Really liking this build right now for a mid-range gaming pc. I was thinking about just waiting for Haswell but the deals seem to be getting pretty good:
Intel i5-3570k $189.99 (MC) ASRock Z77-Extreme6 1155-LGA (w/ bundling discount) $49.99 (MC) EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB $219.99 (MC) ($20 MIR) Crucial Ballistix Sport 2x4 DDR3-1600 $39.99 (MC) Samsung 840 250GB $140.99 (MC) Antec Neo Eco 520W $49.99 (Newegg) ($10 MIR) -- As a side note, MC's PSU selection/deals seem to be uniformly terrible at all times. Not sure why Newegg seems to always have better prices for power, and much better selection even outside of access to Rosewill. Cooler Master HAF912 $49.99 (Newegg) Cooler Master Hyper 212+ $29.99 (MC) ($10 MIR) Samsung DVD-RW SATA $17.99 (Newegg)
Total (pre-tax) $739.91 - $10 new shopper discount @ Newegg $729.91, with $40.00 in MIR on top as sugar
EDIT: For some reason I accidentally cleared after I put in CPU the first time, to explain adding error.
Just wanted to say thanks for helping me build PC!!!! Its running great!! Only thing i havent upgraded yet is my 460gtx cyclone 768 MB.... What is the most "cost effective" upgrade for the GPU? or do i not even need to go there yet :p I only play sc2, LoL, planetside 2. Altho, PS2 can get heavy. Would 660ti cover this?

I think a 7870 is the best "bang for your buck" gpu right now, but the 660Ti should perform a bit better if you want more performance than a 7870.

SC2 and LoL can both basically be run on a graphics card drawn on a napkin. Your 460 will max both out easily. Planetside 2 should be fine as well, though perhaps not on max settings. So honestly there's really no reason to upgrade if you want to save money.
Otherwise a 660 or 7870 would be fine. Currently I'd recommend a 660 just because they're a tad cheaper & sometimes a bit quieter. The 7870 has more overclocking potential if you overclock your GPUs though.
Hey, trying to upgrade a pre-built PC. Usually should do it, but I felt that it would save me loads of money over buying parts for a completely new one.
1920x1080, Gaming (SCII, LoL, Skyrim, Witcher II, maybe Crysis)
Budget $150-$180, but I can be a little flexible
Amazon preferred, since I have a $50 gift card but it will count towards my budget for Amazon only (so $180 for Amazon: $100 + $50 Gift Card; $180 for Newegg: $180)
Only thing I feel needs upgrading is the GPU, though I may have to get a new PSU (outside of $180 buget) as the PSU included was a generic one (might have to check, will open case tomorrow). I'm thinking HD7850 1GB, maybe the Sapphire or Gigabyte version unless the cheaper Powercolor/XFX edition is the same (I heard the cooling was worse for the XFX though).
EDIT: Case space on the inside might be a problem, but for now, act as if there's enough space (the case looks big enough from the outside).
For the PSU you'll want to find out the amperage on each of the rails. If you get the model # (normally on the side of back of the PSU), you should be able to look it all up. Normally that info is on the same label as the model #, though.

Question for myself:
Is it correct to say that I should opt for 7970s rather than a 7970 Ghz Editions if I plan to do my own overclocking?

As long as the cooling design is ok binning shouldn't be an issue, so yes.

What is your resolution? 1600x900
What are you using it for? Mostly gaming. I don't do photoshop or similar things. Streaming is a possibility but not a concern.
What is your upgrade cycle? 3-4 years
When do you plan on building it? I plan to order the parts as soon as the list is finalized.
Do you plan on overclocking? No
Do you need an Operating System? No
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No
Where are you buying your parts from? Newegg but this is mostly because I'm not sure what other good hardware sites are out there. If there's other stores you guy recommend I'm all for it.
I'd like to thank you all in advance for this. I've been stuck on this horrible little mini-computer for a while now and it'll feel good to have a good machine again.
Total: $847, not counting rebates or potential tax. Note that the video card might be a bit overpowered for your resolution, not that there's anything wrong with that.
(Adding the build for reference)
Ok, I got the parts a couple days ago and assembled it yesterday. The problem I'm having is that it will not run with both sticks of RAM; only 1. What happens is the computer will turn on for a little bit and then immediately turn off. I'm not really sure what's the specific thing causing the problem here.

Slots 1 and 3 is where you put the RAM Right?
The Blue Slots
Yeah, I checked and rechecked the motherboard and RAM manuals. The RAM is in the blue slots.

You stated the computer works with 1 Stick of RAM in, does it matter which stick of RAM is used?
Hi guys, recently my nVidia gts8800 broke. It would barely run Sc2, lags on 200/200 supply battles . I got quite tired, and the system is 5 years old so I made a shopping list. Any comments/tips/advice is welcome.

Antec Neo Eco 520C for $40 free shipping after promo code, before $10 MIR.
edit: case airflow and layout may not really be designed for 100W or so extra from a graphics card, but it should most likely be okay. Just test the system when you get the parts in.

Okay, sounds good. Size might be a bit too big though, lemme check.
The Bestec you linked is a ATX-size PSU, looks like the standard 140mm depth as well—retail ATX power supplies are the same height and width to fit the same screw holes, but they are often deeper to allow for more electronics and/or a modular connector board. Neo Eco (Seasonic S12II) is that size and is still only 140mm deep into the case.
In theory something could match the screw holes but interfere on the inside because of extra depth, say with an optical drive, on a lot of OEM desktop layouts.
