They do it because that is how they believe things will get done. Whether you agree with them or not it makes sense.

well, none of the bosses majored whatever sociology fields would make one sensitive to getting called or seeing/hearing someone get called a faggot, so they are safe.

I dont know. Calling people the n-word gets you removed from EG. Calling people fags is ok though?

Also re: "faggot", Garfield start with Idra on this front. He uses it a hell of a lot more than any other progamer I can think of.

Orb has no one to blame but Orb.

This is so fucking stupid. Sure, orb made a mistake and he should've just apologized even if he didn't say this; that would've ended this controversy way long ago. You can use the n-word without being racist, and you can use "faggot" without being homophobic. It's all how you interpret it, and if it's not meant to offend homosexual people or black people then it isn't. You shouldn't assume such things.
For the record, I do want to point out that I don't think Orb is "a racist." As mentioned above, I think that to make such a claim would be to misunderstand the nature of contemporary racism. This, of course, does not lessen the severity of his actions, or the extent to which they are unacceptable and inexcusable, but it's still an important distinction to make.
I don't even understand what you're trying to say here. You release him, not because he's a racist, but because of his actions? People are making this blown way out of proportion and I don't feel orb should have this type of punishment. Maybe have him apologize and put him on a week break, but absolutely releasing him for saying a word that may offend somebody. Because god forbid we offend someone. It's not even like it was under your supervision or on the EG Master Cup, it was on his own stream where he can say what he wants. It's his content.

At pretty much any other job you can't get fired for BMing someone in a video game on your own free time. because at any other job, BM'ing people in game is completely irrelevant to your job. In this case it would be like going into the store you work at, on your day off and being a dick to customers. You would get fired for that.

Based on the limited information I have on this subject, which is that this happened before he was contracted, I don't agree with the punishment, but I do understand the reasoning for it.

this all seems a bit harsh on Orb i think hes a great caster, yes he said some awful things no need to fuck his shit up tho grow up EG

He could have simply admitted his faults and issue a formal apology for his past behavior. Not claim that it was someone else, or that he was under the influence or that it was a non issue.
Shitty excuses don't fly.

if a pizza guy was out calling ppl n word on the street, then ppl complained to the employer " hey man I'm not coming back to your shop if you gonna hire racist" pretty sure the guy would be fired. when the guy is in the wrong and the fans and supporters dont' forgive him then he will be terminated in any business. those are potential customers who will forever not respect you for letting a racist stay in the company. They will view you as a racist company, and everyone who see's the outcome will follow the same steps.
Even if orb isn't racist, he is doing something 10-12 yr old in halo and counter strike doing calling ppl n word. he need to grow up man. Not like it the end of orb forever perhaps people will forgive him but he gonna have to start over now.
Lets be real here, orb didn't even man up , he tried to lie at first and made it worse. which shows how can I trust orb isn't really racist and just saying sorry and i'm not racist just to keep his fans?

IdrA earns EG money. Fans choose to be willfully ignorant about someone they idolise as opposed to Orb who they envy more than idolise for being good enough to cast top level games.
|
haah who contacted their sponsors to complained?
|
I am pleased Alex, I have contacted all your sponsors by email to tell them how well you run EG.

I think that was very well thought out, and written fairly. I don't know what Orb did, but I hope he comes back in a better image in the future.

That is the part I find most deplorable about this that someone would intentionally try to damage the position of someone who has helped the community. While what orb did certainly was juvenile it did not cause any damage to anyone. To the person on reddit who caused this I can only say that what you did is an action which has caused nothing but damage to people. What may have offended you has caused offense to many others and has led to the removal of a hard-working man from his position.
Was it worth it?
Yes, absolutely.

Agree 100%. Would like to hear a response from Alex Garfield.

Thank you for the excellent response. I can say that I'm extremely proud to be a Starcraft, and in particular, EG afficionado.

People claiming this is an overreaction live in a dream world. If we wan't to be seen as anything more than a niche community then shit like this can't be allowed to exist. This was handled perfectly by EG (except for maybe doing a little more homework beforehand next time) kudos to them.
