All two boards I've tried had really bright lights while I've never been bothered by it on my rubber boards. Maybe just coincidence. ![]() I think its because most mech boards have the same or very similar insides. Im sure the WASD leds are the same as my Filco leds, its just the lens over them the WASD one is more focussed so only annoying if you have your head directly above the led. While the filco one is more diffuse.

Read up on them and choose the one you think you will like, ideally go to the store and try them. afaik they are pretty similar quality wise.

Only differences between my WASD and Filco: WASD has a slightly larger case WASD doesnt have rubber on the extended feet (I don't use them anyway) WASD has nicer LEDs (I have tape over my filco's because they are so bright and annoying) Imo get laser etched rather than engraved. You can only see the engraved in certain lighting. Filco has special stabilizers for the large keys (Space, shift, etc.), that WASD probably doesn't have as well, they probably use Cherry stabilizers which are found in most other keyboards like Leopolds. The tradeoff being that the filco's large keys feel nicer but are less durable/long lasting.

Nah WASD uses costar stabilisers, same as Filco. http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keyboard-parts-1.html You can even buy the stabilisers if you manange to break one

I can't give much feedback on the two keyboards, however, because I'm just researching what kind of mechanical I want to be my first. SteelSeries 6GV2 @ Newegg - Unfortunately, this is out of stock at the SteelSeries American online shop. Das Model S Professional Keyboard @ Newegg I hope these were the two you're looking for at a reasonable price.

Filco > Das http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823201045&Tpk=rk-9000bl I'm not really sure about switch type, It will be used for playing starcraft. Most "experts" have been saying brown or blue from what im getting, but black also seem to be a favorite of alot of the pros, I'm guessing any would work for me.. I'm thinking the 6GV2 or the RK-9000BL because I dont like how the Das and some keyboards, like my current one, have space still to the left of your left hand. I think this would help my hand from getting lost and shifting on the keys. So what is better about the RK-9000BL compared to the 6GV2? Im kinda nervous that there are mechanical keyboard hipsters that would point me to a Filco rather than 6gv2 just because.

Which I will tell you right now, get REDS!! Unless you're dead set on getting the heavier black switches, I can't say enough on how great reds are! They're linear switches, like blacks, but they have the lightness of blues or browns, so the best of both worlds imo! ^^ They also feel absolutely amazing to play games on. Once you're used to the force required, it's like you barely have to press anything for keys to register, and with no tactile bump there is almost zero resistance in the key's depression. So to me it feels like I'm playing games while typing on a cloud. :D Seriously, look into it. Not enough people in this thread give reds credit (probably because until just half a year ago reds were almost impossible to find outside of Asia, so most have never tried them). I'd go as far as to say they're the ideal switch type for Starcraft 2, or any RTS honestly. Yeeeaaa Reds!! ^^

The leopolds are just as good as filcos yes, but why have him spend more money? The rk-9000/bl are just as good as leopolds cept you save yourself some money. I would only recommend leopolds if the rk was out of stock or if he wanted red switches, then I would recommend a leopold seeing as their $20 cheaper w/o shipping. If he wants browns its a toss up seeing as leopold and the rk-9000br are the same price. Assuming he gets the 2 day free shipping from newegg he saves around $10.50 shipping.
