This event was never meant to be a fair tournament, but a shameless act of self promotion and monetary gain. I know, right? I was deeply frustrated with the issue with the VIP pass, mostly because it looked like they didn't even try. It was one thing to try and fail, but a whole other thing for them not to try at all to fulfill what they promised. No one talked to us, no one told us what was happening, and when we asked the staff what was going on they said they didn't know ('we have to ask the person-in-charge first'). They just handed over the goody bag then left us for the day. We were promised a meet-and-greet with the players, an autograph signing session, and pictures with them. Nothing ever materialized and we never got our money back.
I feel sorry for all the non-AZK people who got associated with this (IPL, Tastosis, thegunrun, the invitees, Rachel and Allyn, etc), and I feel pretty bad as a Filipino that all this happened on this event. It's gonna take a while to get people to start being confident in holding an event in Manila ever again, but I hope it's not entirely impossible.

legit blog. You should partner with ign next time

Well this will set Aussies back quite a bit....oh dang looks like I'll never get drafted

How shitty - I guess the Koreans who joined AZK will probably only be there for 3 months and only joined for flight to Manila then. This is disgusting, I don't know what is going through these guy's heads. Need to gtfo our scene.

Good man Derek - this Gus fella needs to harden up with a cup of concrete. At least be upfront about things eh... if he doesn't want to send a second Aussie player, then don't. Not hard really.
And the whole deal about Violet is so confusing. Violet has no mention of him playing for AZK on his stream or anywhere. They (Team AZK) are seriously wrecking Esports.

Pretty much sullied their name so much so that no one will take them seriously in future Feel bad for the parties who've had to deal with them and IPL who tried to help them grow but received a bit of backlash since their brandname was plastered over everything.

Though the testimonials about AZK have been one sided, it doesn't seem that this Gus character is coming out with any public discretion.
I feel sorry for you and all the shit you had to deal with when negotiating and planning this clusterfuck event where the production value really did seem pathetic. I mean why would they use someone like CheekyDuck to cast? Did they even find any decent qualifications for it (no offence to them but when you contrast them with Tastosis there's no excuse to have such 2nd rate casting).
Thanks for enlightening and I hope the SEA community does recover quickly from this as there are some great players in that area, but apparently work ethics aren't as apparent. Excuse me? CheekyDuck/Livibee were some of the best amateur casters I've heard. Apart from the "right about now" and a few analytical errors (Gold minerals on shakuras??), they were pretty on the ball. A caster from GSL whose name shall not be mentioned was a lot worse than these two when he began, and one could argue, is still terrible.

This is a horrible scandal...not quite as devastating as the match-fixing scandal, but this some pretty disgusting corruption and abuse of power. Not only cancelling flights, stacking the qualifiers (both by running unpublicized team qualifiers and stacking non-AZK players like MC and MKP together in groups so AZK players would advance), pocketing prizemoney and scamming players. Terrible.
Thank for you all of your efforts, though, hosting the Australian qualifiers and vouching for the players.

Hey Dox, just want to thank you for the hard work you put in for the Aussie qualifiers. I tuned in on quite a few nights and it was really enjoyable to watch and see some Aussie players on the scene =]
Keep up the good work!

This may be feeding the troll but what the hell...
Don't turn this into a race issue. I'm Filipino and pretty disgusted and embarassed by everything about this. That said, there are a lot of people here that could have definitely done a better job and it was unfortunate that this event wasn't handled by them.
Don't generalize when you don't know what you're talking about, it only makes you look stupid.
On topic: Thanks Dox for this info. Hopefully the SEA scene can bounce back from this and the people (person?) responsible for this whole fiasco can be held accountable.

Wow, this post makes me so angry what a piece of shit seriously. i don't care if i get banned for language (i don't know if there's such a rule) but seriously this "Gus" guy sounds like a huge fucking douchebag. I feel very sorry for the players who recently got picked up by AZK, especially the korean players and clan Lof. Now I understand what the whole AZKviolet thing was about... I really hope something is done about this guy.
|
What a surprise. I feel sad for the players, especially the Koreans who switched to AZK. Not to mention IGN, the casters and other players who attended the event. Hopefully they'll get some of the prize money at least..
|
Horrible truly horrible, on the bright side the scum won't be doing anything much after showing their true colours.
Keep up the good work Dox don't let this stop you be a wizard of esports!

Thanks for dropping some truth on all this. It's all really fucked up.

Wow, i didn't even realize there were qualifiers in Australia for this.If there were qualis for Aus, then shouldn't there be qualis for other countries in SEA as well? I initially thought the players were arbitrarily 'invited'.
It seems like AZK was/is being unprofessional and selfish but i wouldn't go out to say that they are killing e-sports? Poor Koreans though. I don't know what's gonna happen to them when they're stuck with AZK contractually. Could so see the team getting blacklisted and barred from future SEA events. =\
