This is my first blog entry, so a little about myself:
I'm 28 years old and the original Starcraft was one of my favorite PC games (up there with X-wing and Ultima Online). I've never been a competitive player and I'm never going to be. I've never had any interest in going pro in the past and I don't have any interest now. But I love the game and just like Starcraft 1, I'm forever going to be a 3v3, 4v4, and Free-for-All exclusive player.
For my first year or so of Starcraft 1, I played Zerg exclusively, but I later expanded to a random player. (My go-to build in Starcraft 1 was mass hydra/mass expand.) And for the past 24 hours (in my first day dedicated to SC2) I only played Zerg.
But enough of that, now onto SC2;
I've owned a copy of SC2 for about 4 months now, but other than completing the single player (over the course of about 2-3 weeks) and playing a few team matches against computer opponents, I had yet to dabble against human opponents.
But today after my first 5 placement matches I landed in Silver, rank 79. About 30 games later (with about 15 wins) I'm up to rank 39. Note: All I've been playing are 4v4 games.
A couple things I've noticed:
1. It's almost always a bad idea to fast expand. 2. Ling/roach/hydra isn't as good as mass muta. 3. Mutas really suck against mass marine. If your allies don't have anything to deal with the marines, you die. 4. If you allow one opponent to mass Void Rays or Battlecruisers, it's almost always too late to do anything about it. 5. No one uses sentries. 6. No one uses nukes (for some reason). (When I played random in Starcraft 1, I was always the guy to go nukes.) 7. There is a lot less trash talking than I was expecting. In Starcraft 1 it was always "faggot this and faggot that." 8. I've had really ugly losses against both mass baneling and rush to DT/warp prism.
Questions
1. Other than hydra/roach and mass muta, what other compositions should I be going for as I progress? Infestors seem really good, but they just take too much gas. And whenever I've dumped money into zerglings, they just become a waste because they're so ineffective unless you catch a random base with little defense.
2. Are there any replay sites that accept 4v4 games? I've only looked around Google a little bit and one of them looked like it was exclusive for 1v1s.
3. What kind of computer do you need to stream? I'm guessing the processing power of your computer takes a hit when streaming. I'm playing on my laptop and the suggested settings are "low" on everything. Is it possible for me to stream?
Thanks.

So the things you noticed in the Silver League are for 4v4s? Crazy shit happens in any 4v4 . Do people usually mass one unit? Also, good luck with your progress! Shoot for Platinum by the end of the year.

I've been playing a lot of 4v4 since the game came out, so I'll try to answer as best as I can. For the record, this is by no means something definitive, just my opinion and what I've seen work
1. Zerglings are only truly amazing on certain maps, and even then, they only work when there are expansions, or open bases. However, they are amazing money dumps later on, because odds are (if the game has even made it that far) opponents either have really slow units, or not enough to hold their expand as well as pressure. I'd say ling/bling is a great comp if you're going for an early attack, otherwise adjust with what your team-mates do. Protech always claims that Zerg are the support race in team games, so just follow what the rest do, and complement it the best you can. I personally love going for Ultras because I tend to play with Terran team-mates, and their MMM gets really well protected with 8 ultras holding the fort :D
2. I think sc2replayed has 4v4 replays as well
3. If your laptop suggests low as the setup, I doubt it'll run it. However, the best way to find out is just trying. Grab XSplit while its free and give it a go! Don't forget to add the stream to TL so we can watch :D

Yup, all 4v4 for now.
Army compositions can vary, but yeah, it's really limited (compared to all the 1v1 tournaments I've been watching for the past year). But remember, this is Silver League.
You can imagine that if no one uses storms or fungals, mass marine can end up being really fearsome. And the 1 time I was up against mass baneling, I checked the player profile afterwords and this player had racked up thousands of games. (He was also the biggest trash talker of the night, go figure. But that's okay, I just imagine a 14 year old on the other end and it becomes funny.)

I disagree with not fast expanding, the moment you scout that they're not going mega aggressive, lay down that 14 hatch, 2 Base Mass Patrolling Muta can carry the team allowing them to tech to whatever they want. Just make sure you upgrade them and watch out for Phoenix.
Yeah Marines in team are a pain, a toss going Colossus is the best ally to have :D
Masters 4s is easy to get, just keep playing.

in 4s One player should fast expand generally, and the other three mass up early skirmish defense (for the 7-8m atk which will undoubtedly come unless you have 3 opp going void rays) scout like crazy to find out which few units you need to have in the comp to counter whatever
and as far as mutas go, get mutas, festors, and banes by the million and that will take care of your marines and thors as long as you micro. research neural for the festor and the thors get fun to deal with. in 4s its all about approaching one enemies base before they are grouped together, as each person will want to huddle at their own main until they HAVE to move over to help an ally.
kill some shit without losing units, deny expos, expo yourself, and continue to pump that simple comp of bane>festor>muta
research burrow, use the [T]infested marine move a lot when you are fungalling or neuraling , and harass mineral patches with it ([t])
