As emotionally invested as people are on this topic, TL rules still apply. That includes flaming and ad hominem attacks. |

offtopic: you can find funny bluetea memes all over the net. No I won't show them here, you have to respect the rules
Also Destiny will probably get pussy from this affair. "He" was sent to several thousand people afterall, surely some girls liked what they saw.
It surely won't effect his training in the MoW house. I cannot imagine anybody giving a shit there, so everything on the gaming front is fine. In some weeks nobody will talk about it anymore. Things will surely go on for Destiny.

It's a Hard Ending for Destiny.

All these people should be banned from everything and forced to work at real jobs. Obviously when you're in espoarts you're on the clock 24/7 right?

At least not this time. I think it's just people who hate him with a passion and want to see his career burn to the ground; people who probably didn't bother to read both sides of the story or try to comprehend what they read in the first place. And it's those people who will eventually ruin eSports because they don't bother checking facts (at least the facts that are available anyway) before sending a feedback message to sponsors. And they're only a vocal minority too, it probably wouldn't be as bad if those of us who are lazy (myself included) messaged sponsors thanking them for the support of this scene that we love so much.
This is exactly right... and it's gotta stop... It's not just regarding Destiny himself but any "starcraft figure" who steps into the spotlight for the wrong reason... A few people have posted in the thread before about this, it was apparently not the SC2 community this time. http://www.reddit.com/r/ShitRedditSays/comments/ytijd/effortpost_starcraft_2_player_steve_bonnell_aka/c5yukxkFeminists on reddit found out and launched a sponsor-emailing campaign. While judging quickly and harshly and not knowing that by emailing the sponsors they harm the whole team, not him. So this time, it was a combination of feminists and die hard destiny haters like mellamosatan. Ah, so one of the largest groups of people who e-mailed sponsors were almost entirely uninformed on the subject and were not at all part of the community that destiny is part of, yet they see it fit to vengefully attempt to end his career, except of course it harms a legitimate team in the process. I have no further comment. Some of those people are part of the community...
This leaves two options:
1) They are part of the community and understand the implications of contacting sponsors en masse, but do not care: They are destructive and have no place here.
2) They are part of the community, but do not (somehow) understand the implications of contacting the sponsors of a team en masse: They are ignorant.

Number ONE is Catz.
I remember Catz back from the days of beta. He spoke out, about the need to foster smaller communities first, grow things gradually, and in this fashion give new faces a chance to stand out before they face off against the world. People didn't believe in him, only cared about thrusting everyone against Koreans and get their souls destroyed before even getting a chance to prove themselves in the smaller scenes.
And you know something? Catz was proven absolutely right.
What he did here, was show his leadership skills and willingness to take the blows head on. For this I say we need more people like him.
Number TWO is Destiny.
Destiny, we should honestly be able to see, are two people in one. Destiny the SC2 entertainer, and Steven Bonnell the real life person. If you seperate the two and just treat Destiny as the entertainer, personally I feel the biggest objections raised against his style would be all but nullified. He is performing the job of entertaining, putting on a show. Perhaps the only thing that might help, would be somewhere on his stream that says "all statements expressed within are fictional and do not represent the views of Root, Destiny, or any Sponsors herein".
Then there's Steven the human being, who is trying to provide for a son he dearly loves, and faced in a difficult relationship with the mother of his child. When you look around in the different threads, you will find scores of different people who actually met Steven in person, and shook his hand. He comes across as a fella who is very unlike his entertainer persona, and a very nice guy to interact with.
Number THREE is BlueTea.
I do not have enough information on her, aside from only breadcrumbs gathered by this incident. However sharing of the pictures...the follow up actions...without some more extensive detective work we cannot know if she was the one who logged into an already insecure Skype, access to logs of the chat, etc. Revenge has made the situation worse for all concerned. It is a huge downer that things even had to happen this way. Everything that's been said about safer computing and being diligent on password changes has been stated already by others.
Great post!

he didn't share the pictures.
people that don't bother even reading the OP should get banned, honestly. this isn't reddit.

All my support for both Destiny and Root. Perhaps one day he will return as Major did. Either way, I'm in it for both of them. ROOT4ROOT.

It's convenient to blame Destiny's problems on this mysterious group of people who are supposedly running to sponsors at every chance they get, but I think it's an incredible leap to go from "Destiny was removed from Root" to "Destiny was removed from Root because of a widespread conspiracy that got him fired because they contacted Root's sponsors."
For all we know, this was a preemptive release from Root before sponsors caught wind of what was happening.
Again though, we're working off of conjecture and speculation, so who knows what the whole situation is. (But that won't stop people from making assumptions.) Apparently some feminists or something from another reddit caught wind of it and started emailing the sponsors or something as well.
All though I can't remember where I read that so it could be nonsense.

To me it's the same as the people in whatever community it was defending those guys and coaches who were sexually harrassing and making comments at that girl gamer. Regardless of privacy and if it was okay, or sponsors and which ones were okay and which ones weren't and if people messaging sponsors is a problem because you genuinely think it scares sponsors away or if they just don't want to be part of such a community (note: either crybaby community that creates such drama about stupid things, OR a community full of such people that do such stupid shit in the first place (not the people, the players themselves))...Why do you continuously support and defend someone who continuously stirs up and causes so much shit? There is nothing positive that he contributes to the starcraft scene.
Because the StarCraft community is just too unforgiving, to the point where people's careers can be destroyed on the stupidest shit. In other industries, if stuff like this occurs, it barely hits a blip on the radar. It's irrelevant and it's quite hilarious. However, in such a volatile industry like e-sports, when you have people running the scene without the aura of invincibility that celebrities have, it's very easy to lose their positions because of dumb decisions. We, as a community, need to realize that the people on top aren't as perfect as we'd like to see them as. We need to see our players, our casters, and our entertainers as mere human beings as in they make mistakes. We can't just crucify someone for ladder rage or sharing nude pics in private. It's stupid. People should be crucified for pissing off teammates or refusing to work as hard as they should. Stupid stuff that people do in private are none of our business and should not cause someone to get fired. I'm sure other known people in the community do stuff like this all the time. Should we fire them all?

Because Destiny's not the one stirring up the shit...?
It's all the commentary around his actions that stir up the shit That was my point.. if people just relax and take things for what they are then there'd be no need to waste our time discussing it...
Everyone has had a stupid conversation at some point in their lives.. probably a shitload in fact, a shitload of conversations that you wouldn't want made public... but here, one has been made public and we should respect that it was never meant to be seen. It's not even important.. it's just a bunch of guys talking shit. It's as simple as that.
I mean it seems to me that the verdict, according to TL and Reddit is: Progamers: No longer allowed to talk shit with their friends. (for fear of having it ruthlessly exposed)

It has always, and continues to, amaze me how rabid this guys fanbase is.
I mean, the guy continues to get involved in all kinds of terrible shit and then goes on his stream and tries to tell people how to be a good person. Like, dude, practice what you preach. Maybe if you acted like half the person you tell other people to be you wouldn't have had any of this crap happen to you. I'm honestly not sorry for him.
For those trying to defend him in this incident I have a few questions for you:
1) I see a lot of people hating on the girl for what she did, and saying "oh it's no big deal what Destiny did to start it". Why is it okay what destiny did but not what she did? He violated her trust by sharing her naked pics with his friends and so she violated his by using his passwords to show people his naked pictures. They are the same thing.
2) How do you like a guy that threatens to have a girls' scholarship revoked and fired from her job? Like what the fuck dude? She posted a picture of your penis, so fucking what. If you didn't want people to see it don't take a god damn picture of it. Also she did nothing to mess with your livelihood so on what grounds do you have to fuck with hers? And even if you can somehow argue that she did mess with your livelihood, then you started it and you should live with the consequences.
ROOT did the right thing letting him go. It's a guarantee that he will get into some other kind of stupid shit that becomes public within the next few months.

Damn thats a nasty scar Destiny has on his stomache. Is that from appendicitis? Ouch.
But most importantly? Where are the pictures of this girl????
|
Well this was expected.I dont see any team picking him soon.
|
Umm the one thing I don't get is if it was only a couple people in the chat. Then someone aside from destiny had to snitch on him. Assuming they are all friends (i dunno but if it was only fayth and tt1 in the chat) fayth, tt1 and whoever else may have been in the chat what the hell were they doing snitching on their own friend/teammate which would only cause horrid publicity for their team. I wouldn't want a backstabber for a friend or teammate like that regardless of what the morality of the conversation/pics traded is considered. Sheesh man can't trust anyone these days
|
Honestly, the picture sharing and conversation would have happened in 90% of male friend circles. It's so incredibly common that 90% of males downtalking the fact that the conversation itself happened are hypocritical.
I'm not sure how this got out to a ton of people, but if this was a leak that happened when Destiny had a right to believe he was speaking in confidence then this has no right causing the result that it caused. Maybe it didn't affect Destiny much in terms of bottom line, but reputation counts for a lot.

she was probably reading the skype conversation with the password she had from before, and then leaked it. it wasn't destiny, and i really doubt it would be fayth or tt1

ROOT did the right thing. Destiny continues to deliver uninspired "shock" antics, all framed in a smug (and undeserved) sense of superiority. Why would any professional organization touch him with a ten foot pole?
Maybe he'll learn someday. But probably not.
