Introduction: Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.
The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.
Rules: Cheating: Cheating includes (but is not limited to): 1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information. 2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town. 3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role. 4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles. 5. Posting screenshots of your inbox. 6. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host. 7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip. 8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts. 9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits. 10. Sharing accounts with other players. Only you may post on your account. . Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe.
Posting: Mod Font: This is mod font. It is reserved for moderators. Please do not use it.
Question Font: This is question font. Use it to ask the moderators questions about the rules. Please do us a favor and read the rules before you ask anything.
Activity: You must post in this thread once per day/night cycle and vote every day while you are alive. If you fail to do so, you will be modkilled. This setup requires a lot of activity. If you can't provide it, don't play. I reserve the right to replace people who are not being active enough
Smurfs: No smurfs. These setups are hard enough as is, meta will be helpful. No hydras, as usual.
Spam: Spam is not tolerated, nor is any off-topic material. Do not discuss Proleague here. Do not talk about Starcraft II here. Play Mafia here.
Editing: Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again if you have to edit anything.
Inappropriate posts: If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a Me. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally. I have zero tolerance for flaming, and I will ban/modkill you. You have been warned
Reporting posts: The report button is a nice feature for regular TL, but not for this forum. We prefer to deal with things in house if possible to avoid confusion among the TL staff. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to me before using your report button. Please do not use your report button for anything other than inappropriate posts which you feel are not being dealt with adequately.
Ban discussions: Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game. Same deal with bitching about balance. Wait till the game is over, and then feel free to yell at me
Play to win. This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing.
This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM your host if you need to leave the game.
You have been warned.
Out of thread communication: It is common for mafia (and town circles if PMs are allowed) to use a medium outside of TL such as QuickTopics or IRC to communicate during the game. Please be mindful that other players may be more tech savvy than you and they may attempt impersonate members of your team or attempt to infiltrate your chat. You use these media at your own risk.
Voting rules: 1. Voting is done in some other thread. Please keep votes there, and only vote there. Do not PM me your vote. 2. Please vote in the following format: ##Vote: GMarshal. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will update vote counts whenever I get the chance. 3. No conditional voting. 4. You may vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game. 5. This game uses Extended Majority Lynch. That is, at the deadline the player with a majority of votes is lynched (majority = 1/2 the remaining players, rounded down + 1), if no one has a majority then no lynch will take place. 6. Voting is mandatory. You may NOT abstain. You MAY vote for a no lynch by posting ##Vote: No Lynch
Signups: This game is open to anyone with extreme preference for players who are known to be active and mannered. Signups will remain open until all spots have been filled .
Game-specific rules: Modkills: This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please PM Flamewheel or post in the Ban List.
Replacements This game uses replacements. Replacements will be made in the game until whenever I deem. If a player is modkilled during the designated time, then they will be replaced by a player on the replacement list.
Clues: There are NO clues.
PMs PMs are NOT allowed in this game.
Time Cycle: This game will follow a 24 hour night/48 hour day cycle. In case I am not able to post around deadline, any votes after the 48 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until the night post is up. Currently the deadline is 01:00 GMT (+00:00) for the day and 00:00 GMT (+00:00) for the night (that gives me an hour to figure out night actions), but that is subject to change. Actions/votes will be accepted up to and including the posted time, but not after.
Credits: Thanks to anyone who has ever hosted a game. This list grows ever longer. Thanks to everyone who helped balance this game.
If you have not read all the rules, go back and do so. I will not compensate for ignorance!

Setup information
Role Reveals: Upon death, the role and affiliation of the deceased will be revealed in the thread to all.
Draft System
Phase Ordering: 1) Signups are full! Alignment PMs are distributed. 3) 24 hours are allotted for everyone to submit a pair of draft numbers to me via PM. 3) The draft order is published. 4) Everyone PMs me their role pick in the next 24 hours. 5) Everyone receives their role and Day 1 begins. Day 1 runs for 48 hours.
Of course, all the Mafia know each other before anything happens. The order of the draft will be revealed after everyone sends in their numbers. The pool of roles will always be available. The pool of roles will be picked secretly by draft order via PM. Once that role is gone, if anyone else tries to pick it later they will be notified it is gone and will end up stuck with their Vanilla Role. It is entirely possible to end up with Scum Cops, Scum Vigilantes, Town Role blockers and so on.
Drafting Phase:
The draft order works like this. Every player will pick 2 numbers between 1-20 and PM me. Once I have everyone's selections I will reveal the draft order. If you do not send in numbers you will automatically be placed at the bottom of the draft behind all players that sent in numbers. If multiple people do not send in numbers I will random the order at the bottom.
The first number closest to 1 that is picked will be first in the draft order. Of course that would be too easy so if several players pick the same number they all will be reset to last in the draft order. In that case. I would move on to the next lowest number (in this case 2) and the same rules apply. If no other player has picked the number 2 while someone else has, they will become first in the draft order. And so on until I get to #20.
Now the second number picked is used to determine who goes first in the event of players picking the same number. The lowest number of the second number goes first and so on. In the event players picked the same 2 numbers I will once again reset them to the back of the queue(for the order they are in).
In the event that your first and second numbers clash with another player's you both go straight to the bottom of the order. So if 3 players picked [4][1], [4][1] and [4][7] the two players with [4][1] are bumped below the player that picked [4][7] along with the original bump. In these cases, the more unique a combination in comparison to others, the higher priority it has.
Player A - [4][19] Player B - [1][12] Player C - [1][6] Player D - [7][8] Player E - [3][4] Player F - [7][8] Player G - [7][20]
Players B and C both picked 1. They go to the back of the queue. Player E has the next lowest number and is the only one that picked 3. (S)he goes first. Then player A since (s)he is the only one to pick 4. Since Players D and E both picked [7][8], they are bumped below G, who has [7][20].
Current order, with bolded players locked into position.
Player E Player A Player B Player C Player G Player D Player F
Now I just resolve Players B, C, D,F and G. Between B and C, I look at the second number. B has a 12, C has a 6. So C gets to pick before B.
Current order, with bolded players locked into position.
Player E Player A Player C Player B Player G Player D Player F
And now it's time to order the bottom players. G had a more unique combination than D and F (who picked the same numbers), and therefore goes before them.
Player E Player A Player C Player B Player G Player D Player F
In the case of D and F I will randomly decide goes first since they have the same 2 numbers. For argument's sake let's say D rolled higher in a 1-10 roll than F. D goes before F.
Player E Player A Player C Player B Player G Player D Player F
Thus, the draft is now complete.
Uniqueness is key!

Of course there is a big debate because the OPs have been confusingly worded since the beginning (and PYP Insane/Interesting maybe some others also didn't follow how the OP is worded, the formula changed somewhere between PYP 2 and 3). GMarshal's way makes the most sense and that's how it was done in PYP Interesting. All blocks of first number picks are continuous. The formula is: Order the list by uniqueness of first number. Now all of the players who picked [x] as their first number are grouped into a sublist. The second number helps determine the relative orderings of these players who picked [x]. In the example of: 1. [19] 2. [1] 3. [1] 4. [6] 5. [6] 6. [7] 7. [7] 8. [7] 9. [7] There are 4 sublists. The sublist containing people who picked [19] as their first number, the sublist containing people who picked [1] as their first number, etc. Now you use the 2nd number to determine the order of people in each sublist. But each sublist maintains its slot in the ordering, so there are no 7s jumping before 1s. Just think of it as, 7 is the least unique number, so all the 7s go to the end of the list. All the players who picked 6 are part of a sublist that occupies slots 4-5 in the order. All players who picked 7 are now part of a sublist that occupies slots 6-9 in the draft order. Now repeat the process and order each sublist by uniqueness of the second number. Second number should be a tiebreaker for picking the same first number, there is no need to "make both numbers meaningful". 2nd number is only meaningful if you picked a bad first number. If you want the 2nd number to have more meaning, you might as well expand the range of numbers from like 1-100 just so that you get less clashes, or you might as well randomize the draft list. Making the 2nd number more meaningful just increases the luck. Keeping it as a tiebreaker makes people think more carefully about their 1st number pick.
Roles!
Information Roles
Role Cop - Pretty sweet. You can get people's roles!
Parity Cop - You are an Alignment Cop with the ability to compare Investigations. Instead of receiving "Innocent" or "Guilty" your targets will be compared for Alignment. On Night 1 you will receive no result. Every night after, the new person you investigate will be compared with the person you investigated the prior night. If they are all of the same alignment you will receive "Same" otherwise you will receive "Different". Framers, traitors and godfathers can still screw with you.
Bullet Bill you love bullets and the smell of gunpowder. At night you can target a player and find out if they are carrying a gun. You detect any of the roles under KP roles, as well as mafia. Remember that the framer can mess with you!
Tracker Follow someone and find out the first person they visited that night. (role abilities supersede alignment based abilities for the purpose of tracking. E.G if you were to track a scum roleblocker, you would see who he roleblocked, not who he killed. If you tracked a scum Veteran, you'd see him stay home, even if he carried out a kill, as his role ability (Veteran) is what you track, not his factional kill)
KP Roles
Day Vigilante - During the day you may type ##Kill: Player in the thread. That player is going to die and the day goes on. You can only shoot once.
Vigilante - At night during the game you may choose to shoot a player, this works exactly like a mafia KP for all intents and purposes. You have two bullets.
CPR Doctor -If the person you are protecting gets attacked then you save them as normal. However if they aren't attacked that night you end up killing them. You can not target yourself at night.
Angry Vigilante - One night during the game, starting after night 1, you may choose to shoot a player. Because of how angry you are, your shot will count as 2kp for the purpose of breaking through any protection the player way have.
Defensive Roles
Veteran - You get an extra night life! Cool! (This ability can be roleblocked). If you lose your night life it regenerates after the next night (so if you get shot night 1, you get your night life back day 3)
Doctor - You have the power to save lives. At night if you protect someone they will be able to survive being shot once
Jailkeeper - You are a wannabe medic, but you have no idea what you are doing so you just give your patients one of each pill. In addition to protecting them from the first kill to target them that night, they will also be roleblocked.
Hider - You are scared of being shot so you hide behind other players at night. If you are targeted to be killed then the kill will fail unless you are roleblocked. However if the person you chose to hide behind is killed/shot at then you will be also.
"Mafia" Roles
Godfather - You appear innocent to alignment checks. In addition, when you die you can take someone with you, when you are lynched you may type ##Kill: Playername and if that player voted for you he will die. (This must be done within 12 hours of your lynch)
Framer - You can target one target per night and make them appear as whatever role and alignment you wish. If you choose to frame someone as a kp role, even bullet bill will be deceived! You can't target yourself. You may not target the same person two nights in a row.
Traitor - You hold no allegiance to the town. In fact, you win with scum! However you have no idea who your team is now. You can never be recruited, but you should still do your best to help your new team. To help you, you have been given the following powers: 1 shot frame, 1 shot talk (same as the jack ability), 1 shot rolecop, 1 shot roleblock. Welcome to the mafia? (Serial Killers picking traitor will NOT have their win condition changed, although they still get the four one shot powers)
Role blocker - Prevent people from using their night powers? Sounds good to me.
Janitor - Busy always cleaning up after other people's mess. You love your job so much though that you'll even clean up dead bodies. During the Night you may PM me that you want to clean up all the dead bodies in Town. No player's role or alignment will be revealed upon death for that upcoming Day. You can only use this ability once.
Other Roles Pardoner - You can save a player from a lynch by PMing me that you want to save the player that will be lynched. You can use this ability once. You can not Pardon yourself.
Copy Cat - You start off with no powers. However once the first power role dies you get an exact copy of their role.
Witch - Like all awesome Witches you are a master of magic. If you choose to, one time only you can choose to receive a list of every player that will die that night. You can give one of them a life-saving potion that will prevent them from dying. You can only do this once.
Politician - As a person used to getting your way by any means necessary you may PM me during the day to buy a player's vote. You will have the ability to control where that player's vote is placed. They will of course lose control of their vote. Their vote will show up as voting where ever you want it to be via PM to me.
Mason - Such a friendly person you are! After the drafting phase you can choose, either I will randomly select one Pro-town person and you will both be able to communicate with each other for the rest of the game, or you can pick one person and you will both be able to communicate with each other for the rest of the game.
Jack Of All Trades - Aren't you the Renaissance man/woman? You can pick 1 power each night between: Investigate, Protect, Shoot, Talk. You only have 1 shot at using each power. Investigate gives results of an Role Cop check, protect cannot be used on yourself, and talk lasts from the end of the night phase until the end of the next night phase.
If you have any concerns about balance PMing me before the game starts is a good idea, as I'll ignore complaints after the game starts
Sample Role PMs + Show Spoiler [Vanilla Townie] + Welcome to PYP:Redux! You are [b][green]Vanilla Townie![green][b] You have no powers in the game except voting so far. Remember that the game is in draft phase and you get to pick your role! Any questions you have PM me or chaoser You win by getting rid of all anti-town players. (No code tags in the actual PM)
+ Show Spoiler [Vanilla Scum] + Welcome to PYP:Redux! You are Vanilla Scum!
Your team can kill one player per night, a member of your team must PM me who conducts the kill. You may kill in addition to any powers you may end up getting.
Remember you can coordinate your # picks during the draft phase. You team is: Me, You and Him
You can talk in this QT
You win when you outnumber the town, or there is no way for them to stop you from outnumbering them, and no serial killers remain
+ Show Spoiler [Vanilla SK] +You are a Vanilla Serial Killer!
Every night you can choose to kill 1 player. You show up Innocent to alignment checks and are bulletproof at night. Role checks reveal whatever role you picked in your draft, if you don't get a role you show up as Vanilla SK. Roleblocks can break your bulletproof.
You win by killing everyone else and being the last surviving player.

Additional GMarshal rules If you read nothing else, read this
1.) Play nice. This is a refined game, I expect you all to behave like Gentlemen (or Ladies, as the case may be). I will not hesitate to modkill or outright ban you for excessive behavior, this includes abusive language and personal attacks. I don't mind you saying "fuck" every once in a while, I don't want to see "FUCKING DIPISHIT, FUCK MAFIA FUCKING SPAM FUCK FUCK FUCK DICKNIPPLES". I'm tired of that kind of shit. Standard tl behavior rules. No personal attacks. The occasional "you idiot T.T" or such post (especially if warranted) is ok, no more than that though.
2.) Don't spam. This isn't IRC, try to consolidate your posts, its horrible when pages 20-80 are all one line posts between two players yelling at each other
3.) Activity. Yes, the guideline is one post per cycle and a vote, but I'll be disappoined if that is the most you do. I do keep track of activity levels, so if you are really inactive I'll make sure you don't get invited to any of my future invitationals, or get preference in signups. Too inactive and I might blacklist you altogether. Especially this game, which has a *ton* of people who want to play. If go inactive without exceedingly good reasons, I will give others preference over you in future games.
4.) Memes and Gifs. Zero tolerance pretty much, as in elsewhere on tl, I will not allow them. Pictures that are not memes are generally ok. No memes (u mad?) or stupid gifs or meme based image macros. Its stupid and belongs on 4chan.
5.) Have fun. This is a game, the point is to enjoy yourself, so by all means, roleplay to your hearts content, lynch mafia, kill townies, dance and have a ball, there is no point in stressing out over a game.

Maybe I am reading too much into things, but since you can only actually be a mason after the drafting phase this seems redundant. That's not a problem unless I am completely misunderstanding how this works. Can you decide to Mason someone at any time during the game but from then on you cannot change your mind? Basically, how the mason works is this, as soon as the drafting phase ends you need to tell me if you want to be masoned with a townie, or if you want to pick on your own, if you want to pick on your own you make your choice at that time as well. This choice needs to be in within the first 12 hours of day 1.

1.) Night deadlines are going to be an hour earlier than day deadlines to give me an hour to figure out actions, this has the benefit of letting me talk with the witch too, if she asks for the kill list the ability is used up, even if she doesn't choose to save anyone.
2.) correct, its a hidden ability

The real reason I'm asking is I hate not being able to call people dumb when they're dumb. I find it really unbalanced that people are allowed to post stuff that's so stupid that it's borderline trolling, intentionally or not, but I'm not allowed to say that everything they're saying is incredibly dumb and worthless. ie: If I join, can I call people dumb when they're dumb? To clarify, I want to call whatever people are saying dumb, not insult the person directly, though most of the time an indirect insult is taken. As long as you attack arguments, not people, I'm fine with it. Hell, I even understand the occasional frustrated outburst, what I don't want to see is the constant ragging I keep seeing from people.
Original Message From someone: are people that get roleblocked informed of it? what about saves?
Yes and yes!
Can a parity cop check itself?
Yes!
What roles does the Bullet Bill sniff out?
All mafia, CPR doctor, Vigilante, Angry Vigilante, Day Vigilante, and Jack of All Trades Serial Killers use knives, not guns.
If the witch uses her power and gets the list, does she *have* to save someone?
No, but if she doesn't save anyone her power is still used up.

Correct and correct.
How were alignements determined?
I rnged four numbers to be the mafia, and one to be the sk, the other 15 slots were made town. I rolled exactly once for each slot.

Whelp, I want to in regardless of setup. Both set-up's look fun, but I am currently partial to the Nomination Mafia, because I really want to focus on training myself to scum hunt more effectively. Going to with-hold voting for right now until I think about it some more, but i'm leaning towards the Nomination Mafia.
