2024-25 Off-season Community Weekly Cups Week of Feb 24 - Mar 2
by Wax
herO dealt the Clem dynasty a huge blow in the last week of February, besting the French Terran in two cup finals while achieving an overall triple on the week. Combined with herO's strong showing against Clem in the week before that, could we be seeing the balance of power finally starting to shift in the online cup scene?
The week began with herO snapping Clem's winning streak of four WardiTV Monday Cups in a row, eking out the the victory in a five game finals VOD). herO took his trio of map wins in three distinct ways, taking his first win by shutting down a risky drop with Phoenixes, surprising Clem with fast Carriers on El Dorado for his second, and finally closing things out with his favored Chargelot + Colossus/Disruptor macro style.
herO demonstrated his recent surge against Clem was not a fluke, taking a second consecutive cup win over Clem in the Monday Night Weeklies (VOD). The two players actually played three BO3 matches throughout the double elimination bracket, and while herO managed to win the deciding bracket reset final, the combined map score showed the two players to be evenly matched at 4-4. The games played in the MNW were a bit more macro-heavy than WardiTV Mondays, with herO leaning on the standard mass Chargelot + Robo composition to great success (he did mix in a timing with Archons and Immortals).
Usually, we see Clem retire for the night after the first two cups, leaving herO and MaxPax to scrap for the final win of the Monday cup trio. However, losing the first two cups seemed to give Clem some extra motivation, and he managed to avoid going winless on the week by winning the PiGosaur Cup (VOD).
However, Clem was unable to get revenge on herO, as the top Korean Protoss fell 1-2 to MaxPax in the semis. Thus, Clem had to 'settle' for a 3-0 finals win against his traditional Danish rival, with early game tactics swinging all three games.
The bi-weekly KSL returned for tournament #70, and herO took the opportunity to take a weekly triple (VOD). We got some rare PvZ action in a cup finals, with herO going up against the fearsome Dark. As with many past duels between the two, herO and Dark played an action-packed series with plenty of head-on fighting, with herO ultimately emerging with the 3-1 victory.

Probably left out because we're drowning in all his wins or top 3 finishes.

Wax has seen fit to break this rule before for monthly events.
hero? you mean the guy at the top of the game since 2013? goat contention? with the weakest race up until recently? THAT HERO? hmm... has any protoss been at the top for as long as he has? maybe Stats? herO maybe even longer. a triple in modern era when kr server seems kinda low pop seems especially surreal. dudes an anomaly. europeans have great practice vs every race with serral/clem/maxpax and herO probably gets very little practice since KR is relatively inactive hence why he is playing on EU with 200+ ping now.
