Hot6ix, a Korean energy drink, will be the sponsor for all of the GSL touranments in 2014. They will also sponsor an 8-man, year-end tournament in the Hot6ix Cup as they did in 2013.
Hot6ix's first GSL sponsorship came in 2012, when Hot6ix sponsored the first GSL Season 1. In total, Hot6ix was the main sponsor for 4 GSL tournaments and 2 GSTL tournaments in 2012. In 2013, Hot6ix was the main sponsor for 1 GSL season and 1 GSTL season.
I don't quite understand this, i thought blizzard sponsors korea "wcs" too? Maybe i did not understand it correctly, but blizzard even said they rise the prizepool for korea? How does this fit in then?

I'd guess this helps pay for the GSL production costs (employees, studio, etc).

WCS EU has had sponsors too (and probably has some now too) in Roccat and others. I guess Blizzard pays a set amount and if GOM or ESL wants to raise production values or whatever, they can put in their own money or find sponsors.

Did monster cause redbull cause (this new company whos name im not familiar with) to start sponsering this industry, or is there something about energy drinks and esports that just goes together?
hot6ix is also sponsoring lol champions this season as well. their ever-so-always presence is appreciated, but how long can they keep it up for both games?

I think it's the latter. While I don't see it as much, I guess gamers = play a lot = use energy drinks = good idea to sponsor? lol.

Hotsix actually was sponsoring GSL before monster and redbull got involved iirc

If you mean about the year-end tournament, presumably it'll be the same last year where the 8 players qualified will be the finalists from each of the four tournaments during the year (presumably the 3 GSL seasons and the World Championship event).
Gotta love Hot6ix, most loyal sponsor GOM ever had. Don't forget aside from multiple GSL seasons, they also sponsored GSTL (and I think they separately sponsor Team MVP IIRC?)

I drink them now and then when I haven't slept enough. They're nowhere near as bad as monster etc. simply because the cans are much smaller. "So dangerous" is a bit of an exaggeration. How about 'mildly detrimental to health'?

Energy drinks are fine in moderation, like everything else. Coca Cola and Pepsi and McDonalds etc. sponsor all sorts of things as well and none of their products are particularly healthy. Granted energy drinks might be worse but only slightly.
All this BS about them being bad for you is ridiculous. No worse than drinking a coca cola and a coffee. If you don't have health issues, then there is no way anything will happen to you as a young person.
I just find energy drinks useless. It's like 20x weaker than coffee. But I tell my family to buy redbull and monster

Energy drinks are acidic and will corrode your teeth enamel. Take with moderation.

Hot6 is so addictive. I spent 10 months as an exchange student in Seoul, and they give cans away freely at the GSL studios. Now I'm desperate to find some back home in France TT
Dang, thats great news, Hot6x has been with the GSL now for ages, great to see. If it was sold outside Korea I'd totally be buying some whenever I have a craving for energy drinks.
I am quite surprised, that Hot6 is continuing with support of GSL. GSL viewership numbers show, that big percentage of their viewers are foreigners, therefore Hot6, a brand without global market presence, is wasting part of its money on viewers without ability to buy the product.

I dont think that koreans are watching on twitch.
And who knows, maybe Hot6ix is thinking about expanding their market. (Probably not, I mean we haven't seen a massive Pocari Sweat influx although I can at least find it sometimes in the US.)
