Unusual blog of me. As I nowadays only post game dev blogs about my game but today is different.
Today after spending 16 hours onto programming my game I went to sleep and immediately 30 min after I went into sleep I got a call by my brother saying: "My stuff has been stolen! Someone broke in." I didn't knew if he meant his apartment or his office. Both his apartment and office reside in Rotterdam (not the caster but the place for those ignorant lol ).
I was like: "What? What got stolen?" I found out it was his office building that got broken in which was supposed to have camera's but apparently they don't work anymore... (so much for that). The building is a 6 floor building with multiple companies residing there. My brother's company is at the 5th floor.
Anyways he then proceeded to say that my creditcard got stolen as well (actually his wallet) and his computer. My brother has an IT company so obviously there are computers involved.
I'm still wondering how he could have left his wallet at the office and not notice this for a full night or perhaps he knew but thought "wth I'll get it back tommorow".
So I had to call the bank and block my creditcard which for so called bank support was pretty bad. I had to wait 25-30 min or so in the morning at 9 am before getting through. I got the creditcard blocked and requested a new one.
Then my brother said that the only things which were stolen from his office were an iPad 1, a laptop and his wallet with my creditcard in it which were all in his room.
The other rooms had a 2k euro iMAC and other equally expensive stuff which didn't got stolen. I was confused but apparently the thief(s) didn't know the value of the hardware that was lying there since the stuff that got stolen from my brother's office were in total less than 1k I think. Everything is insured so there's nothing to worry about for expenses (I think).
My brother and his colleague then moved all the hardware home until the office has new locks which is tomorrow / monday. Right now you can just enter the office at night so my brother wanted to be careful.
Apparently we weren't the only ones that got robbed. And now that I think about it, the office is at the 5th floor of a 6 floor building and so they probably didn't have much time to get everything from everyone so my brother's office was probably one of the last ones in getting broken in.
I'm happy my brother is safe (hope he doesn't read this lol). Not at the least surprised about the robbery though. Depressing times asks for depressing measures I guess from people.
Luckily my brother uses GitHub and saves all his backup there for his projects so he didn't lose his data for work at all (maybe some porn I think xD). The company my brother is working together with has a big iOS project and upon hearing this robbery immediately freaked out and offered to buy new hardware so my brother can continue his work asap since he was close to finishing the project. Obviously my brother isn't going to ignore this and is going to get a new Macbook with an iPad 3 lol.
Just hoping that there won't be more robberies at that place. My brother is already contemplating whether or not he should move his office to another building with better security. It's not like the place he's renting is cheap. He and I guess the other companies expected at least some kind of camera security.

confused. why did your brother have your credit card, in his wallet, at his office in the first place? maybe you were a business partner and he was using a business credit card that was in your name?

He uses my creditcard to buy stuff for me and him. He doesn't own a creditcard himself (in Holland not a lot of people I know have creditcards).
As for the question why he had his wallet at his office is a mystery as well. I think he just forgot his wallet since he left the office at 11 pm and was tired.
I just found out that the iPad has requested a wipe at 9AM (already been stolen). It had the Find Iphone app so no tracking the iPad.
If the thief uses the creditcard he's already busted so I hope he uses the creditcard which is the only way to track him now. Although nowadays you still need to enter a 4 digit code before you're able to use the creditcard.

That is probably the most random post I've seen here in weeks.
Do you always just randomly tell people to stay safe? Just wondering.

lol what. I find it strange why they would rob the top of the building first... or that they had enough time to go from the ground up all the way to the 5th floor. You think someone would have heard them :/

@dreamchaser Don't know but seeing he's Dutch it could possibly be because of that.
@GenesisX They had at least the whole night to grab everything (about 7 hours) I think. My brother is always the last one to leave the building. He always works till late night (11-12 pm) before leaving. My brother always takes the elevator so it's safe to assume they went with the stairs and then you wouldn't notice them at all but they could notice you using the elevator. The elevator makes a loud noise so you can actually hear it's being used from within the offices.

ic... possible that the robbers are from another office because they knew the exact specifications of the building?! /endconspiracytheory

Not exactly easy to get away quickly with an iMac. If someone sees you walking around with one in the middle of the night that's also going to look pretty suspicious. Laptop and iPad are both light and easily concealed.

I think you'd benefit by respecting others more. Karma's a bitch.

This reeks of an inside job

I'm not here to go Columbo on the thiefs. We're going to get everything refunded and no one got hurt which is more important.
@theToast Yeah I guess you're right.
@AcrossFiveJulys What do you mean with that? I can't seem to get where I gave of the impression I'm not respecting others more.
