This logic perplexes me. How does injecting someone from another region better than almost everyone in the target region increase the competition? It is like having a college athlete sign up for a high school team and saying that will increase competition. This only works if you kick almost all the high school kids off the team and add more college players but then it is no longer a high school team... But all the WCS tournaments are open to everybody. The division that you're talking about doesn't really exist.

If a potentially washed up Korean is like a big league college player playing with high schoolers then that region probably shouldn't have a WCS, which is why Africa doesn't have its own WCS league. There are some good actual AM players to give the Koreans a run for their money though so this is a false analogy. Also high school isn't professional sports; WCS is professional esports.
There are some good high school seniors that would give college freshmen/sophomores a run for their money. And if you just want to compare "professional" sports, you could just adjust the analogy for college seniors and rookie NFL players.
Hell, if we even considered that there is no skill difference and just keep the analogy to 2 different college teams, the situation with WCS is just like having a student who didn't make the tryouts for his school, A, so he decides he wants to try out for another school, B, but doesn't want to change from his current school, A. Tough luck for that student.

It's WCS NA. It's for whoever is better at playing on the NA server. Maybe instead of complaining about playing WCS NA on the NA server, they could play WCS KR on the KR server. It's a deterrent, because it adds uncertainty to the game. I fully support even stronger deterrents against cross region play.
Simile: It's like joining a Chinese debate team and then complaining that they don't debate in English.
I think you're missing the point. This is a match in WCS NA yes - but it's between HerO and MajOr who are both currently in Korea. I think they both understand that they will have to play matches against opponents who are in NA on the NA server - but they are both in Korea so it's just imposing unnecessary lag on the viewers and players.
Your analogy is bad. It's like joining a Chinese debate league and complaining about having to debate the other US based team across a video chat that goes through China, and then back to the US instead of just debating them across the room and streaming it all to China at once.

If either of them played someone who resided in NA I wouldn't see the problem but when both reside in Korea it's honestly just meaningless annoyance.
Making them play on NA server is kinda just making them follows the rules for the sake of following the rules instead of there being any logic to the rule

I don't see what people don't understand. You want to play in NA WCS? Playing on NA shouldn't be a problem. If you're gonna try to farm what you see as a weaker area, you should have the dignity to not ask for them to accommodate the fact that you aren't actually from that region.
Its WCS America, not NA.

Wouldn't it be probably best to just have exceptions now (since everything's going haywire) and then immediately lock down on regions based on citizenship for the next season? Best to keep the show going, even if it is limping slightly.

I am fine with this.
If you compare with WCS Korea they are really flexible, to participate in that tournament, you have to meet up at the studio. I hope this is what they are aiming for with both WCS NA and EU. If you are in Korea, I don't see why you don't try the regional tournament - WCS Korea.
For SC2 as a sport, I hope this is the first step in getting a proper league in both NA and EU. Until now we have only had the GSL. The result has been obvious - Korea with it's team houses and tight-knit teams have done much better than NA/EU players.

This is absurd. If a EU player and a KR player signed up for the NA qualifier, would they be allowed then to play in KR? EU? Who decides? No, if you start allowing for these crappy exceptions every time they occur the whole league with fall apart. If you signed up for a NA tournament you should be expected to play on the NA servers regardless of where you or your opponent are from. Same for every other region.
I honestly cannot believe this is even an issue, especially since it was stated in the rules prior to signing up.

If you want to play in the wrong qualifier, you have to play with the lag that comes with that, even if your opponent happens to be in the same city as you on the wrong side of the world. This.

You think games are low quality, watch something else. This vocal minority elitism is what ruining SC2 for a lot of people.
Give people that want to watch local tournaments some space, without some idiots running arround crying "Low quality, how can you even watch this, lol". Nobody is touching your ability to watch Korean tournaments, right?

the only reason anyone wants two players living in KR to play on NA vs each other is to punish them, it's a pure and simple "fuck you," "koreans and mexicans taking our jobs so fuck you"
lol

they should be able to play on whatever server that allows them for best performance. no complaint if its na player in na and eu player in eu since there is no common ground. however if both player are in the same region, why should they not play on the server with least amount of latency?
its clear mlg didnt think of latency and just went by region priority.
its a hindsight, not great planning and should be adapted to provide best services to players and viewers.
my biggest grief with lack of lan is the extra latency that adds to progaming when the organizers/developers should try to provide the best competitive environment. maybe i'm the odd one out thinking this way and shit load of people just dont give a single fuck on latency.

Wait, were the rules about the region-server rules clearly stated a reasonable time before the tournament? How come nobody on the management of TL read the fine print and caught this before the tournament started?
If the rules were created beforehand and the management group failed to understand all of them and organize complaints before the tournament got underway, that's pretty poor on TL's part and weakens MajOr/HerO's proposition based upon prior agreement of terms.

I agree with MLG on this.
This is not Korea 1 vs Korea 2 vs Korea 3. It's NA vs KR vs EU.
You want to play in NA, you should play on the damn NA server. In fact, you should be happy that they don't make it a requirement that you have to LIVE in NA to play in WCS NA.

And the day the Ro16 of WCS america is filled with only Korean, they gonna make the live event happen in Korea no ? Since they are all there why bother them with making it in America.

You wanna play in WCS NA? Then you gotta follow the rules. Go to NA or deal with ping.
