YoDa, B4, Gerrard arrested for match-fixing - Page 48
Forum Index > SC2 General |
Based on the official Police investigation, only the above players have been implicated in matchfixing. There is no reason to further accuse other players and teams until we get more information. Incessant blind accusations will not be tolerated. Please read the thread and the updates before posting. As of page 54 we will be moderating against match fixing accusations for players who were not caught in this incident, including those using voided Pinnacle bets as evidence.

Of course nobody who is on a good team and makes enough money will ever risk doing something like this. People who do this will always be in a shitty situation. They still have to suck it up and stop the progaming dream and work at a mcdonals or anything to make a living, instead of fucking matchfixing which could potentially destroy the scene that has given them everything. And somehow you think giving up your dream is a matter of "just doing it"? With the coach (probably nearest a father figure to many players) supporting and even encouraging the match fixing, it's not difficult to see the dilemma.

Who are the people they made money off? Throwing makes sense only when you are supposed to win. Especially B4. I mean, he played awful in almost every game and most of them apparently weren't fixed.

Well Gerrard was in an even more shitty situation. His dream of supporting a sc2 team, huge amounts of debt because of that etc..., just saying that everybody who does this is usually in a shitty situation. It's in those times when your true character shows.

Caught on a shitty team during a career downturn with retirement imminent, no interest from sponsors or other teams, no salary paid out - I can see why he felt pressured into accepting betting money ![]() I wish I could say the same. I've been a fan of his for a while and always hoped he'd find a way to get things turned around and I'm very sad it won't happen. I'd like to feel sorry and blame his situation or coach but ultimately he is responsible for his choices. I hope this discourages further match-fixing.

I used to work in a shop and would get hounded by the same kinds of customers regarding Lottery tickets, if one wasn't a winner I would just throw it away automatically as most people didn't want them, but some people thought that I was actually keeping winners and stealing money from them. The number of times I had to explain that winning £10-20 grand wasn't actually worth loosing my job and then finding it very hard to get a job going forward after been a caught and tried cheat (as cheaters very rarely win). And I see similarities with this situation. I feel sorry for Yoda and the other players involved because what they were saying by there actions was "this is how much I deem my career and future to be worth"... that's sad, really really sad.

The fact that the sc2 scene can't give every player a feeling of securtiy and what they deserver for their hard work is indeed sad. Hopefully things will get better and players will never have to think of something like this again. Sadly this case doesn't help sc2's developement :/.

People do bad things. That doesn't make them bad people. (Gerrard sounds like a piece of work, though, but I'm sure that even he, from his perspective, was the good guy trying to do the right thing.)

When did ByuN even last try to qualify for an offline tournament? His last GSL appearance was in 2013. I hope those players who knew about it, refused to participate in it but ultimately afraid to speak out about it are not harshly punished.
