My laptop: Intel T6600 Dual core 2.20 GHz Mobility Radeon HD4650 4 GB RAM 24" monitor I play on lowest and get okay FPS for the first while of a game (40-60 FPS) but when lots of Zerglings show up, or just in general late game armies clashing, I can drop to 10-20 FPS. I, basically, have to play at 1680x1050 resolution, which is a 16:10 resolution (my monitor is 16 ) but every other resolution I choose either stretches slightly weird, or I have big horizontal bars. Would lowering my resolution and playing at a stretched one improve my FPS? I tried to test it in a replay but couldn't really tell much of a difference... Maybe 5 FPS in a big battle. Not worth it then, right? You should preferably play at your monitor's native resolution, and this shouldn't give you lines above or below. Resolution is entirely gpu dependant, and late game battles are basically entirely cpu dependant. You shouldn't have any change in fps on low after about 50 food, especially not in late game battles, from changing the resolution. Since you have adequate starting fps, your cpu is the problem later on.

Just downloaded the beta version of xsplit 6 last night to stream and ran across an interesting problem. Everything runs fine and smoothly but when I boot up SC2 I cannot seem to make any control groups. It is very vexing and makes the game unplayable for me. I tried turning off xsplit and then rebooting the game and sure enough I could make control groups again no problem. Rebooted xsplit and the problem returned. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Thanks in advance! Gl and HF! Edit: Found my problem after playing with Xsplit for awhile. There are apparently "Hotkeys" for xsplit for scene switches. All I had to do was go in and set all the hotkeys to "None" and now I can make my control groups with no problem! Hope this helps someone in the future!

Not worth it then, right? Depends on the game type and the engine. I haven't tested much with SC2, but I would think you are going to see an effect, as the greater the resolution you set, the more that your PC has to render. Have you tried 1366x768?

(gfx card is a 460 1gb) Yeah you plug it in and it works. It may not work well, however. The biggest concern is that most TV sets have relatively huge input lag compared to computer monitors. Think like 30-100ms. Of course this doesn't matter when watching TV, but if you're doing time-sensitive interaction with what's displayed, then it can be a big deal. Some sets may have something like a "game mode" or similar that may perhaps disable some of the image processing/enhancement functionality so the delay is reduced somewhat. It may or may not work well.

I'm building a new comp and the machine is running now but the monitor is saying that it doesn't have a signal... and yes, it is plugged in. It's all brand new parts (i5 processor, HD radeon 6870 graphics card, new psu, 500gb hard drive, new momma board, 8 gigs of ram) and we're trying to get it to run the windows install disc and the optical drive appears to be running, but the monitor has no signal, so we have no idea what's going on. Any help? Edit: Nevermind, we got it working with a different monitor...

What are mechanical keyboards and why are they better? People say equipment doesn't make the player better, but skill does. I agree to a certain extent, though I play at 10 FPS at best during 1v1 matches with Protoss. At which point the only thing I can do is make a deathball and A-move and hope for the best. So do they give better reaction times for when you press the keys or what? Is it worth spending a lot more money on a gaming keyboard? I seem fine using the one I have now (Link of keyboard below). Is my keyboard mechanical? And how do I tell? The one I use is linked below. http://red-planet-trading.amazonwebstore.com/eMachines-Black-White-PS2-Keyboard-Part/M/B003IR3DKG.htm?traffic_src=froogle&utm_medium=CSE&utm_source=froogle

Mechanical keyboards aren't cheap. I already looked at that entire thread. It didn't really answer it at all. For the latter answer I worded my sentence wrong I suppose. What I was trying to say is if the signal that transmits from the keyboard is sent quicker to the computer when using a mechanical keyboard, thus there is less delay between the keyboard and computer.

Your first question was "what are mechanical keyboards?" The answer is mechanical keyboards uses a real switch where you do not need to bottom out the key. Your second question was "why are they better?" and the answer to that is also part of the first answer. Not bottoming out a key means less fatigue and also faster typing. They also last longer and there's also various types of switches which will improve typing accuracy, satisfaction, comfort, and so on...
