As emotionally invested as people are on this topic, TL rules still apply. That includes flaming and ad hominem attacks. |
Private conversation is a non-issue. If someone posted logs of all my old private chats on IRC/AIM etc., I'd look pretty foolish as well. I'm pretty sure any current figure in esports would be embarrassed by shit they've said if you go back into the mIRC archives and private clan channels etc.
Can anyone tl;dr this controversy? I know destiny's dick got on twitter, is that because it was hacked? Did he send his dick pics to someone or did he just have dick pics on his phone, got hacked, got uploaded? I'm a little fuzzy on that and can't research well enough at work..
Also, destiny had sex with mia rose, and 'sexts' with other women but I thought he had a gf/wife and a kid? Are they broken up or is it some sort of option relationship? No judgements unless he's been cheating, cheating is for fucks.

I genuinely don't understand the people defending Destiny at this point.
To me it's the same as the people in whatever community it was defending those guys and coaches who were sexually harrassing and making comments at that girl gamer. Regardless of privacy and if it was okay, or sponsors and which ones were okay and which ones weren't and if people messaging sponsors is a problem because you genuinely think it scares sponsors away or if they just don't want to be part of such a community (note: either crybaby community that creates such drama about stupid things, OR a community full of such people that do such stupid shit in the first place (not the people, the players themselves))...Why do you continuously support and defend someone who continuously stirs up and causes so much shit? There is nothing positive that he contributes to the starcraft scene.

Ah, so one of the largest groups of people who e-mailed sponsors were almost entirely uninformed on the subject and were not at all part of the community that destiny is part of, yet they see it fit to vengefully attempt to end his career, except of course it harms a legitimate team in the process.
I have no further comment.

There's a video on youtube where CatsPajamas interviews Bluetea and Destiny......
so this is the girl who got pissed off and released pics of his dick???

I have no sympathy at all for Destiny, he's made a career out of pushing the limits of decency and common courtesy. Props to him for making it work (this fiasco much like past issues will probably just increase his viewership), I just wonder when it will start affecting his personal and family situation. While he's now teamless I doubt this will have anything but a positive effect on his streaming revenues.

unfortunately streaming will be all he has if he keeps on this road

I wouldent of kicked him out

Sometimes I just can't believe people would do this bull I think more people just hate Destiny more than anything and incidents like this might just crush the scene in the future. or maaaaaaaybe people will stop behaving like destiny does? just a thought Honestly, the person who leaked the conversation is more of a dick than Destiny (pun not intended). I'm sure plenty of nerds can't relate, but there are many of us who share nude pictures of girls with our friends in confidence.
That's crossing a line for me, because doing that breaks the trust and privacy of the girl being exposed. Plus, there's the golden rule: I wouldn't like a girl sharing nude photos of me to her girlfriends, so I wouldn't do the same to her.
However, we've all done stupid shit before. I don't know that sharing nude photos is really so damning as to impel writing nasty letters to Root's sponsors about Destiny's behavior. On the one hand, well, it's possible that Destiny's personality really is personality and he deserves to be fired from Root. But I don't know him personally, and this is hardly enough evidence to claim that Destiny is a bad person. The chatlog? High school level guy talk with sharing of shallow opinions over physical beauty.* Calling a girl "hideous" isn't a nice thing to do, but hey, it might just be a mean truth. Not a big deal, and it's not like calling a girl "bitch," at least not in my book.
On the other hand, well, maybe Destiny did dig himself into a bit of a hole (I've never had a scorned girl share nude pictues of me to the public), a hole made bigger by the fact that he is a public figure in a career where, unfortunately, PR matters. So maybe he did "have it coming" to some extent... maybe not. Regardless, sucks that you had to split with Root. I guess try to be more careful with passwords in the future, or something, I don't know.
And seriously, sharing nude photos is an asshole thing to do.**
* At least, that's what it seemed like to me after skimming it. I am not about to read the thing, for fear of being bored out of my mind ** Which doesn't mean you ARE an asshole, if that makes sense. Everyone's probably been an asshole one time or another (apologies to those really nice people that just got generalized), doesn't mean you're a horrible person. Just try to be nicer next time! =)

Really disappointed in Root. I guess esports is really about bending over for sponsorships and losing all your personality, though.
Remember, kids: you're only allowed to do what you want if you're on a streamed talk show that thrives on contrived drama. Anywhere else is strictly off-limits!

Who is Destiny? He shouldn't be bothered by this situation anyways, he should be bothered by not showing good results.

this situation is roughly this: any one of you non-RL-losers sitting at a caffe with two friends, talking and having fun, and then you show a naked picture of a girl that has the hots for you and gave the picture willingly. so you joke some more, finish your latte and move on with your life. only thing is, the girl has a bug on you, hears the whole thing, and decides she can ruin your life because she didn't like what you said.
grow up, lady. this is some serious stalker bullshit going on. so what he commented on your pictures with friends? don't give naked pictures to a married man in the first place, then you have no problem. hacking someone's skype and email for vengence is doing for you what exactly? if he had posted your pictures on reddit, go ahead, post his dick for the whole internet to see. otherwise, get a clue about life...
such unnecesarry drama Agreed. I dislike Destiny for his personality, the majority of his views and a lot of other stuff. But I share a lot of stuff with my close friends which could get me/them in trouble if it's leaked (talking about female friends/acquaintances would be the least of those problems). That woman from Destiny is crazy - reassures my opinion about women on the internet. Drama whores. i also dislike Destiny, but for other reasons, perhaps somewhat subjective views of mine that he doesn't deserve so many stream viewers, etc. but this could happen to any one of you guys, at least to the people that have some form of RL. i mean, what the hell did she expect? i know girls who wont let their boyfriends for 2+ years take such pictures. and to top it off, he didnt even distribute it on the internet. she's the one that fucked him over, and did the immature thing. how can so many of you just out of blind hatred for destiny defend her and even call her the victim is beyond me. imagine if a crazy stalker lady messed with your emails and skype. there is a thing called privacy. fucking respect it. I don't think she would have responded so negatively if he didn't have an extremely insulting conversation about the pictures afterwards, and then ignored her when she confronted him. Its not really about the nude pictures (although it might have had some effect). I think after trash talking her so badly its not really so unforgivable or unreasonable to see her lash out this way. I mean I agree that in hindsight she probably did to Destiny something a lot worse than what he did to her (depending on how much Destiny cares about his penis pics being on the internet), but its understandable after you read the chat logs. Just because guys can do it in private and normally get away with it doesn't make it okay (not saying you think that, but I figure that's the attitude some people have) She cost him his job basically...>_> And I don't really see what was wrong with the conversation Destiny had with TTone and Fayth.... Her response was not even remotely proportionate...>_> Please, stop being a drama queen about this and overreacting. Destiny, didn't lose his "job" because his job is streaming and not Root. Has his streaming been affected by any of this? I'd say no and that the controversy caused him to gain more fans than lose because this is what destiny is about and what made him popular in the first place. It's been proven time and time again, that destiny doesn't need a team, nor relies on a team for any income because streaming has always been his main source of income. All a team can do for him is fly him to events, but he doesn't rely on tournament winnings, nor exposure at events in the first place. Destiny hasn't really been affected by this at all, other than not being on root, which he didn't need in the first place. If at the end of the day if destiny's stream hasn't been affected, which I believe it hasn't, then this hasn't hurt destiny at all and it's business as usual for him. If the team didn't benefit him, he wouldn't be on it. The fact that she cost him whatever it is that the team gave him, that he obviously wanted/needed, is ridiculous.

tl;dr version would be
she gives him the naked picture he shares it with Fayth and TT1 in a private skype conversation someone (probably her, because she had his password) leaks the conversation she gets upset, changes password on his email and skype, and leaks his penis pictures for the whole internet to see he doesn't leak her naked pictures, gets thrown off ROOT

Destiny is a controversial person, I enjoy watching him play, but not really his attitude.
I respect him as a player, but I don't judge that based on his attitude.
Destiny shouldn't have done what he did. Even in personal conversations, a public figure ought to be discreet.
The girl should not have done what she did, potentially hurting his career, income, and future opportunities.
ROOT's manager's made a call, it's their decision and their team; if it's their judgement, then it's okay.
All in all, a lot of people were at fault, and ROOT should not be faulted, it's their call.

Any talk about whether or not people have been emailing sponsors is purely speculative, from what I understand. Do we know for sure that Destiny was cut loose because people complained to sponsors? I haven't seen any proof.
It's convenient to blame Destiny's problems on this mysterious group of people who are supposedly running to sponsors at every chance they get, but I think it's an incredible leap to go from "Destiny was removed from Root" to "Destiny was removed from Root because of a widespread conspiracy that got him fired because they contacted Root's sponsors."
For all we know, this was a preemptive release from Root before sponsors caught wind of what was happening.
Again though, we're working off of conjecture and speculation, so who knows what the whole situation is. (But that won't stop people from making assumptions.)

You reap what you sow. If he shared pictures of some girl naked, which were presumably sent in confidence, he deserves everything he got.
