The world would be such a nicer place if not so many people were afraid of people. Kind of what I was thinking. My absolute favorite adventure included me having all my stuff stolen and almost being stranded in a remote Moroccan town in the Sahara, and it was fucking awesome. I guess there are those who deal with with crises and those who don't. Seems like Riku made it through alright and was better for it. Glad it worked out for you. Sorry you didn't get to meet more people though. That costume was pretty ugly though. :X EDIT: It's a bit hilarious to see longtime TLer females, who are terrified of showing anyone that they're female, suddenly get up in arms because a new wave of female gamers doesn't mind showing people their pics. It's like watching a bunch of moms scold their daughters. And the rape comments? Really? Give men, even WoW players, more credit than that. They have at least a modicum of self control and if you look at the statistics, most sexual assault doesn't occur by strangers who spot scantily clad girls or people offering rides.

I don't know, I was brought up to believe that people who are able to achieve something are to be taken seriously, but the argument seems to be that because Riku is a woman, she shouldn't be. I don't see people lavishing your kind of personally offensive negative "attention" on all the similarly self-absorbed blogs by men in this section. I'd take you seriously too if you weren't seeking out opportunities to call people names in response to their blog posts. Responding with sarcastic one-liners and rants about "attention whores" displays a lot less social aptitude than responding with something nice, or even simply rating the blog a "1" and moving on.

Did someone sit down and said, It seems crazy. I'm learning a lot from this blog. It's to do with the associations made with dogs (man's best friend, saving/keeping you out of danger) and K-9s (canines) and blood hounds used for detective work (or hunting).

All just because they don't flaunt it and post a picture of themselves in their every blog doesn't necessarily mean that they are terrified of showing it, no? And perhaps their comments do have validity in that that unfortunately, women don't necessarily always have the luxury of doing things that guys perhaps wouldn't think twice about doing...

I don't see advice more than I see criticism and you're very defensive so someone triggered a nerve. Maybe you could actually give real advice, such as some options or ideas on how to keep yourself safe when you resort to hitchhiking or how to avoid it (even if it's obvious). I could ask my own mom about that and tell her, since she hitchhiked a good portion of the US (and nothing happened to her). If anything the people who are nice should be scared, not those who are treated well. Think about the person who offered her a ride. He was also being an idiot. He has no power. If he does anything sudden he can crash. She could have something dangerous hidden. She could rape him or steal something when he isn't looking. It goes both ways. It isn't appropriate for a story blog to be riddled with advice. She isn't asking for it and she doesn't need it.

Yeah, questionable judgement calls *three years ago.* Most people grow up quite a bit between 18 and 21, and I'll give Riku benefit of the doubt and say she probably has too.

What if it's a Twilight convention?

Playing outside with a group of friends is different from going to a place you are unfamiliar with dressed like a las vegas prostitue with no means of trasportation. On top of that, you have no friends and start craving the attention of strangers so much that you agree to take shots with a some random guy and then stay at his place. Because that isnt enough of being an idiot, you accept a ride from some 40yr old dude even though you are fully aware that the possibility of him abducting you and doing terrible things to you. Stop talking until you get on the same page. When I was the one asking you bet your ass I accepted it ![]() And she wasn't some 5yo, she was 18, give her some credit, she was at least old enough to know when to run and when to scream, and that balls are sensitive. And yes, you are paranoid because when I ever hitchhiked the first thought that crossed my mind wasn't "maybe this guy will kidnap me", that's just a stupid way to think. Humans are almost decent until proven otherwise. They're not dirty pervs bent on enlarging your asshole.

Meh, I found graduates are mostly worthless as new employees, a degree is nothing without some sort of brain and experience. Mostly because in real world you don't have to memorize stuff from books, you have all the books you want and just need your brain cogs to turn.

Getting a ride home with their parents that night at 9 with no booze doesn't count. Even if they rents do pick up the tab at denny's.

It would be unfair to compare her accomplishments to those of someone 10 years her senior. Point was she's an incredibly smart young engineer with potential and deserves not to be treated like a groupie or called names in her own blog comments.
