Interesting that the far right wing is getting bolder and bolder and continuing to alienate the silent majority of normal peeps without even realizing what they're doing . . . so I actually see this as making progress in a reverse psychology sort of way.

Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion. For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

On the contrary, I see it in quite the opposite light. The left has been getting bolder and bolder as of late in rising against companies that their worldview conflicts with, and the whole "Chick-Fil-A ban-threats from cities" was the next step up. Look at what happened last Wednesday: customers came out en masse to eat at the restaurant that day. For some it was to combat the statements mayors and city officials made regarding setting up a business in their cities; for others it was to show support to Cathy and the company for their stance on this divisive issue; for still others, I'm sure it was because they were just idiots who hate gays.... '>_> (*facepalm*) But the point is that in attempting to tarnish the names of companies like Chick-Fil-A because of a disagreement in politics, the left rallied many forces to its side, but the "silent majority" awoke and showed support for the company. If anything, if you ask me, all the negative press only brought the business tons more customers.

If anything, if you ask me, all the negative press only brought the business tons more customers. I think a lot more people didn't eat there that day than did, it's impossible to accurately measure who the "silent majority" was. Really a load of people making a statement by waiting for a long time to eat at somewhere specific to make a point can not possible be described as a silent group at all, they're clearly making a statement. Additionally, it's not even an issue of left vs right, there are plenty of right wing polticicians and people who support those views who're not bigots. The day essentially came down to three things. First, was those who're anti gay and anti gay marriage (not that there's really a difference between the two, but people insist there is so fine) who turned up and second there were those who wrongly conflated the issue with free speech and so turned up. Finally there were no doubt some out, as you say, who were there to combat the mayoral issue though I think they would be the extreme minority as everyone there was painted with the brush of the majority - anti gay - and in attending most people would know what message was being sent.

Definitely agree, and to look at another example where a company ditched right-wing America, check out Carbonite: |News Story Here| I cancelled my carbonite account when they got all whiny about college girls wanting the government (i.e. taxpayers) to pay for birth control pills. If Sandra Fluke wants birth control pills, then purchase them yourself rather than ask for free handouts from others. My point is that when the liberal left does a boycott, or a liberal-appealing company does a boycott, they vastly underestimate where "middle america" aligns itself. Nice post, Anax

They were the "silent majority," but "awoke," so to speak, on that day to put their money where their beliefs lie; "silent no more," you might say. (who knows if they'll awaken once more this November at the polls...) They simply waited until now to make their statement. Chick-Fil-A also reported "Record Setting Sales" for that day, and I guarantee you some of those people that didn't go chose not to simply because of the crazy-long lines. The more publicity Chick-Fil-A, or any company for that matter, gets, positive or negative, the more business it'll get; and CFA is just the largest, most recent example of this. "...there are plenty of right wing polticicians and people who support those views who're not bigots." Don't think I've ever heard that from a non-conservative, lol. X-D The idea behind it being about "free speech" is valid because it's to protect the people's right to speech from the government. Because the city governments of Chicago, Boston, and others planned on infringing on that right by banning the business from the city (which they've largely recounted by now). The mayoral and free speech issues go hand-in-hand. (Pardon this slight derailing of the thread. I think the issue's been beat to death by now, but if anyone wants to keep discussing it, we could move to the "Boston Mayor Vows to Ban Chick-Fil-A from City" thread, or make a new one.)

Hilariously, some of the pictures that have been flooding my tumblr have been of the swimmers and divers. Some of their photoshoots, though, are pretty bad. I blame the art director/photographers who don't understand body types.
