I might sound like an old grandpa, but I strongly disapprove of attention... girls.
On the feminine side, it's a ridiculous craving for recognition and a serious lack of affective independence. I was raised by a single mom and all the guys I met as a kid were assholes (even my dad left when I was born). This gave me a lot of respect for women in general, and some hate towards men. But I truly admired my mother's strenght. She was a solid rock and kept on going even though she had me when she was 21 and even though we were in a crappy neighbourhood, in a crappy country. Now, girls like Riku temper this admiration a bit. It does balance my preferences, though. I actually was very cold and mean with my current GF, because she had that sort of personnality, but more shy though. I kind of forgave her when I started realizing the reasons behind her attitude. And she changed, too.
On the masculine side... well, what can I say. Men are pigs. No self-respect whatsoever. No dignity at all. The girl is passed-out drunk? They'll have their way. The girl is awake and they're too intimidated to make a move? They'll buy her dinner, food, pay her drinks, presents, in hopes for sex but they'll never get anything. And the girl knows but uses their weakness.
To all the weaklings out there, to all the nerds worshipping this girl, grow a pair of balls. Please. Or kill yourself.

That's interesting. I'd say that Riku deserves to be taken a lot more seriously than she is. She's a year away from graduating from one of the most challenging engineering schools in the U.S. and is likely to be successful at whatever she chooses to do in life, yet people spout derision in her blog threads because they perceive her as some kind of facile groupie.
Anyway, I'm not sure what your issues with your traumatic childhood have to do with her.

1) It was a story about how young and dumb I was at my first Blizzcon.
2) It was the only time in my life I had ever done such a thing.
3) I don't think it was cool, but I think you overreacted, so I trolled you. Herp. Balls of steel. Derp.
4) The only time I was at risk was crashing at my newly made friend's place and four other people knew I was there.
5) During the drive, I had my phone in my hand at all times and watched to make sure we were going to the right place. If we weren't, I could have called 911 or done something else WELL before he could do anything without crashing the car.
6) Stop with this whole "didn't parents ever..." thing. Duh, common knowledge. It's also common knowledge than teenagers are dumb and think they are invincible. Never in my blog did I state it was a good idea and, in fact, at the end, I noted how remarkable it was that I wasn't raped or murdered.
No, you chill out. She's just trying to point out that you made some seriously dumb calls that night. Take the friendly advice and move on.
1. So you were young and naive, we've all been there. Just go with a friend next time. Your chances of someone trying to take advantage of you are *drastically* reduced with another person around.
2. Good to hear.
3. Mayyyybe she overreacted in a world in which this all already happened, and you got away fine. You even state yourself that it's remarkable you didn't get raped or murdered. Her comments are pretty reasonable.
5. Had your hand on your phone? Have your hand on your mace. You think you coulda "kicked his butt" if he tried anything? Really? I get young and innocent but eesh.

You should change your name to Lysenko, the white knight!
anyways, what does riku's education have to do with the fact that all her blogs are attention whoring bullshit? Really? for example, i'm doing software engineering at the 2nd best uni in australia, ranked somewhere in the top 50 uni's last time i checked. I dont want people to tolerate shitty blogs just because i'm getting a good education....

You must've misquoted because the "weaklings" aren't Riku. Riku is probably a very smart person, and very cute to boot.
The weaklings are those who behave like Gollum around Frodo when faced with a pretty girl.
Regarding the OP herself, I agree with the post above, it is what people call "attention whoring", and it just drives me nuts to see people belittle themselves to the point of asking some more.
And about my childhood, it wasn't traumatic at all, I got to witness many things and many places, and I believe it opened my eyes about many things, among which is the often despicable behaviour of men .

I often wonder how characters like this come about; was there a board meeting where they decided it should be a dog instead of a person? Did someone sit down and said,

What are kids going to be more interested in, another adult saying things about stuff, or a colourful doggy police mascot? I dunno what the child psychological studies on information retention say about these kinds of things, but it's definitely commonly thought that kids need to be entertained at the same time as they are informed. Most kids books (educational or otherwise) feature animals. I think the idea is that a lesson is more memorable if you can attach it to a character.
I thought it might actually be something to do with how children lavish attention on dogs. They're used to spending a lot of time making sure their dog knows they care about it.
Think about it, even if it's a bit mangy and ragged, if a dog starts to whine and all the kids come running to make sure it's okay.

Is this why you don't come out to dinner anymore?
No I moved to germantown and dinner is like an hour drive now T_T

Creepy dogs used to stalk me when I was a kid. One time one followed me all the way to my elementary school and people said "Is that your dog?" "Nope..." Pet owners in my neighborhood are kind of morons. Their dogs jump up to the fence and bark aggressively at everyone who walks by, presumably because they have too much energy because their dipshit owners never actually walk it T.T

Youd have to be really really naive to think that just because you are at blizzcon, everyone is a good person and trust worthy. Especially when you are in a whoreish outfit...i mean costume... and broadcasting that you are by yourself.
Maybe if people were more "cynical" there would be a lot less rape and abusr in the world.
And i dont think Conan was reffering to rape (or worse) as things that dont turn out exactly like they should when talking about the consequences of "cynicism" in this case
And you'd have to be really paranoid to not talk to any strangers either. How would you meet people then?
As an idea I've spent my entire childhood with a key around my neck playing outside with friends. Boys and girls alike. And the worst that I've heard happen with my groups of friends was someone falling from a tree on their head. Luckily minimal damage. The outside is not some evil place filled with people with violent stuff on their mind.
Well maybe as a kid, you should have stopped being so "paranoid" and started playing with 40 year old men.
Your argument is absolutely stupid. Playing outside with a group of friends is different from going to a place you are unfamiliar with dressed like a las vegas prostitue with no means of trasportation. On top of that, you have no friends and start craving the attention of strangers so much that you agree to take shots with a some random guy and then stay at his place. Because that isnt enough of being an idiot, you accept a ride from some 40yr old dude even though you are fully aware that the possibility of him abducting you and doing terrible things to you.

Uncles are awesome, what are you talking about? :p
I dont give a shit what riku does or has done with her life, but the people who are calling people cynical or paranoid because they see the dangers of what she wrote are absolutely moronic.
