It's almost as good of a buy as my mx518 for FPS. to be fair the keyboard probably gives you like a .1% skill increase...its mainly for comfort, aesthetics and overall enjoying an experience. I've played on laptop keyboards almost all my life and it really hasn't had any effect really. To the OP, both companies produce keyboards of similar quality that hits a budget price point. It would be wise to make a decision based on the switch you want. SS keyboards are cherry black and linear/non tactile while the razor BW is cherry blue and tactile/audio feedback. You can find extensive reviews online in the form of videos and text.

Do some research on which kind of switches you want and make your decision based on that.

Altho' I suppose a Razor or Steelseries keyboard will do for the people with a lesser budget (or willing to spend less on "just a keyboard"). I myself use a Filco Majectouch Tacticle (brown switches).. best keyboard i've ever used, worth the €140 in my opinion. It would be nice company's like Razor and Steelseries also offered their keyboards with different switches.. oh well.

Low budget being relative, of course. Personally, I can't stand Cherry blues, too loud - I greatly prefer blacks. Haven't ever gotten to try browns, but I'm not sure I really care about the tactile feedback?

The clicky sound was a bit much for me and the fact that the release point was above the actuation point was a whole mess. I went with a non-mechanical for the time being, but if I had to get another mechanical it would probably be something from FILCO or something a bit more economical and quieter (not blue switches).

It's Cherry Blue versus Cherry Blacks, so how is this even a discussion. If you want to talk about layouts, Razer has the more standard keyboard layout except for the Function keys. Steelseries has a mis-sized Enter or Backspace or Forward Slash key. The build quality on both is absolutely the same. If you don't like gloss, don't get the Razer. Steelseries has the standard plastic cover, but just as solid. Both have a fair share of failure. As always, use GOOGLE or even the SEARCH FUNCTION on this website. This question has been asked many, many times already. And there are keyboard recommendation threads you can use as well. Everyone's opinion on a forum or website will be completely biased towards what their own preferences are, and what keyboard they use. If you bought a mechanical keyboard from either, why would you need to trade unless you hate mechanicals in general. They both work, so once you've bought either, you're done and don't need to test others out. Again, you cannot compare Cherry Blues versus Blacks due to personal bias.

It's heavy as heck, very durable and i've had it for at least 6mo with zero issues so far. It's a pleasure. I'm sure SteelSeries is equally great. What should go into the decision is keyboard layout, and switches desired. Those are probably the two most important things.

Filco, ducky, das, all make better keyboards, but they dont look as cool as the razer ones and as a result the general public aren't willing to buy them. For those who brag about how good their blackwidows are, go try out a filco and you will feel the difference. Not that blackwidows are bad (they are wonderful compared to the convitional rubber dome keyboards), but its just that you get what you pay for. edit: spelling
