So I've just recently gotten into Gold League, but somehow I doubt that's going to stick. I used to actually be pretty decent, I was finally getting my Macro and my Mechanics to a level where strategy would actually be a factor in whether or not I could win.
Not anymore.
Now I'm losing to 4-gates, or vs. scouted all marine army comps, or I'll lose a ZvZ because I don't see a Baneling walk into my main. My play is just extremely sloppy, moreso than it's ever been before. I really don't understand.
The only reason I can see for it is that I stopped playing for about a week. Does one single week really make that much difference? Apparently it does. I'm playing slower and less effectively than I did back in the days when I was actually IN bronze league. I'm losing to unit comps that I scout because I completely mess up my unit control and I don't spend my money as well as I could.
The worst part is, just 8 days ago I played three of the best games I've EVER played. My macro was insane, my mechanics were spot on, I engaged perfectly; and now all of a sudden I can't even execute a simple 13/13 opener without forgetting to get speed every time.
I honestly don't understand it at all, how can such a short time make THAT much difference?
I'm just incredibly frustrated and confused right now, because I KNOW I can play at a higher level than I am, I'm just not for whatever reason.
This sucks.

I think what helped me the most is the philosophy of playing to learn, rather than to win. If you're not at your correct level the ladder will eventually correct it. Don't be scared to be demoted, don't be scared to play it's just a game. Believe in your play through practice, it sounds like you lack confidence. If you set yourself up for failure and call yourself terrible you probably will forget basic stuff like getting speed.

I was once in gold and then dropped down to bronze out of the blue, I kept losing games to players who I thought were not as good as me. Emotionally, I lost a lot of confidence as I lost games. However, I did quit playing the game everyday for about a month, to go out more and go to college parties( i stopped doing that, another story lol) Anyway i worked my way back up to gold and eventually platnium, by doing a few things. Firstly watching the pros, and picking a style, and builds that I wanted to learn. Secondly, played the game and focused on mechanics of marco. Games that I won I hyped up for myself, games that I lost, I reviewed and learned And I guess another big thing is, if you are having fun, you are gonna perform better, its like real life. If you are working at a job you hate, you don't have much incentive to put your best effort in. So with that in mind, make sure you like what your doing in SC 2 and have fun, and you will play your best..This worked for me, and my play and confidence improved greatly.
Some tips to keep in mind: 1. Don't worry about who you are playing, just go in and be confident. 2. Have a plan during the loading screen, example I am playing a terran player, so i am going to do this safe opener vs them. This will help you remain confident in what you are doing. 3. Review your losses, and get excited about your wins. 4. Have fun, when I am making horrible mistakes, or just playing bad in general, I am not having fun, not all of us are able to use our frustration and turn it into motivation to get better. 5. Take a break if you feel like your playing sloppy and losing a lot, I myself quit if I lose 3 games in a row where i felt like I had sloppy play.

My advice for you would be to be aware. Just be aware of what is going on in the game. You know what is coming, why don't you find ways to stop it?
