Personally I would just do a clean install, install whatever drivers you need, and use Ninite to batch download and install all of your essential programs. Windows 7 will take care of everything else for you. You don't have to use AHCI do you? (I've not got a lot of experience with SSDs, I'm a poor college grad ) The reason I ask is; if for whatever reason someone is using Windows XP (hypothetically) even the XP installer with SP3 updates include has almost none (or none at all?) drivers for AHCI. Trying to run the XP installer wite the BIOS is set to AHCI will result in a BSOD of the installer. You either have to get the updated SATA controller driver on a floppy (which is the ONLY way the XP installer will accept it) and pre load it before installing XP, or you have to set the BIOS to IDE emulation, install XP, then update the driver and set the BIOS back to AHCI.

This is a case of ditching Windows XP before you get the SSD. For practical and technical reasons. No, you don't have to use AHCI but if you're doing a clean install, there's no reason not to use AHCI. It saves the hassle of changing to it within the registry later on.

That's what I though, and I agree about XP. Also I'm glad you understood that despite all the spelling errors ![]()

The package it came in says its only for testing and not for practical applications. Depends one what you mean by safe. Will it damage the system? My guess would be no. More that likely it could have firmware issues or driver compatibility issues that could cause issues for gaming. IMO, sell the thing on Ebay and put the cash toward a shiney new card. Not going to lie, I'd never heard this term before and had to Wiki it I'm not sure why you would be using this setup, but I would think the read/write speed to a virtual disk stored on RAM should the the same as it is for regular kernal memory. In which case the 'speed' would be dependent on the speed or the RAM itself (frequency), performance of the northbridge on the motherboard (all chipsets are not created equal), as well as the speed of the CPU.
