Is it just me or are Archons really freaking overpowered? I Play a Zerg right, and I just got out of a macro game against my brother. By the 17 minute mark I had both my ling upgrades, my Ultralisks out all with max upgrades(including the one from the Ultralisk Caverns). I was sitting on about 3-4 more bases than he was. My unit comp was:
Zerglings Ultralisks Infestors Hydras
His unit comp:
Zealots Stalkers Archons
My army was far bigger than his, and had ALL of my upgrades. We exchanged blows with each other, and I had about 20-23 units left after the fight, with about 3-5 Ultralisks. I had no more energy left on the Infestors, and he was down to 6 Archons. His 6 Archons killed every single one of my units before he lost one by a lucky final blow by a Zergling.
I mean really? 6 Archons with 2/0/3 laid waste to my 20+ fully upgraded units. That seems a little bit over-powered to me.
Archons should either be able to do high splash damage or absorb alot of hits and tank, or somewhere in-between like an immortal. They shouldn't be able to take massive damage with their OP shields and do 30+ splash damage to everything at the same time. I don't see why people don't use Archons alot more in their games to be honest because that is such a retardedly strong unit.
Any comments or thoughts of your own on the subject, go ahead and leave a comment Thanks for listening.
EDIT: Imagine how much hurt you could bring on a mineral line with double Archon drops?

Archons are fine. They are extremely gas intensive. I can't really say too much without seeing the replay though :X

Ultras are a bit of a backwards unit. They're awesome at tanking archon damage as they're so big that they mess up splash. But they're atrocious at damaging archons with their measly 15 damage per swing. Archons area difficult unit to deal with in any kind of mass as Zerg. What you can take comfort in is that they're disgustingly expensive. You're best off just throwing roach/hydra at them and winning the production war, he might win the battle but when you can spit out waves of roach hydra he can lose his archons once and he's done.

why no roaches O_O
dont throw lings at mass archon/zeal/stalker

Also why no Neural Parasite? You know what's an amazing comp?
Zerglings Ultralisks Infestors Hydras ARCHON.
It's hilarious neural'ing 3 archons in the middle or front of a tossers ball and watching their awesome splash damage wreck their whole army. More infestors mano, those things are made to fight toss.
Seriously, that's how you win. Have 10 infestors, NPx6 Fungalx4 Your friend: Rage.
And yeah, roaches not lings. It's okay to have 20 to run in and fuck up some probes or cut a retreat off but if zerglings are 25% of your composition you're in trouble late game.
+ Show Spoiler [formatting question] +How do you increase [textsize]? I can't emphasize getting NP enough.

the more times you wrap the word around the big tags the bigger the text becomes. As you can see from my quote.
you are right in what you said too.

You should see how bad Ultraling gets messed up by Archons
its quite scary. Archons arent imbalanced however, they are alot better than people give them credit for.

Well I know once the shield is down they are rubbish, but it's that shield + super high splash damage that makes them appear OP to me.

Psst. Banelings. Seriously.
I like to go heavy mutalisk and effectively force blink stalker + archon. As long as they don't get good storms (or any storms), then you can basically mass up banelings behind the mutalisk, and a-move into there army. Doesn't matter if the stalkers blink away, you roll the zealots + archons, and reinforce with zerglings and muta vs the stalkers.
I played a guy once who made about 8 archons. I just made a load of banelings and ripped through them. Yes, archons take a lot of banelings to kill, but you should be able to make a lot of banelings, so who cares? You are also going to be damaging the surrounding units with splash, such as zealots.
Archon, stalker, zealot is my favourite P unit composition to face.
