The first week is the hardest as your fingers want to fall back into their old pattern but then it gets easier and easier until you don't have to think about it at all. Yeah definitely. I really had to force myself to do what the program told me the first time i tried it and i constantly went back to what i was used to, but if you do it every day typing with 10 fingers will become what you are used to. It's a tough nut to crack but once you've done so it's really good. When you guys say 10 fingers you mean also using both your thumbs? I touch type (never look at keys) and I only use my thumb to hit the space bar. + Show Spoiler +On September 21 2012 05:42 Sovano wrote:Nevermind my stupidity. My PBT keycaps came in today Only complaint is the grey casing on the CM Storm but oh well I love the color arrangement anyways. Although the picture quality doesn't do the colors much justice. I wish I could have gotten the white version of the Filco Majestouch. Man would this look even better. Maybe some other day though. ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/kU6cC.jpg) Those keys look like they belong in my bowl of lucky charms cereal. Haha looks nice Well, yeah, technically it's mostly 9 fingers you are using with one thumb usually idle, but there's some rare scenarios where I use my other thumb for space as well (like some kind of alt + ctrl + space combinations) when it's more convenient. Some might use their second thumb to hit "alt gr" as well, it often depends a little how large or small your hand is. The bottom line, if you are using all your fingers except one of your thumb, then I'd still classify it as 10 finger typing.

I'm assuming that you're directing that post towards me.The photo doesn't do it much justice, neither the case either. It costs $67.99 plus shipping. You can find it in here. Those are the ones I got because I felt as engraved would be better in the long run. There's also two other versions with the letters on top and on the side. He also has other keycaps in his shop. I honestly like the feel of the PBT caps; they feel pretty nice.

Please do so I love seeing keyboards with new keycaps. This one made my day. If I'm not mistaken those are the same exact keycaps that I just posted today as well. Man if only I knew how to add in LEDs to each of my switches.

I emailed WASD a couple weeks ago asking about it, but I was told they only offer that service on the fully-custom keyboards, rather than also offering it on their keycap sets.

I appeal to the great wisdom of TL. What is a good mechanical keyboard to get (say under 100)? I kind of want to get one but I have no idea about the different choices...

The thing is I have no idea what I want (never owned one before). I do know that my "regular" keyboard requires me a lot of force to press down a key and I really don't like it (too much effort/fatique).

Ok well a pretty safe bet is to go for blues or browns, they seem the most comfortable and popular. Either of these choices will serve you well and provide a good introduction to mechanical keyboards. For under 100 dollars, probably the CM Storm TKL or full versions will be a good choice, you might be able to find a Leopold for that price also, an ebay search or searching your local online computer stores will be your best bet.

Saw this in several website, I am just gonna C&P their press release :
Matias releases World’s Quietest Mechanical Keyboard
TORONTO, September 20, 2012 — For users who crave the feel and speed of mechanical keyboards, but are put off by the noise, Matias has the solution... Today, they released the Quiet Pro Keyboard, an ultra-quiet version of their award-winning Tactile Pro. “We’ve been working on this for over 2 years. We had to develop a whole new keyswitch to do it. It was an enormous undertaking. We weren’t even sure if it was possible — but we managed to pull it off. It feels just as good as the Tactile Pro, but it’s quiet,” said Matias.
( .... ) /snip
I am skeptical but pretty excited. Been putting off buying mechanical keyboard cos the clicky sound would drive me crazy.

Bunch of marketing mumbo jumbo imo, make an announcement about a silent keyboard that has taken a lot of time and effort to develop but no pictures, no pricing, no specs, no features, or even a noise level? Weird stuff...
EDIT: Right you had to follow the link underneath the actual article for pictures. Still weird.

They neither have a tactile bump nor clicky sound. The two more popular switches, brown and blues, have one and both of those in respective order. I'm interested in their "new switch" but honestly just as fragile said I find it to be bs. Look at Das and their "silent" keyboard. It doesn't really sound any different from any other keyboard out there even though it claims to be silent when it isn't. Unless I can actually see some switch specifications and a thorough video review I'm not going to pay attention to it.

If it was just a normal mech keyboard but silent that would be awesome for some people imo, but the way those keys are shaped and the way the board is shaped, looks pretty uncomfortable for gaming. seems like this is a lot less margin for error with thinner tapered keys that are all curved etc.

I'm looking to buy a new keyboard here soon. One feature I'd like is to be able to change what each key does. For instance, I'd like to be able to basically "move" the shift key to the space bar (really wish SC2 would allow us to remap the shift-key functionality.) I've looked into several keyboards and the only thing I've seen that seems to suggest this is possible is the Blackwidow's "fully-programmable keys". Although, I'm not 100% sure that means what I hope it means.
Any suggestions on keyboards that allow this functionality, if any?

You can do that with any keyboard with software. Like shiftkeys or autohotkey.
edit: I think its sharpkeys not shiftkeys
