My shoulders, back, and wrists are fucked up and typing on a mechanical keyboard (Razer Blackwidow here) eases the pain considerably. Love the feel of the keys and having to press down only halfway does wonders for my discomfort.
Having said that, I think Filco produces the best. The Blackwidow, though, is the cheapest mechanical keyboard you can buy and comes at a great price, IMHO.

For typing I loved the feel of the Blue switches on the Razer Blackwidow, it really did make typing feel amazing. As for gaming, I did feel that I made alot more mis-types, pressing down the wrong keys during a heated moment.
As for the black switches on the 7G, I found I hardly ever mistype with them, which is really the selling point for black switches. However for typing it really doesn't feel too good, the keys feel really hard to push down at first but once you get used to them it's perfectly fine.
So as you can probably tell I voted Steelseries, the keybaord itself feels robust and like it wouldn't break easily, compared to the Blackwidow which really pissed me off by breaking after a month. And since it's for gaming the steelseries is really the better option in my opinion.
Thank you for a reasoning behind why you have a steel series. It sounds like I want something with black switches and I'm probably going to get a Steelseries!

You're asking on a starcraft site, so you're likely to get responses from starcraft players regardless. Either way, I don't see how this is thread-worthy

Apples and Oranges. Though, I personally love my Razer Blackwidow.

thermaltake has some cool ones with a built in fan to stop your hands from sweating too much

Black Widow aka shitty keboard of the month is 130 so yea.

They don't just sound good, they feel good as well. @OP It's honestly up to whether you want the cherry blue switches or the cherry blacks. I highly recommend you test them in store before you buy them since they feel distinctly different. Honestly from my point of view, the Razer(blues) are better for RTS gaming while the Steelseries(blacks) are better for FPS gaming. The only thing I'll warn you about is that the steelseries have different keyboard layouts and some of them are truly convoluted with small backspaces, shortened right shifts etc etc. Make sure you can live with the layout you get.
Ahh very nice to note, I have used keyboards with shortened backspaces, And I can get back into that but, Im going to have to go to my computer store and see if they have the 2 kinds of switches. THanks!

I like the steelseries 6gv2 a little better than the black widow, mainly because I have no use for a bunch of macro buttons and special function keys. That said, I'd take a Leopold or Filco over either.

Steelseries Keyboards are better than razer..

I had that same mentality about a year ago. All I can say is that it's all about the user (preference) and how the keyboard is used (purpose). My first mechanical keyboard, a Razer BlackWidow, is worth every penny.

Filco Majestouch with cherry brown keys is the best keyboard.

Steelseries only have mechanical black I think. (6g 7g) Razer has black widow which is mechanical blue.
You will be better off looking at Filco Majestic Touch.

To the OP if you can buy a keyboard for under 5 dollars thats god mode.

It's not about how it "sounds". The feel of typing on a mechanical keyboard is superb to a regular membrane.
the difference between a rubber dome (I believe that's what it's called?) and a mechanical keyboard is HUGE, once you try a mechanical keyboard you'll probably never ever feel comfortable on a rubber dome keyboard again (I have the Das Keyboard, I had a pretty old G15 before).

I have a Razer BlackWidow and honestly couldn't be happier.
- The blackwidow's blue switches are a symphony of wonderful clicks when i type. The audible click has actually helped me when playing sc2 and when typing since the feedback allows me to both type and play with more confidence as i never have to worry if i hit the key hard enough or accurately. I hear the click and move on; i didn't realize that it was such a big deal till i used the blackwidow. - Additionally the added macro keys on the side are nice to launch applications or just to replace or clone other keys. I use M1, M2, and M3 to clone 0, 9, and 8 which i use to hotkey my nexus(s or i). - Futher the blue light up razer logo is kind of cool, but not a big feature.
I didn't go with a SteelSeries because i didn't want the black switches (but that's a personal decision). I wanted an audible click and/or tacticle feedback which black switches lack. Additionally i wasn't a big fan of the SteelSeries enter key which is different from the BlackWidow.
For all the reasons already listed i chose the blackwidow over a steelseries mechanical keyboard. not to mention the price on the blackwidow was more attractive at the time of purchase as well.
best of luck on your purchase mate
Edit: I'm talking about the Blackwidow regular here, not the Ultimate (Ultimate in my opinion is not worth the extra money. Regular Blackwidow is perfect)

Bingo. Even better if you get it tenkeyless.. :D.
Don't trust gamer crap, the cost is derived from branding, led's and advertising.

Razer, because they sponsor gsl

Lol people can't be serious voting razer?

Razer products are great when they aren't broken. They're very hit or miss I find, either you get a good product or you get one that breaks in a few months. They need to get their quality control fixed.
