way it turned out, not out of some strong conviction against MLG. I mean yeah, there are small gripes with it, like the stream sometimes being laggy and tacking a lot of time between games, but nothing that would really drive me away from them.
But now it seems their management is trying a new policy, which in short is, let's cut back on essential functionality and put so many commercials into the stream that it becomes unwatchable without paying. Ok, their right to do what they want, GomTV is actually worse. Their stream was never really watchable without paying. But my right, as a consumer, is to say, screw you, I have access to free streams with similar or even better quality than you. I'm not gonna pay. (admittedly it's harder to say that to Gom than MLG, since you really are missing on the best league in sc2 by not watching GSL)
Bottom line is, such tactics won't push me over the edge and make me a paying customer. They have the opposite effect, to drive me away. Because if the tournament organizers don't have the respect towards potential customers, then they lose my respect. (and I'm sure they can live with that )
