They'll almost certainly do what WCS EU did with missing challenger spots (Mvp moved up to Premier, LucifroN retired) and designate the "new qualifiers" with the most WCS points last year as "defending" challenger players (so they will play another of the newly qualified players).

Nazgul came out and said that he had a redic schedule and was worsening his wrist problems if I remember right. So with no guarantee on the upcoming format of WCS why play the match and risk injury? If this is true, then it's simply a problem with the system. Someone in the EU challenger played random because he didn't give a shit anymore since it meant little to nothing. If a match has almost no relevance, it's hard to convince the players to try hard for it unless they have a lot of pride. Though to MajOr, people tend to be kinder to players they favor more. :/ We just need to get you on Liquid and get you a bunch of top finishes in major tournaments. Idk. People definitely have a double standard for their more favored players.
It's an old problem, as old as sports itself.
The views of foreigners and Koreans are pretty different on this subject too. Exhibit a) Naniwa's Probe rush
Also, it's a sad truth that how much you like the the player(s) involved colors your stance too. No one here's hating on Taeja for forfeiting, but Painuser got strung up the gibbet for forfeiting NASL (he was winless with 2 games to go or something?).

Not really fair to compare TaeJa forfeiting Challenger to NaNiwa's probe rush. TaeJa forfeited an *online* match in advance of the match. NaNiwa "forfeited" an *offline* match that fans had come to see after already starting the game, thus (of course) making sure that all the attention was on him before he forfeited. If instead of probe rush he had quietly gone backstage in advance and told admins that he isn't going to play the remaining match because it's meaningless, it probably would have been still received poorly, but not AS poorly.

True, but people had started talking about players playing Random in meaningless games / poor game conditions, so I thought it was worth pointing out.
Also, a lot of foreigners thought that Naniwa should have just forfeit the match rather than proble rush, while my impression for the Korean scene is that anyone forfeiting in that position would have been unthinkable (although I could be wrong).
So, different situation, but one that I think captures the different attitudes foreign and Korean fans have towards meaningless games.

The empty challenger slots were filled with the next-in-line finishers from the Ladder Wildcard qualifier (http://www.esl.eu/eu/sc2/wcs/news/235726/). NASL earlier announced that WCS AM is using the same method.

Well its both what you said and what I said. You have to address both that there are now fewer players in total and that there are now more 'new' players than 'old' players to play against. I was talking about the latter. So now in eu challenger grubby for example is an 'old' player even though he just qualified.

I was really excited when I was proved correct after saying Taeja had superstar qualities in him. Now as a near-bonjwa after his record run this summer, we're going to see him crush some more face in WCS-NA. Good luck noble stallion, may your keystrokes be swift and precise. Near Bonjwa? Oh lol please just be fanboy hyperbole.... Okay near bonjwa might be an exageration, but July, Jaedong and Bisu were near-bonjwas in BW with ~5 championships a piece. Taeja has won that many in the space of about 6 months, at the least it is certainly an impressive achievement to be consistantly dominant like this. yeah, they do have 5 championships, but in premier Brood War tournaments, not some mickey mouse 2day events.

If we're counting only points in WCS AM Premiere and Challenger 2013, I counted Revival got 1550 and Taeja got 1450: Taeja: S1: 300 + 50 S2: 750 S3: 300 + 50 Total: 1450 Revival: S1: 1000 S2: 300 + 100 S3: 100 + 50 Total: 1550 Source: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2013_StarCraft_II_World_Championship_Series/Standings(Fun fact: Scarlett also had 1450 points by this measure.) That said, maybe NASL meant to say they picked the player from WCS AM with the most WCS points globally.
You're also forgetting about the Major tournaments that would've got them points

Because his chances of winning wcs am were that much higher and it's way cheaper for his team to have him compete in korea.

NASL worded it like only WCS AM points mattered, which is either false, TaeJa got the spot instead of Revival, or NASL simply does not give a shit and gave TaeJa the spot and hid it behind intentionally bad wording

this is TL.net forum, people here are hyped by TL.net writers, and Taeja plays for TL, it's kind of obvious that people on this forum are biased toward him...
it's how it is, the best of luck for you though!
