The Hiya thing...it's like when MJ switched over to Baseball, or Golf. I mean, you watched, but it just wasn't the same. The game was different, the man was the same, but it was that one man, in that one game that made you fall in love (no homo) in tandem. When one part of the equation is gone you can still care about what that person meant and wish them well, but it will never be the same and eventually they'll fade from prominence in your life and effectively be (as Leg so bluntly put it) be dead to you. I mean, how often to people talk about MJ's Baseball career? They remember him as the Basketball legend, because that's where he made the magic happen for those fans. It's not that they aren't fans of MJ just because he switched and they didn't like it, they're not fans because the magic was gone.
I can understand the sentiment. For me I don't wish ill on July or Nada or Boxer, but I just don't care about anything they're doing really since they switched. The magic was in those individuals playing that certain game. Now, there are players I care about as much as I did those three in SC2, but they're new because the combination is right.
As far as Hiya is concerned I'll ever want BW to live on, but as has been previously stated maybe he'll have the personality for it. Maybe he'll make me fall in love with that instant all over again by playing SC2. But I already love him where he is and as a fan it's a hard thing to gamble on when you're thinking about where you want them.
Thrilled that Shine and Ruby as staying on, but I just wish Hiya would too. Here's to hoping ^_^

the fact that you know that is enough to say you're a bigger fan than me.
but seriously going from "OMG THE BEST" to "meh I don't care" is fucking weird.

But what is it with all the hate that Starcraft 2 gets from all of the BW fans???
Yes, the players in BW had to have 300 + APM, but that was a necessity, due to a sloppy interface/AI pathing system, while it showed great skill and definitely increased the skill ceiling, it certainly doesnt make the game all that more entertaining to watch (strictly my opinion there, you cant "see" them performing all of the tedious macro/pathing executions)
Yes, BW was/is/will always be a fucking LEGEND, AMAZING games with AMAZING players....But its old....Very very old.
SC2 has an immediate spectator advantage, the graphics are gorgeous, and its able to be filmed in full HD. The computers they play BW on is equivalent to making toast with the exhaust of a launching rocket ship, the game is just straight out old and outdated graphically.
BW is almost strictly in Korea, and Korea was always the most dominate by a landslide, which is cool and everything, but seeing the same names...same faces....same strategies...That have been executed for years...come on, eventually old has to give way for new in that regard. SC2 is all over the world, and because it is such a new game, the potential is virtually unlimited, considering it will change drastically with every new expansion, we have YEARS AND YEARS of new and exciting faces and strategy :D :D How could any true SC fan NOT be stoked over that???
And BW is just, kind of limping along at this point, from a business standpoint it completely makes sense, sponsors are seeing the massive potential for growth in SC2, and are wanting to invest in something that is up and coming, not something that will eventually be a ghost of the past, its all about the money, and while there is still formidable amounts of money for the tip...tip...tip top players in BW, I cant see any new comers going to the scene, and neither do the sponsors, its just financially unsound to invest in BW when you can invest in something that is catching the E-Sports scene on fire worldwide.
This is ALL just my opinion, please dont flame me, but this is how I see it, and just answer me, what is with all of the animosity towards SC2 from BW fans???
I am sorry if this made anyone mad by the way.
Cs 1.6 is a very old game and yet people love it why ???

I am sorry if this made anyone mad by the way. Most BW fans don't hate SC2, they just don't care. As for most of your points, especially the highlighted bits, they're simply not true. If you can't see why they aren't true, then you probably don't understand the game or the scene well enough.

That didnt really answer my question at all, people will always love the classics, I will always like BW, but what your saying in comparison to my question is something akin to..
"People still still like CS even though its old, and they also despise MW2 or COD or (insert any modern competitive RTS lmfao)"
I just asked why the hatred from BW fans to SC2.

I appreciated July's plays in BW but that's about it, i'm not his fan as a person (nothing against him really, just not a fan) ... I never said his opinion was invalid ,I don't understand the extreme change in how one person can view another. one day its I like this guy,the next you're dead to me...thats what ticks me off. how is that a change of view on the person? he doesnt care about the person outside of broodwar now so if they switch 2 SC2 he just doesnt watch them or whatsoever.... the whole time i read t his thread i ask myself if you guys just dont want 2 understand it. he doesnt hate hiya and no he doesnt want him dead he just doesnt give a shit about SC2 so if hiya switches he is "dead" he is not watching him anymore. and yes i wouldnt watch Jaedong play some LoL shit or even SC2. Iam fan of him because of what he does in SC1 not in some other game i dont like. you are only a fan of what jaedong does in BW,not of him. I'm not arguing this anymore, its a complete derail,if you want to continue take it to PMs. i became a fan of him because of BW. and i might follow some stuff outside of the game if he switches. but i wont watch a game i fucking dont like just because he is playing. u would eat some tiger balls just because jaedong likes them or what? are tiger balls good? i dont like them. but since jaedong likes them i have 2 eat them so i can be his fan right?
I dont think one person in this thread on any side said you have to like something just because someone your a fan of someone does. BR even said hate the game not the player. In this case i guess its hate tiger balls?... and not the player. I dont even know how you got to this point.
No one said if hiya did sc2 full time that you had to enjoy sc2.... just like if he started playing a FPS full time like COD you dont have to enjoy it. confusing.
At any rate i think its awesome a pro-gamer would choose to be a cop, especially if its a traffic cop. Thinking about it, that micro has to have some good real-life applications! :D And why not micro traffic.

Perhaps its biased on having watched BW for so long but I personally find it harder to watch SC2 especially when units are clumped together, in BW it's easier in general to count the amount of units and see then if the opposite player manages to hold you would think his strong micro probably contributed to it. In SC2 battles IMO it's more difficult to see.
But the thing that really kept me interested in BW is the level of execution the players had. Again its just my opinion but as a D level player, the things pros were able to do were things I could NEVER do even if I played the game for another 4-5 years. In SC2, while I will not be able to execute as well as them, it didn't feel like I could NEVER do those stuffs but just not do it as effectively.
I'm not sure if others feel the same way, but I guess BW being a classic, and perhaps the simplified mechanics in SC2 made people feel it is not as well done hence the animosity. Also, TL before SC2 was mainly a BW site that covered korean BW scene, so IMO its understandable that when a lot of new members came, there was some misinformed ideas about BW being just all mechanics without strategy and old graphics that really angered BW fans.

Because we have people like you telling us that the game we love is limping and its graphics suck (which is really unrelated to the thread by the way). Sorry for writing such a short answer, but it's as simple as that.
I don't have a natural animosity against SC2 players, but after your post that was totally out of topic, only to tell us our game is outdated, your only argument being that it's "old, very very old", I do have animosity against you.
Obviously, when some people from SC2 who didn't know Brood War much if at all, and are curious about it we are more than glad to welcome them : http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=280281

I find it amusing that neither SKT nor Khan would pick up Shine, even though they both wanted zergs.
If you don't find a team, then farewell Shine, slayer of Taekbang. I'm not all too sorry to see you go ^^

This is the biggest reason for the us vs them mentality a lot of us here on the BW forum have.
It's hard to believe, but not that long ago TL was 95% about BW with a tiny SC2 section where people talked about when the beta might come out. Now it's 95% SC2 with a tiny BW section where people bash SC2 out of spite, engage in flamewars with SC2 people who think it's a good idea to come in and tell us that it's about time our favorite players all switched to SC2, and a tiny tiny bit of discussion about the game and upcoming proleague season
On topic: I hope someone picks up all the guys who want to continue. I'd LOVE to have Hiya on Khan, but I doubt Samsung will pay him.

Until they'd officially announced the formation of the Dream Team, all we'd heard throughout the off-season were negative rumours. Naturally this put off a lot of BW fans.
