Problem about EE is just that one friggin diamond means you have literally infinite food/wood/stone etc., so it basically makes ALL the stuff you can do with the other mods useless. No point in investing into an automated woodfarm if you can have the same with 2 clicks. A problem with Tekkit in general is that it's very hard to run a server public imo. Deactivating all the "devastating" stuff (e.g. quarries) is no fun for anyone, so you need to find some kind of middleground. What the servers I consider well run do is one of these two options: A) You only play with people you trust/know, they stick to some basic rules and you only deactivate the REALLY broken stuff (EE and, since it rapes server resources, CC) B) You run some kind of VIP system which activates stuff gradually so you can get to know people first. Since that involves going through pretty much all of the item IDs it is a huge pain to set it up and imo hard to balance. The biggest Tekkit server I'm aware off (SGTekkit) e.g. has EE disabled and allows quarries only for people who are on the server for 2+ weeks. Some examples of rules I'd shamelessly steal from SGTekkit / Minecraft occupies me servers: -Stuff has to make sense. No dirt oilrigs, no quarries cutting off half a mountain or vulcano. -Respect the seed. Meaning you don't use machines to give you a nice clean 64x64 square to build on, you work around the environment whenver possible. e.g. when you're done with a quarry, you can design some cool set of bridges above it. A HUGE problem with Tekkit in general is, that you desperately need hourly/weekly/monthly backups to be on the safe side. For example the "Minecraft occupies me" server ran into a problem with pipes which forced them to restart the server every 20 minutes to keep it playable. In their case they had no proper backup for this issue so they found a fix for the issue, recreated the seed and copied major buildings manually. I wouldn't want to be Admin for that. =P Edit: For the server I'm putting up the host found the issue (most impressive support ever btw) and I'm currently reuploading the map files. I'll post when it works properly, shouldn't take more than an hour.

Server Adress: 94.23.6.16:25576 Dynmap: http://94.23.6.16:17777/ Tekkit launcher: http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/ PS: All that Aeres needs to be happy is the distant possibility to build nukes. =D PPS: YOU NEED THE TEKKIT LAUNCHER TO JOIN. PPPS: I have no idea what this server can take. I'm assuming it's at least 5 people, but I can't guarantee 10. =S

It just doesn't make sense and it ruins alot of other machines etc. How do other large servers deal with quarries? Maybe you could be forced to quarry underground so you do not ruin any of the landscape. Most sensible things so far I've seen are tell people to remove the frame and build something on top of it (so they don't fuck up walking around the map) or building them in large water bodies. Edit: Update on the server; - seems it can handle 5-7 people with only minor hickups. Gonna be up permanently for now. You still need to be added to Members group which Aixler/Me can do, so if you want to join in during the next 8 hours or so you're pretty fucked. =P ... PM one of us and we'll do it when we're back around. There currently is an issue with the ChopTree plugin (the awesome thing which makes entire trees fall down): everytime it gets reloaded via e.g. a /reload or a server restart it stops working. If I reload only the plugin manually it works again. I'll see if I can fix it tomorrow, for now it has to roll without it. Server is restarting every full hour and announces it a minute earlier, should work even if the server crashes. PS: Please replant trees where you nail them unless it's for a reason. Rubbertrees so hard to find atm, might do something about it if people feel the same.

Goal today is to fix that thing and extend the map by ~250 tiles in all directions. For the ChopTree bug, for now I have the "- choptree.command.reload" option activated for all Members. What this means is that after a server restart someone has to type /ct reload and it should work again. I can probably find a more elegant solution but for now the above stuff has higher priority. @Sere: If you're cool with it I'll just keep highjacking your thread for now. I don't really have the server capacity to start something which would warrent it's own thread, if you think Tekkit sounds like a cool idea for your server though I'd love to help out with setting it up however I can. Only condition would be that you use our world file as basis so peoples shit doesn't get blown into oblivion. =D Offer to hop on and play around with it still stands.

Solar arrays work as they should, CT is still being a bitch. I'm too nup to pinpoint the error. =( Server handled up to 10 people just fine, pretty cool how much people seem to be into Tekkit. <3 PS: Vain is a dirty rusher. QQ. =D

Two questions: How do you type in text? It's not enter, apparently. Why does it say that I'm something behind... blah blah... r11? It will display this message 2 more times.

As Aeres said, just ignore the r11 thing, about typing text... since it's a seperate launcher it starts out with the default hotkeys. Just set them up them again properly. Default for chat is "T" I believe.

I'm focussing on Forestry at the moment, here are some step by step pics of me building my base: + Show Spoiler [pictures] + Oh, pictures were taken with temporary low video settings :D The little wooden shack i started in (after i broke down the walls to expand) Expanding my base Adding a cactus farm to waterproof them pipes I have a cool volcano near my base! And some oil! though its all drained as i'm writing this Adding a wheat and tree farm Next up a peat farm for easy fertilizer, and lots of pipes etc to sort, power and craft everything. Setting up a nice 50x50 Quarry nearby (which will serve as my new spot for all the farms when it's done...) All those items from the quarry have to go somewhere Behind the scenes item sorting, very neat and efficient! Dirt goes up and to the left2 , stone under to the middle 3, the rest goes right 2, with marble up and gravel down. Expanding the wheatfarm (3 Farms above eachother and 1 Combine at the bottom) Edit: Added behind the scenes chest sorting

+ Show Spoiler + On another and more important note, and this is partly good and bad, I never expected such a huge turnout from Tekkit-hungry people. Originally this server was just intended for a safe haven for Miarr/Aixler/Myself and none of us assumed that literally everyone we knew (and some we didn't) who plays Minecraft will instantly jump on an opportunity to get in on the fun. This was the good part. The good part is also that I (and Miarr/Aixler who are currently moderating, lucky for us there is not much to do yet in this regard), are absolutely fine being bitches from time to time and making sure things run smoothly. The bad part, and I already told some people ingame, is that the server we initially got was never intended for this kind of load. While it can handle 8-10 people by themselves just fine, as soon as machines and all the fun stuff gets added more than ~4 people cause kinda unfun lag already. This leaves us with the following options: a) Limit slots to 4-5. Full server is full, whoever joins first wins. b) Upgrade the server ourselves. It's currently sponsored by Miarr since she had no fun when I hosted it locally (dat lag lol) and I'm handling the technical shennanigans. c) Hope that Serajai speaks up and is interested enough in Tekkit and hosts something for more people. If he, for whatever reason, decides to keep world saves unreleased I'm fine staying on my little thing with just a few guys. Having mine (and everyone elses stuff) available at a safe place is worth more to me than a big server. I already PM'd the other people I know on TL who have servers sitting at home and none of them responded positively. d) Ask you guys to chip in for a bigger server. Since I'm a cool cat I got pretty solid conditions with the host I'm currently at and am rather sure that I can keep those. Currently the server runs on a lame and boring 1GB machine, with 650Mb already taken before anyone joins, just by the basic tekkit/plugin stuff. From how things work at the moment it seems as if each person (or rather area around each person) takes about 50Mb without any stuff running and rises to 100-150Mb once machines get rolling. With about 20 additional Euro per month I'd be able to upgrade this to 4GB. Assuming I'm not terribly wrong about how much each person takes up that would mean we (yes, we) would be able to have a stable and working ~20 slot server. This would also mean I'd be confident making this server "official" (hint: own thread on TL, more people, more people have fun, more people donate, even bigger server, even bigger evobitch). Since I absolutely dispise any form of buying power in games (some are out there which don't even allow e.g. sprinting for normal members or give multiple /home's for paying "VIPs"), here is what I can offer: -Guaranteed server spots. -A shiny name color which shows everyone how awesum you are. -The warm and fuzzy feeling of contributing to the, imo, only Minecraft which has a chance of staying fun for months and attracting new (and old) people. -The only server I'm aware of who offers to frequently uploads world saves. No matter what happens in the long run, your stuff will be save. On your HD, not on mine or with some random host. ...I'm kinda probing here to find out if and if yes what you guys want to contribute to having fun on a stable server with TL people and the above conditions. Feel free to either post about this here or PM me / Miarr (missefficiency on TL) directly with some rough estimates as to what you're willing to chip in. Around 7 additional euro per month total would net around 1GB in RAM, roughly. tl;dr: Server originally wasn't intended to be something large, we're cool with hosting it on a larger scale and that'd mean we'd like some people to chip in for it. PS: Someone just asked me what I intend to do to avoid the "I built all my shit and now I won't log on anymore"-problem. First of all I believe that Tekkit means you need 4-5x as long as in vanilla for feeling "done". Why? Ever had a reason to build a granary in vanilla? 20 chests with a sorting system for your items? A system which makes sure that the items from THOSE chests move where they belong to, get processed and moved again? Not to mention that you NEED more items - I just used up 2 stacks of Iron and an even larger amount of coal just to get 2 lousy low voltage solar arrays running. Besides that, I'm a huge fanboy of events and additional worlds. One idea from a server I'd like to steal is a PvP world with evreything enabled - and 4x the amount of ores and resources. Other ideas (<3 Aixler) include running stuff like "Race for wool" and similar fun maps on weekends as events. While I personally believe that vanilla Minecraft is a cool but not OMG AWESOME game I also believe that Tekkit is something that would attract the average TLer more than vanilla or MLP. Why? Because it's aimed at people who are into technology and SCIENCE. And MAKING IT WORK, BITCHES. Playing with Lego is kinda cool, playing with Lego which moves and does shit on it's own is friggin' awesome.

That being said I'm still trying to get my server back up but I ran into some major issues when trying to swap it from my current Windows 7 pc to one of my other pcs running Windows XP. I'm sorry for the lack of updates but there's not all that much to say at the moment. Between me being tied up with IRL things and having complications migrating the server to different hardware it's kind of a "as soon as I have time" thing at the moment. It's clear the generic Minecraft experience just isn't very enjoyable for most players these days, evidenced by the fact that this server got less than 10% of the traffic as my previous server did, even though this one had about twice as many features/things to do. Simply put most people from the old server just don't want to play Minecraft anymore. Tekkit is interesting and changes the game so radically that I can see a lot of old players returning since it's almost like a new game. That being said I would recommend letting things play out on your current hardware for a week or two. Based on personal experience traffic dies down rather drastically after the first 1-2 weeks and investing in better hardware now would likely be a bad move (as I learned with my old server). If people continue playing it and whatnot... I would have no problem replacing my 1.2 RPG world with Tekkit instead (as the RPG world has become a complete pain in the ass with the recent modding drama and I can't really even work on it anymore until Spout comes out with their launcher). I really think you should give it a week or so, though, as I think the number of players interested will die down considerably.

Btw, is there any way to effectively shield one of those? In creative mode even a triple thick obsidian bunker would leak out some of the explosion.

It's kinda the mod I want to look into next myself. So much awesome stuff you can do with it. =S I'm currently not at home and not 100% sure what your minecraft ID is so I can't add you from here. If you PM me I can add you this evening, otherwise you can try Aixler who could be around right now. It's basically a similar greylist as on seres server, just needs a Mod/Admin to promote you. For nukes and reactors, there are reinforced glass and erh... brick (?) blocks in there which withstand harder explosions than obsidian. afaik you can build with them in a way that completely contains a reactor under your base that goes boom. =D PS: Do we have anyone here on TL who played around with custom terrain generators or more specifically this one?

I'm working on some more automation for my farms, here is what i came up with: Tree farm, wheat farm, peat farm. Humus goes into the tree farm, sand comes out, with saplings & wood. Bog Earth goes into the peat farm, dirt come out, with peat. Wheat farm just produces seeds & wheat. The seeds & wheat go into a Moistener (with water) and produce 1 Mulch for every wheat, 1 Mycelium for every seed. The Mulch is then used in a Carpenter to make 8 Bog Earth with 8 dirt, or 9 Humus with 4 sand & 4 dirt. Tada! thus is complete, the circle of self sufficient farms! So to make it automatic the input needs to be connected to the output and the power needs to be automated. When something comes out, like dirt or sand, they go into a chest (used to keep a stash and regulate item flow), from the chest through a redstone transport pipe into the Carpenter to make mulch. The redstone signal from the pipe will then send something like Humus or Bog Earth back into the farm. The chests are used to prevent overflowing, add a regulated item flow, and keep a stack of items to work with. As for power, i was thinking of either using electrical engines with a IC power network (or solar array + batbox), making a giant looping biomass pipe network with biogas engines, or using peat engines. As for peat engines, a full stack burns for 4h+, and every peat has a 67% chance to make ash (used for fertilizer). So pulling the ash out, through a redstone pipe, sending a signal to pull out 3 peat, which have a 67% chance to end up in the engine (by using some clever piping), would make it self sufficient. This basic concept should be easily expanded to include all farms, and multiple of those if wanted. So much time spent on my factory, and yet such a little percentage of total tekkit mods touched, awesome!
