if i was in rain's situation, i would have handled it differently(as in plan much more ahead) but i think mlg has a much bigger appeal than gsl, its something different.
money does not matter(he is a kespa player, not esf. good bonus but i'm 100% sure kespa player's biggest motivation is not prize money). as for atmosphere, foreign tournaments tend to be better and i think a lot of korean pros would like to experience it. its a short 3day(?) tournament vs a whole league. he can finish this mlg, go back and focus on pl and other tournaments like wcs, it'll definitely be less headache than trying to schedule everything around pl and gsl (though i do not know if they overlap).
make sense tbh.
as for pitchforks, put em down, they're not needed.

I could show those probabilities and respective payouts, but you can't get paid for multiple places in MLG. Actually I think the same holds true for GSL so I will have to change those figures. The problem with expected value is it doesn't consider the indirect financial and non financial gains. MLG opens up to a much wider international audience and also potential partnership/sponsorships with foreign companies that GSL would not otherwise do. Also without accounting for expected utility, expected value is worthless because money has diminishing returns. And considering the player's desire to play abroad, that would weigh heavily in his utility from participating in MLG. The world doesn't revolve solely around numbers. Right. So let's apply a utility function for each tournament. Like you said, Rain probably receives a higher Utility from a foreign tournament for obvious reasons: potential sponsorships, int'l exposure, more entertaining crowds, personal reasons, time, etc. Utility Functions: GSLE(U) = 1.0 x Expected Payout E(U) = 1.0 x $1,456 = $1,456MLGE(U) = 1.3 x Expected Payout E(U) = 1.3 x $5,895 = $7,663$1456 vs $7663
GSL <<< MLGThese numbers assume that Rain puts a 30% premium on foreign tournaments vs Korean tournaments. So, assuming Rain does prefer Foreign events over Korean events, then he should DEFINITELY choose MLG over GSL, given the expected payouts and expected utilities. PS -- the world does revolve around numbers
If anyone believes these numbers you should be slapped, all those probabilities are just guesses. If he loses MLG and doesnt make any money than people are going to be like, "TOLD YOU SO, HE SHOULDNT HAVE GONE", but if he wins MLG than its a different story, "HE MADE THE RIGHT DECISION". We all just have to wait and see what the result of MLG Dallas is and then everyone will know if he made the right choice or not.

He still has Blizzard WCS finals which is a butttttttttttttttttloadd of money to be won . I dont think he cares about gsl this season. seriously doubt this is RAin's personal decision because as a professional this is seriously unprofessional to back out of Code S like this for MLG open bracket. I dont think he would risk damaging his reputation like thisunless he was forced to do so by KESPA. People who are given Code S spots need to sign some kind of contract where they are fined if they cant participate in a match. this is not about wanting to experience abroad and all this bullshit that ppl are spouting. he could do that at any other time. this is about ruining the credibility of GOM's tournament. if ppl are jus dropping out like this, whose going to take GOM seriously anymore.
Ofc it is not 100% his own decision, pros are pros, they are told what to do by boss.

If it's Kespa's decision then we'll see in very short time what this is all about, but if this is Rain's decision than he's a chicken (cause i can't really find a reliable reason behind this decision). Non the less this is probably Kespa's decision and really soon i think we'll see a boycott between Kespa and Esf which will last couple of years and this might not be that bad.

It's a bad call but whatever. gonna be interesting to see if he can do the impossible. gl

I don't blame Rain for wanting to do a foreign event, he's going to get treated like an A-list celebrity and who doesn't want that Hell, I'd fanboy it up if I was going to be there.
That said, I'm really disappointed one of the other Kespa players didn't get a seed in his place. Walkovers are stupid, I pay for a certain amount of content and I expect that amount to be delivered. There's no way in hell somebody wouldn't take a shot at Code S, if they can give Soulkey a spot why not JD or one of the other popular Kespa players?
|
How unfortunate, he was in my opinion the best KeSPA player in Code S.

Srsly fuck this shit. I paid 15$ for NOT watching Rain. God now I really hate him and MLG and ofc Kespa (and I am in his fan club lol, maybe I should sign the outta there)

They had less than two days notice. The Current GSL season started 9 days before Rain informed them that he would not play.

Did you guys not read the article ? It says the decision comes from SKTelecom, not Rain or Kespa. In SKT the guys who have the power to decide that are their head coaches. Why the hell should we complicate matters ?

You are seriously not a fan of rain, if just because of this, you bail out.

prob been said 100x already but kespa is partnered with MLG. Rain has to choose between GSL and MLG. He has obligations to attend MLG over GSL.
doubt it was much more than that.

Scheduling conflicts happen, not a big deal

If that's true I love it. Could it be revenge of Boxer versus ESF for what they did to Slayers?
