Hello everyone, I'm the Vocal Terrorist, Jesse Raen. For the past eight years I've been a ring announcer and part-time commentator for a UK based wrestling company, FutureShock Wrestling. More recently I've been working again as a ring announcer/manager/commentator for another UK based promotion, the XWA.
For the past year, ever since Razer's King of the Beta tournament (wonderfully casted by Day9), I've been hooked on Starcraft 2. At the urging of my fiancee, who wanted to understand my love for the game better, I created a youtube channel under the name VocTer Gaming (also originally intending to run a Game of the Month series alongside it that never panned out) which can be found at www.youtube.com/user/VocTerGaming
For over a month now, Tues-Fri every week I've been commentating replays found on SC2rep.com, and trying to encourage people to send me their own replays. As it is I've found the entire process incredibly enjoyable, and would potentially like to make the switch to becoming a respectable caster within the pro scene. But what I need now is feedback and suggestions from fans and people more knowledgeable than I. Please come down to the channel, check it out, and give me your honest criticisms. Let me know what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong.
I intend to use this blog to detail the differences between the two styles of announcing, which I hope will interest at least a small part of this wonderful community.

Always great to see new commentators! I'll try to check out your stuff before the end of the day.

Good luck! Looking forwards to seeing some of your material

Yeah he could actually get sued for that. Kinda sucks.

Writing these as I watch episode 21, some will be very nitpicky, some will be hopefully useful.
good start, giving some background and some recent results for the two players while there's not much else to talk about. GSL casters could learn a lot from you. all of them.
i like how you said that you think mech will be the natural evolution of the game. a bit of personal opinion, i welcome it.
i like how you are comparing the korean tvp style to the european style. a little bit more discussion of the players' builds and decisions would be nice. just as i typed this you started dicussing their builds.
now you are talking about different styles that work or may not work on the map, good job
now at the battle at nani's 3rd. good commentary so far.
you seem to have the production tab up the whole time. while i think the production tab is the most important, i think it's good to change to the units tab once in a while just to get a count of workers and army composition.
your observing seems good enough, i wouldnt know how to improve it much other than being more active? but that can be annoying if you overdo it.
note that zealots are as fast as stalkers when they have charge
moebius gives 75 starting, 25 additional (you said they pop out w/ 25)
overall good commentary! good luck in the future
edit: i should mention that i stopped writing things down in part 2, i was getting sleepy, need a nap

Thanks for the reply mjf, and everyone else. It's great to have such encouragement. And yeah, I just started learning the hotkeys for Unit tab and the like, so will be using that much more often.
I'll admit to being worried when I posted this, wasn't sure what kind of response I was going to get but this is so heartening already. Hopefully when I get good enough I can cover some UK or online tournaments for you guys. Btw, feel free to suggest games for me to cast, as right now I pretty much just grab whatever looks popular on SC2rep.com
Going to be doing the IEM finals this week, which I know a lot of you will have seen but I haven't had a chance to watch them yet, so it's some personal indulgence on my part :D

I think you could talk a bit faster, and take shorter breaks between talking.

the nickname vocal terrorist is really good. howd you come up with it?

Just some quick points/constructive criticism.
-Video quality needs to be higher and widescreen
-Game and music sounds seem a little low compared to ur voice.
-Talk faster during battles. Try and give more play by play detail during these engagements. As a youtube/solo caster you have to strike a good balance between the play by play and analysis.
-Start videos right as the game starts, the player intros and stuff can be done while they're making workers.
-Im not sure what the restrictions are these days on youtube but try and fit a whole game into 1 video.

They are almost as fast, but not quite. Stalkers are still faster.

Tere's a warning sign in the background of a Warren Elis comic, Doktor Sleepless, that says "Warning: Vocal Terrorism Ahead".
As for the length of the videos, I'm afraid I'm limited to 15 mintues per video right now until YT upgrades me to hour long videos, which I'm hoping they do soon as I understand that having it all in parts is a huge pain.
