I somewhat agree. Its kinda ridiculous to single out females replying here when their opinions are the same as those of many others in this thread. Actually I understand with NeverGG because she has often expressed her problems with girls who don't truly contribute to this community, but haemonculus? come on... Nothing wrong with hazelnuts comments either so really I think its sad to talk about "females getting up in arms" Also I saw haemonculus on stream several times, thats not exactly "hiding your gender" but I believe she stopped because of a mass of idiotic comments about her gender. So what exactly is your point? that she in general shouldnt be criticized because shes smart? People dont like her blogs for what they are and for how frequently she posts them. I'm not saying I agree, (in fact I dont think theres anything too wrong with her blogs) but that has just nothing to do with how well she does academically lol. I don't know, I was brought up to believe that people who are able to achieve something are to be taken seriously, but the argument seems to be that because Riku is a woman, she shouldn't be That is such a damn ridiculous thing to say. No one here is even close to carrying that as his argument. also who are those self-absorbed males who make shitty blogs all the time? I'm somewhat curious

If you don't think Haemonculus has tried to hide her gender on these forums, then you're completely blind. Perhaps she had good reason to, but you can see how judgmental she became about Riku's story. Her reply was a defense of Nevergg's continually silly posts and never once did she ask for details such as whether Riku actually had things to defend herself or if she was dressed like that the entire weekend. She jumped straight on the "you should've been raped for doing that" bandwagon. And that's what the cries of "attention whore" are about. People are trying to be themselves and if they happen to be female, we decry them for that. Either they dress racy so they're asking to be raped or they talk about themselves so they deserve to be mocked. These are all just rationalized justifications to demean someone for openly being feminine. Please. Rekrul is 100x the attention whore Riku is and you guys eat him up like candy. And this is the Blogs section, who cares if people talk about themselves? The mods can do our best to ban the "stay in the kitchen" crap but there's still an enormous double standard on this site, largely held by veterans, of how people, and specifically girls, are supposed to act on the internet. It would behoove all of us, myself included, to give it a rest and let people be themselves. Riku's a good writer and she's not detracting from the site in any way. She doesn't flame anyone else and she doesn't post crappy 1 liners or complain about balance or call others a waste of life. She tells well written stories, and if she had never posted her Cosplay pictures, the criticism she receives would be a fraction of what it currently is. I'm not a white knight. I'm a white motherfucking catapult. Come at me, bro.

Judgmental about her story? Absolutely. You don't get into cars with strange older men. I'd give that advice to any woman. Thinking you can physically "kick the butt" of a full grown man? That's an absurd delusion, and one again that I'd try to dissuade anyone from.

I played Reppelz, a free MMORPG when I was a bit younger, for a short period of time. At first, people thought I was a female, given my nick at the time. They would act friendly and try to give me random stuff, follow me and whatnot. Then I'd say, "Hey, you know I'm a dude right?" And they'd leave. So it seems that those seeking some sort of equality are those hiding the fact that they are females, until the gamers crowd looses some testosterone levels. Those who don't mind the extra attention they receive tend to go as far as providing proof, and grounds for fantasies. The problem is that Riku's only quality is that she... is a female. And pretty. Nothing more. This was just some random story, somewhat fun, but it's been 7 pages already. She's smart? NOW you're being sexist. There are many smart people on TL. Is it particularly awesome when a girl is smart? How are her stories particularly well written? There is some sort of jealousy coming from girls who conceal theur gender I guess, but it's the same kind of jealousy you get when you try to respect the environment and ride a bike when a friend passes by, speeding in his car. You're jealous and full of disapproval. Thus the "spicy" reaction. And it becomes a debate because it goes beyond just this thread, it's not even about Riku, but about men and women relationships in particular environments such as the Net in general or gaming circles. It's also a changing situation and should be thought about. "Internet whores" are an interesting and IMO revealing phenomenon that cannot be denied. Even the name, "whores", indicates pretty well where we stand right now. Thus my respect and admiration for girls who "conceal" their gender on the net, genuinly looking for more equality.

Oh, please. My point is that she deserves the same type of acceptance that we'd give a 17-year-old guy who comes to the blog section to post a whiny, involved story about how some girl smiled at him and then kneed him in the groin when he asked for a date and what should he do? That kind of thing gets 5 to 10 pages of gentle sympathy and encouragement, for one reason only, because the predominantly male readers of this site empathize with his post. (And yeah, I saw Chill's post, and I agree. That's not the point, because that kind of post usually gets a sympathetic reaction from most people.) My point is that people are so quick to call Riku misogynistic names like "attention whore" (in her own damn blog thread!) that they're not even listening to what she's saying, and I think it's disgusting behavior. She's a human being with a hell of a lot going on other than showing up in skimpy cosplay costumes every now and then at a con. If that's what she chooses to do with a portion of her spare time, so what? Why is it worth posting hostile rants in her blog if she talks about it? It's not like she hasn't posted about the other stuff, too. In fact, who cares if she posts every day? Who cares if not all of her posts are equally riveting? (Although, to be honest, it's only when she posts an interesting story that she gets this kind of hate from people.) I've posted pictures of myself in my blog and nobody thinks twice about it, but Riku's presumed to be doing it to manipulate people because certain guys who don't get out much felt a little tingle in their private spot when they looked at her pictures. News flash: that's not her problem. Grow up and get over it.

Not at all; I didn't decide 'ahead of time' since NeverGG had already posted her first response, I just anticipated more of it (and again, I wasn't wrong). And I'm not sure how anticipating this reaction was sexist? I'm basing it on extensive personal experience. I have read a lot of haemonculus' posts and have the utmost respect for her and it's just insulting the way you and jibba replied to her and are still going on about it. if her or nevergg were ever terrified of showing they are females it'd be because of stupid replies like yours. I have complete respect for haemonculus as well, and the way she conducts herself here and irl. That doesn't mean however that I don't think there was a bit of passive-aggressiveness to her post, and IMO if the OP wasn't riku, she probably wouldn't even have posted. Again, I'm basing my perceptions on personal experience of how females often judge other females. Stereotyping? A bit, sure. I'm not naive enough to think every female is like that (just take hazelynut's reply for example, I'm not getting that vibe at all from her). Sexist? Not at all. Also, I think you're hanging onto that "terrified of showing they are females" line a bit too much. I've already said I don't think anyone truly believes that. just be clear, I agree that lots of stereotypes are generally correct, including the one you post about here. what irks me is that you arbitrarily apply to it to the females who reply in this thread with no basis whatsoever and it's just insulting. it's exactly what sexism is. Again, as I said above: I apply it when I see it. I got that vibe from NeverGG's and haemonculus's posts. I did not get it from hazelynut's post. Therefore I can apply the stereotype that I've personally witnessed hundreds of times IRL to this situation to those two, but not hazelynut. I fail to see where I'm making an error by "applying a stereotype" AFTER they have already lived up to it?!? For the record, I do also agree with the above poster that mentioned riku goes out of her way to post blogs that can include pictures of herself in it. I can also discuss THAT stereotype if you'd want as well. Personally, I don't really care if she does or not. It's not hurting anything if she is going that route for some extra attention, and if people have an issue with it they can simply ignore it. In fact, the #1 way to 'hurt' the cause of someone who is seeking attention is to ignore them. Not quite sure why people in this thread who are complaining about it haven't figured that out yet. But since they haven't, I will sit back and enjoy the drama.
