If when selecting a region, both players were aware of what server they had to play their games on, why did they pick the NA region? I respect MLG's decision here because allowing them to play on the KR server would set a precedent for other players in the league. The rules are quite clear and I see no reason why they should be flexible in this case. If these players knew their play would be impacted by latency, they should have chose a region that would allow them to compete without weights in their boxing gloves.
If at first you don't succeed, redefine the parameters for success.

It's part of the fact that your playing in WCS NA. not WCS KR.

That's idiotic. What advantage is there to making them play on the NA server? None. All it will do is reduce the quality of the games.

It's their choice. Also, the rules. People complain about it not being complete region lock, and when they lock the region people play, people continue to complain.

Obviously people complain when they have different opinions. That's like pointing out that even though people cheered when Real Madrid scored a goal, they also cheered when Barcelona scored a goal. Just because in both cases it was "people" doing the cheering or complaining doesn't mean the groups are the same sets of individuals.

No one has presented a reason for this to be on NA that makes the least bit of sense.

Are you kidding? The reason is it's a NA tournament.

You are giving way too much credit to the best game possible. We can find better games in ZOTAC VODs. WCS NA is interesting for an entirely different reason.

People who are arguing against 2 players in Korea playing on the Korean server are literally insane. What does playing on the NA server do for the match other than just provide a handicap to both players? Cross server being forced to play on NA is perfectly acceptable, arbitrarily enforcing NA server because it's WCS NA is stupid.

Their match, as mentioned earlier by heyoka and waxangel, is essentially in a vacuum because the server that they play on doesn't affect any of the other players. Of course vs the other people in the group they're going to play on NA, I don't see any problem with that - it's WCS NA so of course it should be on that server. But to force them to play with high latency just for that? It's ridiculous.

well I've enjoyed how a topic about how MLG has an obligation to offer the most competitive environment and highest level of games possible to the viewers had turned into a thread where people complain about Korean players being allowed to play in NA and wanting them to be punished in whatever way shape or form.
AdministratorHey HP can you redo everything youve ever done because i have a small complaint?

This is silly.

If you want to maintain the 'NA' part, by all means go that way. If you're going that route don't INVITE HerO to your tournament, and then make him play on Kr, fuck sake.

pretty sad that MLG would do this..... it's only logical. I'd rather see top level play than some disgusting 1v1 both lag. Sometimes esports tournaments make such bad decisions I wonder if anyone is even a fan or knows what happens. They should maybe ask someone... I have a friend who worked for a website which would host tournaments and he never watched starcraft in his life but he at least had the sense to ask people who did for advice. If they were to ask even 1 pro they would say the smart thing.

this only hurts the players and fans.

Because it sets the clear standard that if you want to play in WCS NA, you play on the NA server. The effect of the region locking is already questionable but I'm all for making it as obnoxious and inconvenient for people outside the region to play in what seemed to be region specific tournaments. In other words, I'm okay with both Major and HerO having to deal with lag if the final result is them reconsidering choosing a region other than their own to compete in.

I actually support this, it further punishes people for playing outside of their home region. Such a choice should be at a personal deficit, as it encourages home competition.

The only people it punishes are the viewers, who get to watch top players play safe and possibly boring games due to risk of lag. One of them is going to advance regardless, why not have the highest possible quality games? Makes no sense given how trivial it is to switch regions in HotS.

MLG can't win.
If they allow KR server play, people will blame them for ruining the "NA WCS" for not being NA friendly etc etc.

I completely understand why MLG doesn't bother responding to most of these drama-esque complaints, unless they hit critical mass.

What are you talking about? They just want to play using the KR server at whatever time MLG wants. Nothing changes except just connecting to KR server for the matches where both players are living in KR instead of NA. Or if both players had been in EU for Dreamhack then both use the EU server for that specific match. Nobody loses anything and in fact we get better quality games since there is less lag between the players. I just don't get why people are for this other than "rules are rules".

Then let the games be played in the NA server to select the one best at ADAPTING to playing in NA server, for the viewability of all the subsequent matches.

Wax, I hate to diasgree with you but Blizzard wants to incentivize Korean players to actually physically move elsewhere. I don't see requiring NA server play to be that unreasonable of a requirement given their stated goals.

Advantage to play on KR when both are in korea: less lag/delay
Advantage to play on NA when both are in korea: "i'm following a rule so i can sleep at night thinking i'm doing something good..."
