Continue letting him be a pompous brat, now thats a punishment. having taught exactly this kind of student before (debate kids can be a...special breed) i have actually found that a little bit of gentle shaming can be good all around. obviously you dont want to humiliate the guy with stupid shit, but if you show him that there are 10000 similar questions that he *hasn't* thought about, it can be both humbling and an incentive for him to work harder to learn about those things. of course, asking dumb stuff like 'why do you use hashtags on facebook' doesnt quite accomplish this. also, its way more effective if peers do this (showing that they too have specialized knowledge which can yield some fancy questions) because it tends to be resented when it comes from an authority figure. | ||
