I usually write stuff in the strategy forum but alas, I have recently moved to Australia so I don’t have access to Starcraft anymore which makes it a lot harder to keep up with meta game, skill and be able to double check timings.
I’m having a great time here in Melbourne and I’m soon starting work(I’m here on a working holiday visa), but I’ve felt like it would be fun to write something during the occasional downtime. I actually ended up writing a guide to writing guides, however now I need something new and the first thing that hit me was: Learning.
Learning seems like both an interesting and useful subject to study but since it’s a rather big subject I thought it would be best to divide it into to a series of articles and then compile them to a compendium at the end(if I all goes well I finish them ofc).
So why write about it? Well first of all I think writing a guide or article forces you too look up stuff and get your facts straight. It also is a great way to learn for me, the writer, while letting me share it with other people. I chose learning specifically because I like to learn stuff, e.g. playing the piano, new languages, starcraft and so on, there is just so much to learn. However I always end up thinking, “I’m spending so much time doing this, I hope I’m doing it efficiently”.
There are many questions to answer that I hope to learn myself while writing about it, a few examples:
- Do I learn best by reading, listening or seeing and how do I find out which one is my type?
- How important is to stay hydrated for your focus?
- Why do I get demotivated and how do I combat it?
- I’ve got limited time(school, work, etc.), how can use my knowledge of focus, memory, motivation etc. to more efficiently learn new skills?
This is what I got so far for my first article which will give an introduction and overview of the subject:
The Art of Learning Part I: An Introduction
- Table of contents
Introduction
Purpose
Subject overview
- Motivation and Attitude
Focus and Practice
Memory
Goals and Time Management
Effective Learning
Applications
Each subject is planned to be a separate article e.g. “The Art of Learning Part III: Memory”. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, e.g. if you think a certain subject is missing or if I should fuse some of them together, or have them in a different order. You are also welcome to say if it’s not a good idea but I’m probably going to write it anyway!
