This is Mr. Chae.
Many things have happened over the last week and I believe many overseas fans have been following the news regarding the current situation in Korean e-Sports. We have been looking over the comments on various community sites regarding this incident and were very moved by the many fans who left encouraging messages for GOMTV on Twitter and community boards. We promise to repay your kindness with great content.
GSL Season 4 will begin today with the Up&Down matches. We hope all of you are looking forward to a series of exciting matches that will determine who will participate in this season’s Code S tournament.
In contrast to the unfortunate news we had to announce last week, we are happy that today we will be able to greet you with some good news.
The Korean e-Sports association (KeSPA) has decided to participate in the GSL Season 4 Code A qualifiers and we have already received the list of participants.
Because of this, there will be an adjustment to the schedule for the GSL Season 4 Code A qualifiers: - Old date: September 5th/6th -> New date: September 12th/13th - Location: Intel e-Sports Stadium, Shindorim
Additionally, we are currently in discussion regarding Code A and Code S seeds for KeSPA players. GOMTV is planning to provide 2 Code S seeds as well as 4 Code A seeds for players of the Korean e-Sports association. We will update you with the list of seeded players as soon as they are confirmed.
We have some additional news regarding the Up&Down matches. Because of a severe typhoon warning, the return of the Korean players who were attending MLG will be delayed. It is possible that we will have to adjust the schedule for the Up&Down matches on short notice, due to some players not being able to attend because of this natural disaster. We are currently in contact with the players in the US and will revise the schedule accordingly, if needed.
Many things have happened over the last week. We would like to once again thank all e-Sports fans for their tremendous support and words of encouragement for GOMTV.
This is the beginning. We will strive to provide all of you with the best content possible. See you at the GSL.
Thank you. Fuck yeah!! I guess Roro is a guarenteed Code S seed, the second beïng Reality/Hero or Jaedong (maybe Effort). Jaedong and Effort will surely get a Code A spot. What are you guy's thought's on who is getting the seeds? I believe Kespa will be the ones deciding on who gets the seeds, so it'll be interesting to see who they pick to receive the seeds haha. Off-topic: Are you the wow player massivez?
Nope.

I think it will be heavily dependent on proleague placing as to who gets the seeds, although Kespa may want to send the best for pride reasons, but I feel they'll send players from the teams not in proleague into the seeded positions.

Hopefully Rain and Roro will get the Code S seed due to their performance in WCS.

I mean its because of them that SC2 is where it is today in Korea. Around the world? GOM deserves to be the main company for SC2, not Kespa. Even though this is just a dream, but, I would hope Blizzard would fight for GOM if it came down to it. i'm think gom will do fine, i was talking about teams...maybe gomtv will join kespa XD Hell no, if anything, Kespa should join GOM. I'm sure majority of people do NOT want a repeat of BW with Kespa. Ok, I get that people are pissed off with Kespa, and yes, they have done some questionable things in the past, but let's not forget that BW wouldn't have gotten where it had without them. They gave birth to, and nurtured the BW pro scene, without which the SC2 scene wouldn't have gotten such a good start. So, enough with the wild and blind condemnations. Their existence does more good than harm. What`s the deal with the Kespa hate anyway? I saw earlier comments on Idra's interview. By the sound of it, he was complaining about progamer practice program, which is done by everybody and I guess necessary for excellence, and the ppp incident, or simply that Kespa is following rules. Anyone have facts/details why "Kespa is evil"? What about the fact that they restrict their players' freedom to play in GSL. Roro said it. And all the other issues with contract and player condition that the others here have been saying. They are practically enslaving the players. I'm happy that their control is over. finally some democracy in korean esports. Read the part below this about player conditions. As for "I'm happy that their control is over." The KESPA players are still underneath the same rules they were before, but KESPA gave in and let them join the GSL other than that nothing has changed. Also remember that KESPA has more than one card to play. In a year (shorter now) they can begin to attempt to take away ESF players. When that year is over and an ESF player is contacted by KESPA, you can bet that 99% of them switch over. Why? Because they actually have a salary. And even then KESPA has more cards than that, don't think their days are limited yet, just a temporary setback. Blizzard is the one dealing the cards in korea right now - and it want's both Gom and Kespa on even footing so that they (gom, kespa) would have a weaker position when dealing with Blizzard. I seriously hope blizzard doesnt kill sc2 to push a different game, like wc4. Bw out lived wc3 thanks to blizzard not being involved. But this opinion will depend on how sc2 evolves at the end...im not so excited about hots from what ive seen. Even towards the end of BW the game was still evolving some. Maybe not the most innovative of strategies, but mind games were evolving, and with that strategies that assisted those mind games were created. Blizzard wants their hands in the pot and they want to make it seem like they're doing something for esports, when all they want is the money. By the sound of it, he was complaining about progamer practice program, which is done by everybody and I guess necessary for excellence, and the ppp incident, or simply that Kespa is following rules. Anyone have facts/details why "Kespa is evil"? Because they controlled the players. They decided when they have to train, how much they have to train, what they play, what not, how they have to act in a game. They are team, sponsor, tournament at once. If you did not follow you did not play bw anymore... And they tried same now. Kespa send players or they send them not. Kespa never ask players if they want to play or not ... In the field of competitive gaming. Where KESPA players even some of the scrubs get paid decently, there are sacrifices to be made. Sure, they did have a bit more control over their lives than most people would want, but at the end of the day they're playing video games and making money at the same time. Sure now, some of them can obtain the freedom of gaming without the stress of being ridden by KESPA, by streaming which weakens your gameplay, or joining a foreign team, which may limit your travel and still weaken your gameplay. Also this thing that they get paid to do was invented by KESPA, so I can see why KESPA would do the things they do to Blizzard and GOM who are just recently joining the bandwagon. At those two organizations, they don't really help the scene as much as people think. Sure GOM gives people freedom to be exposed to the world, but GOM + ESF don't pay people a salary. And Blizzard oh I can count the way they fucked up the game. No LAN, shit chat, shit ladder concepts, no viewing replay with others, patching on a whim. It was better when they weren't involved. I can see that is how Blizzard wants it to be, but they didn't step in this time did they? I think this isn't over. On your first comment, I suspect at least a few teams on eSF are getting salaries as well. LG-IM is obviously a given, and ST/MVP have been acting in ways which suggests that they have money. I would be surprised if FXO does not have money. If anything, the only team that's probably broke right now is NSH. As for Blizzard stepping it, I personally think they did. The announcement from KeSPA and on Blizzard's website is too well timed.
On LG-IM they're a team sponsor, sure there is money, but LG isn't forking over big time cash to pay peoples salaries. They are paying for room/board/travel to get their name out there. I don't know how it is obvious, because most interviews seem to be to the contrary. What ways have ST/MVP been acting like they have money? I guess I could have missed it, but if the team as a whole pulls up in Ferrari's to an event again that isn't money in a players pocket, that is money to get their sponsors name out there. FXO has had a particle player in a blog comment about money, so I doubt they're getting paid. The ones who do show money are only the winners, the time invested in a team, is not paid back unless you win.
Perhaps they did step in, or perhaps someone just posted in both spots. I could see them stepping in though, but not in the open.

Yay I can watch some awesome osl games tomorrow
|
|
Kespa made esf and gom jump through hoops without any real consequences. I guess I'll be happy watching 2 korean starleagues but somehow I feel it's not going to last forever.
|
Good shit. I wished it would have gone smoother though.
|
Kespa slapped down hard. Very happy this establishes who holds the power in Korean SC2: the players themselves, not the corporations.
I'm fairly certain Kespa will still try shady shit like this in the future when they've built up their brand a bit more. Here's hoping they can move to a more open market of players being free to go to whichever team they want instead of players being tightly controlled.
|
The fans win for now. However I have a strong feeling first chance Kespa gets to bury eSP/GOM they will grab it with both hands and laugh about it . Then the fans lose for sure.
|
Finally! Good shit, can't wait to see some epic games!!!!
|
|
Let the fist-pumping commence, lawn-mower style!
Pumped to see Kespa players in GSL and even more pumped for OS2L!
|
Fantastic news. So so glad that the ESF has won this battle.
I'll bet that KeSPA may well try it again down the line, but the reactionary precedent has been established now.
|
rain and roro should get code s seeds for wcs
|
Mr. Chae and Nestea showing epic balls of steel!
|
well done to both parties, this was def the best outcome

Great news! Can't wait to see Jaedong in action

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great news !!!!! GSL 4, OSL ! My dreams come true again !

Very good news. I am glad that ESF and GOM did not bow to KESPA.
