Ghost nerf: TvZ unwinnable late for Terran (no, I'm not qqing, I play Toss, but anyone with eyes can see that this will make Terran lose practically automatically)
Phoenix Buff: personally I will never use it, and it completely fails to address the issue of dealing with mass Mutas REACTIVELY.
I don't think the vast majority of the community was against it. Even though a lot of players say the snipe nerf is overboard, they knew all along that a change was needed. Mass mutas are also only a problem in the late game. I think the patch does address everything. The mule nerf was long overdue too.

thats a question that has been ringing in my head forever about this patch. I remember a long time ago, they had like a UI change and we got to test that, a very small patch that fixed a few crashes, we got to test that as well. Meh we got to test basically every small change and large change before. But why this time when this change could be massive?
150/150 for the phoenix upgrade is kind of meh, considering its 300/200 for the fleet beacon, meaning total cost to just get the phoenix upgrade is 450/350, thats a bit much, well it does unlock more air upgrades as well, but those are the most expensive upgrades in the game atm.
To me it just doesnt seem worth it, as a counter to muta, as the infestation pit is very common and that will shutdown the phoenix play entirely... especially mid late game as the cost of the investment is quite high. And a stargate opener will shutdown muta play if played properly before the upgrade can even possibly come into play.
personally im more seeing this as a PvT buff to that old style where you matched phoenix production with viking production to allow colossus to survive... as phoenix will be able to avoid marines and pick off air units and other stuff much easier. Especially against sky terrans.

I'm not sure what is going on, but I downloaded the patch and installed it successfully. Although when I load the game (it said 1.4.3 in the bottom). The changes Blizzard posted are not in the game. Instead Voidrays got what seems to be there speed upgrade for free (Speed is reading 2.25 now, they seem faster then before but unsure). Ghosts snipe still reads 45 dmg (is that what it was before?). Since there are no official patch notes, I wonder what is going on. Can anyone tell me the default unit stats for Voidray speed and snipe dmg?
There is also no range upgrade at fleet beacon.

The new patch makes me get artifacts everywhere ._.

I think they wanted to air it quickly, thus no PTR, so they can see the results (and stats) of the big tournaments that are coming.
EDIT: I also think theses change are made to see if they can be implemented before HOTS. So they can see if it is possible to remove the tempest for instance. Maybe they have to make that choice quickly, regarding the deadlines for HOTS.

Snipe nerf wasn't "needed" if you consider that it is the ONLY option Terrans have.
Mass mutas are a problem all game long since Toss can't expand once they're out on the field and can't pressure due to the Spine Crawler spam. We need a gateway unit that is decent against air or a unit with reliable AoE against air that can be teched to. Not a micro intensive unit that can only work if we happened to have opened Phoenix anyway.

What if the price of the Fleet Beacon was reduced, and the price of the mothership went up that amount of difference in price? This way, the upgrade would be more reasonable to get, and if you were going for mothership, nothing would change. And carriers... uh... well who the hell uses carriers anyway?
It's an interesting approach. Basically there's nothing wrong with the carriers, it's just pretty impossible to safely tech to them because of cost and building time. Reducing fleet beacon cost would give protoss a lot more flexibility and viable options. The mothership wouldn't be THAT much more expensive as well as it's brought in lategame where getting one and even replacing it should be possible. I approve the idea.

Just watch TvZ lategame from now on. You cannot deal with Bl/Infestor and Ultra/Ling remax without Snipe. It's just not possible.
And again, I don't see many Protoss players celebrating the Phoenix buff, since it totally misses the actual problem.
The only thing people are happy about is the MULE change.

Can someone post a pic of the phoenix range upgrade in the fleet beacon.
Thanks

I have to disagree, I think at least one third of the community isn't happy about it (terrans ). And quite some pros said that the snipe nerf was way too much, even Zerg players like CatZ.

I think everyone knew snipe needed some kind of change or balance done to it. But now, there is no reasonable way to deal with late game zerg.

What confuses me the most is that TvZ wasn't even imbalanced. People just didn't like seeing T3 die to Ghosts (even though this was GROSSLY exaggerated; Ghosts have never been "strong" against Ultras, merely useful). But now, I have no idea how Terran can deal with Infestor/Ultra tech switches without Ghosts holding the line until enough Marauders can be produced.
