So, i'm going to put up a computer for myself that can handle 5760*1080 on games like bf3, crysis 2, and future i guess demanding games? Also stream at 1080p for SC2
So this is gonna be a 3 months project, starting begining of next. Therefore i plan on getting ivybridge and standard hyper 212 evo for cooling. So these are going to be my questions.
Motherboard: I tought an MSI Z68MA-G45, i need a M-ATX mobo because i will moving with it relativly often to LAN + other travels possibly, and need a small case. Is there any better at it's price point ?
PSU: I hesitate between 3, but do not leave out other options, these are the one's i guessed would be best. Be quiet! PURE POWER CM BQT L8-CM-630w http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?adp=0&aid=50968&agid=1629&apop=0 Corsair TX-650M http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?adp=0&aid=50911&agid=1629&apop=0 Or Seasonic X-660 http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?adp=0&aid=30021&agid=1629&apop=4 I am wondering, is it worth the price difference? Noise not being too much of a concern, but the case after being one.
GPU : I thought i would probably go for crossfire HD 7870, twin frozr most probably for the extra cooling(360), windforce(340) or XFX BLACK DD(350) If just getting the cheapest is good as well i wouldn't mind, but heat will be a concern i guess... (sapphire available at 310)
Computer case : I would like the Silverstone TJ08-E. Basicly, i've read reviews of it, quite a few, all with only 1 gpu in it, heat was ok, but what about with 2 ? I could not find any. Son does it have enough space to crissfire? If yes, will heat be an issue? If it is, should i go with a pricier case, buy an extra fan/better cpu fan?
For the rest i'll be ok.

I think you're going to need a 750W to power crossfire 7970's... Could be wrong though as I haven't done any research on the power consumption of the new 7xxx series.
*edit, oops, mis-read your proposal, 650W should be absolutely fine for crossfired 7870's.
I'm not too sure on whether you need an ivybridge, i think a i7 2600k with a high end third party cooler such as the Noctua NH-D14 with extreme overclocking (4.8ghz - 5.2ghz) would suffice for your streaming 1080p'ing needs :D.
First of all, do you have the monitors already? Secondly, what's your budget?
Pretty sure crossfired 7950s can run 5760x1080 BF3 at max settings. This is all guesswork from me until someone more experienced comes along with an optimised build.
*Edit, not sure whether crossfired 7870's can run bf3 at the settings you want..

never said 7970, it owuldn't be out of my "budget" since i don't technicly have one, if the build costs me more then what i plan i will just have to go for a longer term project (would be able to put up to 1800€ over these 3 months)
and yeah i forgot to say, monitor and second card won't come just yet, i'll be adding them lhem on the later stages and cx 7870 should eb enoguh for bf3, i won't have crazy aa or anything as my eyes aren't the best and it would be a waste of money for me, otherwise i would make the project even more long therm and get cx 7970 (probably a good thing i got a bad sight then actually...)

Heat is always an issue for sticking two decent GPUs in a microATX configuration. The "extra cooling" open-air coolers you mentioned all don't work well in such an arrangement. If you're going to do it, you want case-exhausting (and loud) blowers.
I would consider something like single GTX 680 and a miniITX case instead. You're not going to need (high, or any really) CPU overclocks since at that high resolution, the GPU will be the more limiting factor.

Seasonic X660 is fully modular, one of the best 80PLUS Gold units available. Corsair AX is the same thing, just Corsair exterior and a seven year warranty, strangely it's less expensive at this retailer: http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=48788&agid=1629
Both the Corsair TXM and BeQuiet Purepower L8 are okay budget modular units. I'm guessing you are looking for modular? If you're not looking for modular than the Superflower Golden Green Pro would be a good choice: http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=38006&agid=1629
Since you are buying Ivybridge, there is no point in looking at current 6 series chipset boards as these will need a BIOS update for Ivybridge support. I can only think of the P8Z77-M Pro and the Z77MA-G45, not being good for Crossfire due to PCI-E x16 placement and the majority of 7870s have a custom open air heatsink.
Sapphire's Dual-X solution is good. I'm not sure if it would be worth it to be for Twin Frozr IV.

The thing is, i really want to be able to play in eye infinity in ultra graphics. I doubt any single GPU card is going to be able to do it? And stream in 1080p for sc2 so OC will be more or less needed (going for i7-3770k anyhow)
Also, I guess i could go for the Silverstone TJ04-E, it's still relativly small... But i trully want a M-ATX unless it is impossible to have a dual gpu solution without heat problems in one.
Are there any other cases you could advise?
And thanks Skyr i guess i will go with the corsair AX, i did not see it, and will also get one of those motherboards then, i got plenty of time anyways, i just wanted to start planning long time in advance so i could manage my budget nice and neatly.
Just one thing i noticed is that the P8Z77-M Pro and the Z77MA-G45 will have both GPU glued to each other, while the MSI Z68MA-G45 would not. Any other new gen mobo that would have the same space between the 2 PCIe slots?
|
I don't think there are any mATX Z77 boards that have the ideal PCI-E x16 layout for CrossfireX.
Have you considered Bitfenix Survivor, Lian Li PC-A05, and there's probably some other Lian Li cases as well.

What is your budget?
I'm not set on this, but I'm going to go for the most 'bang for the buck' that satisfy my requirements unless it becomes too expensive, which is unlikely. I'll go as high as ~$1200 for now for the rig alone.
What is your resolution?
I currently have a 1600x900 monitor, and I will look to buy a second monitor to use as a primary one. Later on I'll upgrade the current monitor I have probably.
What are you using it for?
I'll be gaming and streaming, and I want to be able to stream at high if not the quality I see it. My upload can probably handle it. I suppose I might encode videos, but unlikely going to really do anything intensive beyond gaming/streaming until I upgrade.
What is your upgrade cycle?
I'll say 2 years for now. I would basically want to snag up on deals as time goes on and upgrade continually.
When do you plan on building it?
I would like to buy my parts soon, say within two weeks. I've heard something is coming out soon (yeah real specific!) so if there are any drastic price changes, I'll wait.
Do you plan on overclocking?
This I am not so sure. I am quite computer-noob. I need advice here.
Do you need an Operating System?
I would need one but I have access to discounted ones through university or acquire it otherwise.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
I don't think this will be needed.
Where are you buying your parts from?
I do have a Fry's nearby that I can access nearly all the time; Microcenter is a bit far but I suppose I can go there once if I wanted any deals.
Other notes:
Games I'll be playing: BW, SCII, LoL, Dota2, and possibly GW2 + other games, which I haven't touched for some time. If there are interesting titles that come out, I'll be willing to play them, so I would like for those games to be able to run at least in medium setting, preferably high/highest + possibly stream them as well.
I want a SSD to boot OS from and to have games that I play the most on it. Then probably 1-3 traditional HD to cover my storage needs. I do like to store data a LOT so I'll want a healthy amount, let's say 5 TB for safety. Using them in RAID configuration increases speed right? So I'll be getting 2-3 internal HD. I currently have a 2TB Seagate external. However I heard that sata speed > usb speed so is there a way to make one of the HD external while still using sata so I can quickly transfer large amount of data if needed?
As stated earlier, a monitor, and possibly two if I get a good deal. Not sure how big I want it though, although I suppose it may be time to move on from 17 and 19 inch monitors? (I still have a 22inch CRT in storage far away though, lol).
Currently I have a Antec900 with following parts: e6750@2.66, 2x1gb ddr2 800, 8800GTS. I found the case to be a bit clunky to carry around though. I wouldn't mind using the same case, but if possible, use a smaller case. And if there are good ways to carry the desktop around (like a specialized bag with cushions that fits desktop + peripheries perhaps) that isn't exorbitantly priced I'll get one.
I do want a pair of speakers, if anyone has a good recommendation for a bang-for-buck ones please do so.
I also keep a ridiculous amount of tabs (20-60) open while browsing internet, which is a habit I'm going to fix eventually, but probably going to continue on for a while.
I want to keep using my keyboard that uses a ps2 connector (dt-35). There is a ps2->USB adaptor right? Or will I have to ditch this =[
I have limited experience assembling computers, basically watched someone assemble my old computer somewhat. But I should have help. I'll update on this for a later. Worst situation I'll ask friend of a friend for dinner or something.
Thanks for all the help, it's very appreciated. I went over the budget given that you need multiple HDDs >.> but I listed a cheaper / worse alternative for HDDs if you want to stay within budget. The alternative is you can get an eSATA / USB3 external instead of using internal HDDs. This is an overclockable configuration for $1298 before taxes and other applicable fees. I put emphasis on how hot those deals are so I'd suggest you jump on them right away if you are building soon before you miss out. You can get the Intel 520 for $170: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167093 if you miss out on the Samsung 830. The case has a handle and is rather small compared to some others so I guess this is what you're looking for? You can of course shop around for smaller / more mobile cases yourself on Newegg. Ah unfortunately I made a typo. I will be building this after two weeks so in about 2 weeks to a month. If those are really hot deals then how unfortunate =[
EDIT: Also thanks and happy birthday.

Is the Lian Li PC-A05b the same as the Lian Li PC-A05fn?
|
A05FN is the newer revision of A05B iirc.

Okidoki
Well, i like it, thx
Though i will probably want an ATX mobo now? What are my best options for this?
And therefore i should be able to dual GPU without any problem it would seem...
Though i might consider the Seasonic X-660 because of the PSU being in the front. How noisy would the Corsair AX-650 be?
|
Well there's going to be tons of ATX boards, I'm guessing you are looking at something rather inexpensive so I'm not sure what's going to exist down there at launch. I only know of the more expensive baords such as the P8Z77-V and Z77A-GD55
Corsair AX is just a Seasonic X, both of them use the same San Ace fan. It basically should be inaudible among the case fans and GPU fans.

Ok.
So to resume :
Case : Lian Li PC-A05 85€ PSU : Corsair AX-650 118€ HDD : 750gb 7200rpm 60€ SSD : Samsung series 830 128gb 150€ drive : random drive 15€
GPU : Dual-x Sapphire hd7870 *2 310*2€ CPU : I7-3770k 270€? Motherboard : some Z77 100€? Cooler : Hyper 212 EVO 27€ RAM : 2*4gb 1600mhz 38€
~1483€ over 3 months
thanks a ton for the help

P8Z77-V won't be that cheap, I did mention it was one of the more expensive options. It's probably going to be about 150€

Even $110 is not that out of place for that quality, for the Antec 1100. It's kind of big to be labeled a mid tower though.
If you don't mind something a little more garish, Zalman Z9 Plus should be okay, and it's selling really cheap: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=57910&promoid=1211
BitFenix Shinobi Window also comes to mind. By default it only comes with one fan, but that's enough for modern configs unless you're looking at something fairly extreme. You can always add more later.
|
Thanks for the fast replies!
@skyR: I might consider the Bitfenix Shinobi. The white looks cool since. =] @Myrmidon: Yeah I saw that case but it looks kinda weird imo. Guess I'll go with either the Antec or Bitfenix.
