"@8th_MajOr so @MLG is going to make me play my matches on NA server vs liquidhero i wonder who came up with such bullshit we both live in korea atm .."
According to MajOr's tweet, he and HerO will have to play their WCS America matches against each other on the NA server, despite the fact that they both reside in Korea. While it would be an even playing field for both players since they would both deal with the lag of playing from KR to NA, the overall quality of play would undoubtedly be affected.
While that's probably technically correct if you're following the rules of the tournament to the letter, it's a remarkably inflexible decision.
It degrades the WCS tournament by knowingly allowing the level of competition to be lowered, is a discourtesy to the players who want to be able to fully show the skills they have honed through hundreds of hours of practice, and is a disservice to the fans who are expecting the be shown the highest level of gameplay possible.
When you consider that region switching is even built into the HotS client, then it's an even more confusing and perplexing decision. Hopefully both players have protested and have had the decision changed.

Maybe instead of complaining about playing WCS NA on the NA server, they could play WCS KR on the KR server. It's a deterrent, because it adds uncertainty to the game. I fully support even stronger deterrents against cross region play.
Simile: It's like joining a Chinese debate team and then complaining that they don't debate in English.

Hey, Sundance apologized and said MLG would fix these problems. Are you calling him a liar?!

I'm gonna say that their decision is fine and consistent with Blizzard's stance on regions. Although it makes sense, NA players should be treated as in NA region.

I'm fine with this. Its an NA event, and is thusly played on the NA server. Part of this was to discourage people who didn't want to deal with the ping.
So they are keeping to the rules. I think that's fine and acceptable.
They want to compete in WCS NA. They have to play on NA server, regardless if they have better ping on Korean server.

I can understand though. Rules are rules.
|
Well this just follows how WCS NA has been run from the get go; inflexible with no leeway for any situation. Really disappointed with the constant crap coming from WCS NA.

Good.
If you want to play in the wrong qualifier, you have to play with the lag that comes with that, even if your opponent happens to be in the same city as you on the wrong side of the world.
|
I agree with MLG's decision. It's WCS NA. They chose NA, they should play on NA.

Rules are made by people. People are supposed to be intelligent enough to know when the rules should apply.

It's WCS NA, not "WCS NA, as played on KR". I see no problem with this.

But one of the goals for Blizzard was that there would be this mix in players, they don't want deterrents.
Also your simile suggests that Korea and NA are equal in terms of playability. They are not. It's more and English debate team complaining about only being allowed to use four-letter words

THis. A hundred times this. Hero, in my opinion shouldn't be competeing in WCS NA, nor should many of the koreans. Just stifling the NA scene. (inb4 but NA SUX LOLROFLOMGHAXORS). Making it even MORE difficult for NA players to continue to pursue a professional gaming career, doesn't help the international growth of SC2 at all.

lt's WCS NA so it should be played on the na server.

Totally respect MLGs decision. If you wanted to play without lag Major you should have signed up for KR not NA. Anyhow, Hero is gonna have the same latency issues.
