While this thread is labeled "DotA2", this is in fact a community thread first. Many of the users in the TL LoL subforum have been playing as friends for over a year now, so it makes logical sense that they would want to play other games together. Do not compare DotA2 to LoL, you will get banned. TL LoL veterans know what is expected. Newcomers be warned. gl hf

At least in pub games you should almost always ward the enemy pull, otherwise you essentially lose your long lane. People just don't know about it or are greedy and think saving money on wards for the pull and the rune is worth it. Typical pub mentality. As starting items one person should buy wards and another buy a courier in every game. From my experience people are just stupid or greedy when it comes to warding. We haven't even seen the worst of it yet, once lycan/sylla are released we'll have pubs complaining the entire early game about how you need to gank them in the jungle, yet they will refuse to actually put an aggressive ward down so that you can reliably gank them.

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=298363¤tpage=8#141 And I have a couple questions if anyone has a chance to answer them 1) In what situations do you get a bottle (only for mid?) or a magic wand? I've found the HP/mana restore from the wand rather underwhelming, but maybe I'm expecting too much from an item that's so cheap and easy to build. I'm also only playing against bots right now, and the bots don't seem to use their abilities very often, so that might be contributing. 2) If you do get a bottle/magic wand, are they purely for sustain during early laning? so should i not feel bad about moving them to the stash when i start buying components for bigger items (i think my inventory might be filling up more quickly than it should because i've been getting things like null talisman and other not as big items like cloak/null talisman/force staff)? 3) What's the rationale for blink dagger instead of force staff on initiators? I see that blink dagger has much more range, but it's hard for me to imagine needing the extra range instead of the flexibility of force staff (maybe just because LoL has gotten me used to the smaller range of flash). 4) The 30s guide suggests blink dagger and BKB on Lion, and I don't see the rationale for that. I see lion as like a cho'gath (CC and a big ult nuke) but with enough range to stay fairly safe, so i don't see how a blink and magic immunity play into that role. but now that i think about it, lion's spells do seem shorter range than a typical dota2 hero...

2. bottle yes, magic wand no. null talisman is essentially a really big ironwood branch for int - i would probably rather have bottle / wand than a null talisman haha you can sell bottle when you start picking up your bigger items and are hurting for space, but i very rarely see chinese pros sell their wand until very late - they utilize the active so very well and it DOES make a difference, even lategame. 3. that "much more range" is the difference between an initiation that the enemy cannot possibly see and prepare for out of reaction and one that is easily visible - there are also ledges, walls etc that cannot be force staffed cleanly over but can be easily blinked over 4. lion does not have HP sustain (and most lions do not get drain at all early) he has a ranged nuke and much more instantaneous cc from a range, but is usually not in a position to use this cc as any enemy would be afraid of lion's nuke and point and click CC and AoE knockup - as someone with large power who once in position can secure a kill through a mix of CC and damage, the positioning power that blink offers is necessary

Just wait until you are 5 man black holed from outside your vision range with 0 time to react - then you will understand (nothing like that in LoL, think amumu being able to ulti you without landing his toss, only it lasts 4 seconds.) Wand is not for sustain - use it when you are escaping a gank, or when you need the extra mana to get the one last stun/blink to secure a kill/escape. EDIT: although wand is used for sustain vs batrider

With regard to Lion, the fact that he has 2 reliable point-and-click CCs makes him an extremely strong ganker with Blink Dagger--something that Cho'gath is much less reliable at because he needs setup for his CC to land reliably in ganking scenarios (and the ability to instantly jump into a gank from outside of vision has very few analogues in LoL). Lion getting a Blink Dagger puts immense pressure on the sidelanes because of the ability for him to Blink in from out of vision, and W->Q->R for a kill before you can do anything about it. After Blink I don't like BKB so much on Lion, though it can be situationally useful. Team utility items like Janggo, Force Staff, and Sheepstick have more effectiveness, IMO.
