Day 1 of Raleigh last time around was 12,000+ posts on day 1. This time, combined with WCS, we're at around 4,000 posts. I hope HoTs picks things back up. less noteworthy games on day 1 due to the new format we didn't get any games from the heavy hitting fan favorites like hero, taeja, stephano, etc. also mkp being in the open bracket I wonder if MLG was banking on Kespa players coming to this event and hyping it that way . . . either way, each event is getting less activity on the TL forums. I can't possibly see how MLG is growing viewership with SC2 (as they claim) when things are so drastically reduced here? This is the second MLG event in a row that I had no idea was going on till I saw day9's FB message saying going live in x mins. It's getting dam near impossible to tell when tournaments are happening their needs to be a better way for events to hype themselves other than hoping their thread doesn't get buried on TL. On another note doesn't MLG normally have brackets on their site/stream?
They were having major problems online and at the event with posting open bracket stuff for the spectators. Some people wanted to see their friends play and instead of being able to look at a bracket posted somewhere they had to go right to the person that was recording the brackets to find out who was playing where and who the opponent was.
On the other hand the brackets for Groups were on Liquipedia but the names just didnt pop like usual. Grubby vs Rain probably had the most interest of the first day considering how the games went.
Also there was a countdown on the schedule for MLG i think.

A lot of people seem to be complaining about MLG with the caveat that WCS saved the day, but remember that MLG noticed/received a lot of negative feedback about the simultaneous WCS/MLG schedule overload, so the thin MLG lineup probably went hand-in-hand with the big success of WCS that was occurring concurrently. It seems pretty clear that today was meant to get most of WCS out of the way, while the bulk of the real MLG games happens Saturday and Sunday. That said, I still enjoyed the underdog wins in MLG today, such as Grubby beating Rain and Sasquatch beating Goody. Binski beating Ganzi would've also been cool to see as an upset, but I was watching the other stream and didn't see that one.

wtf is major not in the open bracket ? :O

This is probably the worst format ever. Absolutely no good games from MLG on day 1 (i don't care about wcs). Good seeds from Summer arena have to face open bracket players (whose idea was that ???) They let ppl get used to their old format (that is also very dumb), just to change it to another dumb format.
I mean Sasquatch vs Goody have better chances of advancing in their "group" than Oz or stephano because they will face a good open bracket player...

You can't skip from the previous day anymore without an HD ticket? TT
Guess I'll only watch the games that happen to air before midnight, ah well.

Jesus christ. Look how bad the Open Bracket is. MLG can not expect the viewers to be happy with this.

Wondered if I was the only one having this issue....no real VOD + worst possible schedule for europe, feels we're going backwards again.

I think they'll be okay with a bit of luck. I imagine the story line of Stephano against the koreans being very popular and maybe a Stephano Taeja MKP final 3 would get a HUGE number of viewers.

Can't skip through the VoD without paying even though I could do it for free at all the previous events...
real smart

How was Grubby's game(s), anyone? It was way too late for me as a european so couldn't watch it myself.
|
So now that the full bracket is up, I noticed JYP got two walkovers, then got walked over himself. Did he not go?
|
What happened to Thorzain and JYP? In LP the other players seem to have got a bye over them? Is that correct? Or there is just no score available?
And that open bracket distribution is kind of strange...the first bracket has almost as much known players as the others combined =/ guess the stars aligned for some players that get a chance to go far and get more people to notice them. Good for them.
Also nice that binski won vs ganzi lol

All 3 games were macro games. in game 1 grubby pretty much blew his chance because rain was leading his army around and the slow high templars got caught way out of position, so grubby lost like 7 HTs with enough energy for storm only getting 2 storms off. the other 2 games grubby was just able to beat Rain in the late game usually with better positioning

Can't browse through the restream without an HD pass... great move, really. The mastermind that thought it up should really get a raise.
MLG prospect: "Why do we let the stupid Europeans browse through the restream and see the games - that way they won't get our HD pass (i.e. watch pass) and give us money?" MLG exec: "Wow, you're totally right, here's a dollar" MLG prospect: "Woof, woof, money!!!" MLG exec: "Yeah baby, we're training them right"

Who are these people seeded into openbracket round5?
