I found this on eBay: http://m.ebay.ca/itm/111226817891 The title seems a bit odd. It is a normal male-male DP1.2 cable right? It's not male DP1.2 - male DP1.1 or anything?
Thanks.
I can't speak of the quality of the cable, but I'd be wary of buying anything direct from China. Even if it DOES work, is it really worth waiting 2-3 weeks to find out?
Ah okay, thanks. Should've posted here before buying I guess.
I went with eBay for a few reasons 1) the guy at canada computers said all of NA is out of stock, and will be for a while 2) it's $7 with free shipping. That's nothing 3) I can wait. In the meanwhile I'm running it at 30Hz with HDMI and it's ok. Definitely noticeable. How do console players game at 30fps?

Actually it's not really ignorance moreso that mouse sensitivity is different than joystick sensitivity. A mouse is an example of position-based input whereas a joystick is rate-based input. The sensitivity difference of these two devices makes up for the refresh rate.
When did this start being about input devices? I assume the complaint is the fact that 30fps just isn't visually appealing, maybe I misread.
"Ignorance is bliss" because console gamers are generally not savvy enough to even know what 30fps *is* so they're the last ones to notice how shitty their gaming environment actually is. But hey, they eat it up.
Could any of you please suggest online electronics stores in the UK that offer good deals on laptops?
More specifically, do you know any such deals for 13-inch versions of Lenovo Yoga 2 and/or Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro laptops? Preferably sporting an SSD. If there're reasonable alternatives I should consider, please suggest.

Awesome, I will be getting the Seasoniic M12II Evo one instead then. It's 520 watt as opposed to 450 watt but since they don't draw all the power but only what they need I guess it's all good (and gives even more headroom for later upgrades such as a second GPU etc).
Good point about the HDD mounting, I'll do it the right way then, use the bottom 'cage' for HDD and SSD, remove the middle and leave the optical drive 5.25" area empty.
Thanks again, tomorrow is ordering time, so excited!
You can mount the SSD in the 5.25" area with some screws and whatever you have there (tape, zip ties, what not)
To temper expectations, you'd probably need a 650 watt PSU minimum to handle high powered 2nd GPUs in the future. For very very high powered GPUs (2x 290X, you're looking closer to 700+ watts minimum)
All in all, looks like a good build.
Ah fair enough, I'm not actually planning on upgrading to 2 GPUs ANY time soon (or at all atm) so it doesn't matter too much! Of course I could somehow screw the SSDs into that spot in the case but I think I'd rather play it safe and keep the SSD and HDDs where they 'belong' and where it's easy to slide them into the trays.

30hz @60+fps is better than 30fps @60hz. Both suck though

Update rate has two main benefits: 1; Smoothness of animation and 2; Input latency. The input method can't compensate for either of those at all
The controller helping to make shitty latency fun makes total sense to me. There was a game I tried to play where the mouse input for looking around was ridiculously terrible. It had some sort of acceleration that you couldn't fix in the config, and there was a massive delay on top of that. It was like steering a vehicle or something. When things are terrible like that, I imagine an analog stick for turning can still feel fun.
Plenty of console games run 60 fps, just frequently not multiplatform AAA titles.
A lot of times, 30 fps is not that bad for fluidity of motion as long as there's no fast panning or field of view or interacting with a mouse cursor zipping around or any fast changes on screen in general. This can look okay in plenty of titles, especially if you don't have a different frame of reference.
People out there game on 50+ ms laggy TVs, even on PCs, so again, how much latency matters depends on the game, and some are less sensitive than others.
Hmm so I was looking for 2133Mhz DDR3 RAM (2x4GB) that is not much more expensive than the 1600Mhz sticks (Kingston Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (€70.78 @ Amazon Deutschland)) but I can't find anything that's not WAY more expensive. Am I blind or doing something wrong? Or does that just not exist and I should just order the 1600Mhz RAM anyways?

That would be without shipping costs as you already buy several parts at Mindfactory, I think? (those guys have btw. no shipping costs if you order for 200 € or so after midnight)
I thought bucks was for American dollars. Glad things are working out for you though. Sorry that you couldn't find faster RAM but at least you got yourself some nicely priced 1600 RAM.
Hello, looking to build a decent gaming rig at a $650 price point. This will be my first time building a computer :D
I also saw this build on youtube and was wondering what you all thought?
What is your budget? $600-650
What is your monitor's native resolution? 1080p
What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? SC2, DOTA2, CS:GO, misc steam games on high or better settings. I would also like to be able to play most AAA titles on medium to high settings.
What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? Web surfing, word processing, skype, and teamspeak.
Do you intend to overclock? Open to the possibility, but I would prefer to get the desired performance without.
Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? No
Do you need an operating system? Yes
Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? No
If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify I was thinking about getting a ssd, but not sure if it would fit in my price range. Perhaps, it can be an upgrade in the future.
Hey guys, I'm looking for a build that I can use for gaming & media as I intend to plug the PC up with my TV as well. That being said I'm looking for a rough sketch and some tips on where I should start to look at. I'll explain in greater detail:
What is your budget? I'd like it to be around 800€ all in all. I'm from Germany, so most likely going to pick a german retailer resulting in prices in €. I'm not going to cry if it's 30€ above that if it makes sense but that's the treshhold I'd like to keep in mind.
What is your monitor's native resolution? Double monitor, 1080p. Though I don't use the 2nd one for anything gaming related. Stuff like my browser or irc will be on the 2nd monitor and not much else. More on that at the bottom.
What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? Dota2, I'm going to get me GTA when it's out on PC... other than that random games like Civ V inbetween. As for what settings... I really don't know what I can expect, I've been using a laptop for the last couple years and want to get a proper PC again.
What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? That's a big one for me and essentially the reason I'm asking here: I do intend to plug it up with my TV and use it to watch streams and all kinds of other things I've got on my HDD. The reason I'm asking here is because the PC's going to be in the same room as my TV and I want it to be quiet when I watch something. I don't need it to be absolutely silent but I don't want it to be like an airplane starting off either while watching some Dota, Anime or whatever else...
I'd like to give the "If you have a supercomputer or want to make yours cry tears of blood" setting for MPC a try and see how that ends up. No Idea how old that comment is and if it's still accurate. In the end I'll probably settle for something mediocre though because as mentioned, don't want it to sound like an airplane
Do you intend to overclock? No. Seems counterintuitive to my just mentioned "I want it to be quiet"
Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? No
Do you need an operating system? No
Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? No, I do want an SSD + a normal HDD though.
If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. Not really
What country will you be buying your parts in? Germany
If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. Amazon.de is fine and so is Mindfactory as well. As for the other two mentioned in the OP I never tried them but as long as they're not shady as fuck I wouldn't mind either. I'd like to keep it something that ships from Germany for shipping costs sake unless it's big difference in price.
Additional Info I consider noteworthy Like I said I intent to plug it up with my TV. Best case scenario would be if I can have it constantly connected and only turn on/off the TV switching from 1 to 2 Monitor usage that way. That's how I'm doing it right now with my Laptop connected via HDMI. So far so good and that shouldn't be an issue (right?). Now here's the tricky part: If possible I'd like to use actual dual monitor as well... so it would be 3 monitors (2 actual monitors, 1 TV) I'd like to use. That being said I don't intend to actually "use" them all at the same time, just alternate between dual monitor and main monitor + TV would be amazing. If I can do that without having to unplug cables all the time that'd be nice. But no idea if that's something available only to super expensive video cards...
Other than that... Keep in mind I'm switching from a Laptop, so there're no spare parts to be had. Case is needed, SSD/HDD is needed. The things I have are monitors, a mouse, keyboard and my OS.
If you guys are busy and have to cherrypick on what to do, I'd be happy to get at leasst some input on the "what to pick when I want it to be a reasonably quite one" question because I never really thought about that in any of my earlier adventures and again the emphasis on the silent part is really "I don't want it to be loud" and not "it needs to be super quiet"
Watching video isn't exactly demanding for a modern desktop computer so fans won't be rev'ing up for this sort of activity. Most custom built computers are not audible to the ear during idle and small tasks. Computers only get loud when you are doing high performance tasks such as gaming where the graphic card fans rev's up to 60%+ or when there's a lot of harddrive activity.
But get a sound dampening case like a Fractal Design Define R4 or NZXT H440. And you can get an aftermarket heatsink like the Thermalright Macho or True Spirit as well.
Three displays are very easy to run with a modern system. All the modern Intel motherboards have video output to handle at least one display and modern video cards appropriate for gaming can support at least two displays, a lot can do three or more as well via HDMI or DP. So you don't need to worry about having to unplug and stuff.

Can I just take that as a start and have a look at it as it's pretty much in my budged range as well? Or is it overkill on the CPU because I don't want to stream?
I basicly added SSD/HDD, added the case and heatsink you recommended and that's it. Ends up with the price being around 900€. Do I suck it up or is there something to drop it by about 50€ considering that I don't want to stream? I'd be fine with 900€ as well if the build is decent. But I don't want to throw away money either if Cyro picked CPU and GPU with that in mind.
I'll probably end up getting an external Blu-ray drive as well instead of getting a standalone blu-ray player for my TV but I'll hold that off until Christmas so nothing of the sort included above.
