I've had some success with it at diamond level, but I'm not sure if thats because they have no idea how to handle it or if its really viable.Any thoughts? I'm not david, but am another Diamond Zerg I toyed around with this a lot, even so far as to making a really smooth build for it. + Show Spoiler [Proxy Hatch Roach build] + 9 OL Send proxy drone with ~12th drone (depends on map) 14 pool 15 ol (save larvae!) 15 queen (do NOT inject with first 2x cycles if proxy is happening) 6x lings 20 PROXY HATCH ( ~3:30 ) [drones] @4:15 roach warren & extractor @~4:40 hatchery at our natural @5:10 proxy hatch finishes!
I loved the build and had some success with it, but I basically concluded it was completely defendable by a Protoss that knows what he is doing:
When a protoss reacted appropriately, didn't panic and kept building his tech up and chronoboosting probes as he should, at best I ended up equal to him (sometimes I was behind). The 6 zergling proxy defense was my attempted solution to the problem whereby protoss could defend this quite easily, but I found, again, that protoss who knew what they were doing could deflect this (protoss should be properly walled off with a hold position probe to block your lings until zealot arrives). So I don't do it anymore :[ In my opinion I believe Protoss can deflect this style proxy hatch and come out ahead if they know what they are doing, which makes this a dead strategy to me (even if it works vs most protoss right now). I could try and "hide" the hatchery (I was building it in what I considered to be the best possible position, rather than a "hidden" position), but then I am basically conceding the strategy is non-viable and I am relying on my protoss opponent being bad and not noticing the missing drone or finding the hatchery. There may be merit to "evo chamber blocking" his nexus, or a proxy hatch OUTSIDE of his base, but I don't know about that. My 2 cents EDIT: I might shut up. People probably want the opinion from someone that actually knows what they are talking about (i.e. probably not me)

I also like the MU spec episode, specifically looking at the variations of plays based on your reactions of your opponents.
