Have you ever seen the line for a Twilight movie? Many of the fans are women in their 30s. I have a friend from college in her 30s who writes Twilight fan fiction. That's a part of her life that we don't discuss.

It would be unfair to compare her accomplishments to those of someone 10 years her senior. Point was she's an incredibly smart young engineer with potential and deserves not to be treated like a groupie or called names in her own blog comments.
Internet forum, did you expect more? The only forum I have found so far that is actually good with that is ElitistJerks but that's purely WoW and the moderation is draconic (warnings/temp bans start from grammar/vocabulary mistakes) yet fun.

Life Lesson: do whatever you want and everything works out for the best
okay maybe not quite.
I remember back in high school I was with my family in florida visiting my grandmother, and I knew this really good friend of mine from the internet (I had been talking to him, playing counter strike with him, and making 3d collaborative artwork with him for years) lived in florida. I remember my parents didn't want me to go visit him cause he might be some online predator or some shit, but I was like fuck it and took a greyhound bus to go visit him (was like a 2 hour trip iirc). When I got off the bus I was in a pretty shitty neighborhood (not to be racist but I don't think I saw a single white person throughout my entire trip LOL), everything was all torn up and all I could hear was the mix of shitty rap music being blared from every car at obnoxious volumes. Cars were left unlocked with open windows and shit was broken down all over the place.
It ended up turning out fine though, his sister drove me to their place and we hung out, smoked ganja and played counter strike. I got back fine and overall it was a fun trip with no issues, but looking back I completely trusted some people I didn't really know in a less-than-optimal environment which probably wasn't too smart lol

Listen, booking a motel or hotel room and a cab ride takes at least 7 minutes. That's a shit ton of time to waste when you can just crash at a total stranger's house and BONUS: he can offer you hard liquor he keeps in his car.

Given the whole story, I'm guessing that money was a constraint.

Meh, I don't think anyone thinks they're genuinely "terrified of showing anyone that they're female", but it is definitely the cattiness thing that women have for another women doing something that can be competitive in terms of getting male attention, namely, appearance.
I've seen this SO often with my wife, her girlfriends, etc. etc. it's just funny to see it prevalent online too.
I honestly only kept reading this thread for the drama that was obviously coming from clashing females and I wasn't disappointed.

So so paranoid. 40yo geek probably just wanted some socializing, Blizzard geek wanted to get lucky. Neither seem to have crossed any lines. Seriously. I feel sorry for the people who got taught this irrational fear of other human beings. The world would be such a nicer place if not so many people were afraid of people. Kind of what I was thinking. My absolute favorite adventure included me having all my stuff stolen and almost being stranded in a remote Moroccan town in the Sahara, and it was fucking awesome. I guess there are those who deal with with crises and those who don't. Seems like Riku made it through alright and was better for it. Glad it worked out for you. Sorry you didn't get to meet more people though. That costume was pretty ugly though. :X EDIT: It's a bit hilarious to see longtime TLer females, who are terrified of showing anyone that they're female, suddenly get up in arms because a new wave of female gamers doesn't mind showing people their pics. It's like watching a bunch of moms scold their daughters. And the rape comments? Really? Give men, even WoW players, more credit than that. They have at least a modicum of self control and if you look at the statistics, most sexual assault doesn't occur by strangers who spot scantily clad girls or people offering rides. Oh Haemonculus is one of the female gender? Somehow I think I knew that once.

To be fair, I don't really think you can call Haemonculus's reaction catty. It's pretty similar to a lot of the no-bullshit attitudes that a lot of males have also expressed in this blog.
...unless, FakeSteve is a cat.

I find you to be pretty damn sexist in this thread. You decided ahead of time what it meant should any girls reply, and then view their replies through this lense.
I have read a lot of haemonculus' posts and have the utmost respect for her and it's just insulting the way you and jibba replied to her and are still going on about it. if her or nevergg were ever terrified of showing they are females it'd be because of stupid replies like yours.
just be clear, I agree that lots of stereotypes are generally correct, including the one you post about here. what irks me is that you arbitrarily apply to it to the females who reply in this thread with no basis whatsoever and it's just insulting. it's exactly what sexism is.

I've written game reviews, drink reviews, opinions, shared random childhood stories and talked abot league more than any sane person should. Yet anytime I post a blog that mentions me being female or contains a photo of me, I get hit with "attention whore" immediately.
I don't correct people in my other blogs when they refer to me as a male.
I don't post myspace-esq photos to go "look at me! I have boobs!" Any photo I post of myself (or of a game or of anything) are closely related to the blog.
I generally try not to complain about the drama and name calling, but it's getting rather ridiculous.
Also, let me clear up some misconceptions:
-I drank all of two shots with my newly made friend
-we talked about wow all night, no kissing, no sex
-i wore normal street clothes (jeans and a tshirt) when looking for a ride

I don't think anyone in this blog has actually said it, so I'm just going to go ahead and say it: I enjoyed reading this blog, for the blog itself. Interesting story, despite the obvious danger.

Most of what you clarified was obvious (considering you do say at some point you changed into your costume before Blizzcon).
But, but, you don't have ...
