Weekly Cup Competitions
Week of June 30 - July 6
by Wax
The clock is ticking down to EWC, but for now, top-tier players don't seem to be that concerned with hiding their gameplay and strategies. The week of June 30 - July 6 saw the majority of the regulars stay active in cup competition, with Classic coming out on top with two cup wins.
*Partial brackets may be shown.
June 30: Monday Night Weeklies #20

Classic started the week with a strong title run in Monday Night Weeklies, dropping just a single map on his way to victory. While Clem has been a tricky opponent for Classic in recent months, Classic showed why his PvT defense is nigh impervious against any other Terran by stonewalling ByuN in consecutive BO3 series to wrap up the tournament VOD).

July 1: WardiTV Mondays #42

WardiTV "Mondays" was pushed to Tuesday due to Wardi's travel back from HomeStory Cup, reminding everyone why you shouldn't name your tournaments after a specific day of the week.
In any case, the cup saw
herO make his return after taking the previous week off, and the top Protoss player promptly resumed his winning ways (VOD). herO took the WardiTV Somedays title with a near-perfect run, dropping just a single map to SHIN in the finals on account of a failed Glaive-Adept timing.

July 1: PiGosaur Cup #38

The third time was the charm for MaxPax, who won PiGosaur Cup after being thwarted by Classic and herO in the two previous cups. The mysterious Dane defeated ByuN 3-1 in the finals, forcing the Shopify Terran to settle for his second runner-up finish of the week (VOD).

July 2: uThermal 2v2 Circuit: Warm Up Cup #1
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/thermy2v2warmup01.png)
With a month remaining before his $10,000 2v2 tournament in August, uThermal decided to fill the downtime in the team scene by hosting a series of smaller "warm up" cups.
Unsurprisingly, the first warm up cup went to the dominant 2v2 team of Spirit + [Any Protoss Player], which had won four out of five monthly competitions previously held by uThermal. This time around, Spirit's partner happened to be ShoWTimE, and the European duo took the cup with a one-sided 3-0 win against Clem-Trigger in the finals (VOD Part 1 - Part 2). .

July 5: Korean StarCraft League #77
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/KSL77.png)
The bi-weekly KSL returned for cup #77, which ended up being contested between Reynor and
Classic in the finals. While Classic has made a name for himself lately with his super-passive, defensive play in PvZ, he altered his approach against Reynor by going for a series of mid-game attacks. This chance of pace seemed to catch the Italian Zerg (VOD), and he conceded a 0-3 sweep to Classic.
