Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.
Sorry for the cut image, but i guess anyone is familiar with what the bars have to say (it's the ressource tab). Can anyone explain to me why the Terran has more overall points, allthough every ressource statistic favours the Zerg? I don't understand this at all.
Just a random though. I was listening to some metal songs and wondered whatever happened to Viking cup? I remember thebeard casting some awesome TvT games and listening to metal in between games. <3 Good times...

It basicly says that the terran was succesfull with the early harass (blue flame helion drops I'd bet!!) and the zerg spent too many time and resources redroning (and having low economy) and got smashed to a "cute" timing some minutes after, not giving him time to outstand against the terran.
That's my guess from my experience as zerg against ... anyone that kills so many drones =(
Can someone explain to me why at bronze league level i keep running into these guys with 1000-2000 wins, top 8 bronze and yet they have master level 2's,3's4's teams? It seems a bit unfair to pit me against these guys. I faced 2 different ones back to back. The first utterly destroyed me, the second I beat but just barely.
EDIT: Forgot to mention I myself am a new player to SC2. At the time of the post i had 11 wins and about the same in losses. After these 2 match-ups I referred to I went on a 6 game winning streak (YAY!!!), and faced all opponents who I would say were more on my level.

I got 115 wins, Platinum 2v2, so yeah I guess I can understand you, it's just that their MMR is super low so they play against Top 25/Top 100 Bronze. Also, Season Promotions / Demotions are locked so those in Bronze can't get promoted.
I been in plat for a while and i zerg. When i was in gold and played zvz, 90% of the time, he/she would bum rush ling me. Now it is starting to be like that for plat.
Yesterday and today my bonus pool hasn't been going down even with wins. It's actually been climbing. I had 1 yesterday and then after I won I had 2. Now today I have 9 and it still won't go down even after I win. Anyone else getting this?

That probably means they are going to incorporate a map that's not been done by Blizzards own map-makers.

Lol, I like how you used the word "a" for that. Because you are probably right, they will only use one map.
Can anyone explain how GSL Code B works or what it is, exactly? I just started following the GSL this season and understand Code S and Code A, but other than references to people being sent down to Code B (or being promoted from it), I can't find any info on it. Is it a tournament? Can you watch the matches?

People that qualify to try into the qualifiers to Code A are called Code B.

Hopefully someone will pm you on TL or ingame and you can add each other etc. You can always look for partners yourself instead of waiting for someone to contact you.
Do you guys have any useful tips when I want to start with Random? (I've been playing with Terran, Protoss and a bit with Zerg but I sturggle mostly with Zerg)

Fix different hotkeys set-ups for all the three races. i.e. change hotkey profile everytime you play a new race.

The last bar is literally the resources harvested, so it means the zerg lost lots of drones before being able to mine with them. Also, MULEs allow faster mining of minerals, which would mean he had mined more than the zerg. (Also, if he did a big attack at the end, then there'd be a time when zerg wasn't mining at all and he was.)

Why? :S I'm pretty comfortable with 123 Army, 4 CC/Nexus/Hatches, 5 Rax/Gateway/2nd Hatch, 6 Robotics/Factory/3rd Hatch and 7-9 Upgrade Structures

Good, I just know that I had hard reaching 6 and beyond, so I rehotkeyed them to other buttons. Also, used backspace-method with Zerg for larvae spawning etc., not really compatible while playing Protoss and Terran :D
Anyway, I used to play random, but got kinda bored with it. Reason being there were some match-ups which I did not like (ZvZ, PvT). It can quickly deter you from playing random, so I suggest focusing on developing specific match-ups more, like grind them out. Ofc, play random from time to time to keep all match-ups fresh, but if you hit a block in a match-up, sit down and work the problem out, in whatever way you choose.
Also, use the random attribute to your strength. I mean all-ins/cheese. I would not use it on ladder (kinda useless imo) but when playing BoXs etc.

Well I like playing all 3 races after all but it might be better to just focus on 1 race (I'm mainly Toss atm) as you said.

You could always just play the match-ups you want to play with practice partners/friends. I mean, you don't have to do a complete switch to random

Hmm, lately my hands have been shaking each time I play 10 minutes into a game. Normally I'd attribute it to adrenaline or something, but it's a new thing so it's odd for me. And my hands feels numb and I can barely control them with the numbing lasting a bit afterwards.

So why am I getting advertisements for vampire video games? o_O Edit: male dating sites and ebay now -.- And I second the resource question on the first page. How is it possible to have more unspent, less income, and fewer workers and win in resources?

Are you at all anxious etc while playing, do they sweat or go cold? hand shaking seems pretty common.

Well, personally play random, I would recommend you do like 1 day or 1 week if you dont play as much as each race. Try to just choose which race you feel like playing at the moment and just grind a bit with that.
I would say that the only real disadvantage you get from playing random is that its harder to get the narrow understanding of each match up. I cant for one remember most timings for all three races, so that defienetly is a disadvantage :D

But I don't sweat or go cold. Hmmm. Well, it should be fine as long as I don't feel too much pain I suppose.
I have a huge problem... I'm not a noob/newb, by any means. I know and understand the game as much as a silver player, and my skill is pretty good. But I was placed in bronze in season 1. I was initially gold, but took a long break and got reranked to bronze in 4v4/3v3...
It's like i'm in a black hole I can't get out of. I'm constantly being matched up with the stupidest/worst players in known existence, and I clearly don't belong here. A master has been teaching me for a few weeks, and my skill has drastically gone up. i 1v1 gold players and beat them, even though my 1v1 is bronze (black hole, can't escape...)
But my goal is to get to silver/gold in 4v4... I'm so good at 4v4, my macro is incredible... but I get the WORST partners. Examples of worst partners: -Cannon rush, fail then quit -Don't know what "banelings" are and therefore don't make them when enemy makes mass rines.. -try to mass one unit and make no army the entire game -I had a guy PREACH THE BIBLE and refuse to play and fight on our team, and refused to leave. He claimed he refused to participate in violence, and we should all love each other -Team killers, who tech up and then decide to kill you.
But I've noticed that I'm pitted against much diversity. I face off against golds, silvers... And I'm on the score sheet at the top of almost EVERY game. But I'm not just going off of that, of course not. I also top the "army" and "resources" graphs due to exceptional Macro. But why do I lose? Well for one, I can sweep in and kill one or two of the enemy players in any given 4v4, and all 3 of my other allies are doing god knows what... and the other 2-3 enemy's left will have massed something that completely counters MY army. Such as mass voids/carriers/archons... Mass marines, mass colossi, etc. I can't possibly consider winning 40-50 matches 1v4, which is usually what it feels like I'm playing...
So my question...? How do I get out of this bronze blackhole, considering my skill is growing exponentially (as stated, master is teaching me and I'm learning more than a bronze should know...) ?? am I going to be stuck here forever?

I hate to demoralise you on your first post, but I only play 4v4 when I'm super messed up most likely the people you're playing with are fucking around too because 4v4 is not a real game mode. Secondly, when in bronze don't talk about how you're so much better than people. it's kind of embarrassing. I totally understand what you're going through, I had the same feeling when bought the game in season 4. If you're losing enough in Bronze you won't get promoted. I was playing 2-3 games per week or two after the game had been out for a year and I got out of it after a while by winning more games than i lost. (the irony of it all is I got promoted from Bronze to Silver and Silver to Gold by defending two cannon rushes)
edit: although if you couldn't spot the dude preaching the bible at you in a starcraft game as a troll theres probably no hope for you as an online gamer.

just how it is in bronze league. 4v4 at any level has cheese in it, they are just rush based games. if you really think your issue is your allies, then get a couple of mates and play some games with them. if you guys keep losing, then there is more to your problem then just your allies.
I saw Liquid Hero play a PvZ on his stream, early January(around the 3rd I think). It was on Shakuras against a zerg called DeParture and it was just such an amazing game, at least 40 minutes long. I looked through the VODS of his stream but it looks like the VOD was removed because I couldn't find it. So I was hoping that someone had a link to the VOD/replay, this game can't be forever lost.

Wow, you're a pretty special case. Either you're a troll, or you live in a very special world. I'll assume the latter. I'm just gonna break you down and build you up again, because you have a serious attitude problem. You probably are very terrible. Well, not even probably, I'm really sure you are terrible, you have 'Silver Level Knowledge', you are supposed to use such a statement to admit that you are terrible, but instead of that you see it as a pro. Your macro would be 'incredible' I find it just so cute to see someone make such bold statements. Please post a replay, because I'm 100% sure that you are a very bad player and that you are in just the right spot where you should be. You have the highest score in 4v4 every time because you probably FE and play very greedy, you lose every time they push early, but when they don't, you have a 'sick macro economy'. Also, people don't play 4v4 as a serious match, people play it to troll and relax.
tl;dr: You are terrible, you have an attitude problem, bronze is just right for you.
I am a protoss player in silver league (obviously not good) Im having issues in the late game vs terran due to ghosts. I feel that I cant counter them with HTs due to vikings in the air killing my Obs. Is this a general issue that pros are still trying to figure a way around or am I just stuck dealing with my army automatically having half health when engaging a bio ball late game? Im not trying to troll or QQ if there is obviously a simple way around this please tell me.

Hey man dont do anything, its just those darn teammates keeping you down.
Hey guys I'm new here and still a pretty big noob at Starcraft 2, but I really love the game so much and had a couple of general questions.
My first is how can I try and get my other friends to try SC or have some interest in it? 3 of my good friends are roomates and 2 of them are pretty big RTS fans. They mainly (and by mainly I mean only) play Age of Empires. They've played some lotr ones and dawn of war and what not, but they always go back to AoE. One of them doesn't have a computer good enough to run sc2 but when I try to show him it on mine or show him SC1 on his, he just bitches about how stupid it is and his other 2 roomates jump in agreeing with him about how easy of a game SC is, 2 resources blah blah 3 factions and just bitch the game out without even trying it. One of them used to play original SC too back in the day and agrees with them how easy it is (as I watch him play a skirmish in BW against a computer and get owned with 3 zerglings and sunken colonies up and 5 drones while the computer comes at him with an army). So my question is, how can I stop getting them to be so ignorant and actually give the game a chance and try to get them interested in it? Also they don't have internet at their house so I can't show them VODs or streams or anything, I'm stuck to replays and me playing the game.
My second question is related to the first but a bit off topic from the thread (just delete it if it shouldn't be here, sorry), but what are peoples thoughts on AoE? I've personally never played it but it seems like everything is on land, depends on RNG quite a bit and has an excessive amount of factions without much differences between them. Is it actually comparable to SC and worth checking out (for a fairly new person to the RTS genre in general)? I've even tried googling SC vs AoE but it just comes up with AoE forums with blatant fanboys making stupid arguments defending their game while never even having tried SC so that's why I bothered asking about it here, sorry if it's too off topic and shouldn't really be here.

Hm, mostly and attitude problem from what I can tell. If they instantly compare it to AoE, then it can get difficult. What I'd say what to do, is to maybe get them to try it one at a time? People new to the game can be difficult if they bunch up. Also, if they decide to focus on small, stupid or even irrelevant issues with the game, don't start to discuss those issues, but rather focus on other factors which define SC and SC2; asymmetrical balance, a strong blanced game play, no one-dimensional game play (i.e. macro) but other factors e.g. multi tasking and micro (iirc, AoE is mostly defined by macro, at least I could crunch my friends with pure macro mechanics). While AoE can be nice when two similar, but different colored armies meet, SC and SC2 really shows the beauty in having three different factions with unique strengths and weaknesses. SC is also nice due to the mindset that there is nothing that is impossible to beat, but rather you can improve so much that you can beat anything (except when putting yourself in an un-winnable position). SC is a bit faster gameplay wise than AoE as well. But be careful, and don't "hate" on their game, but rather show the difference between the two games.
Furthermore, let time take its toll. Probably you won't leave the world of SC anytime soon, so perhaps they will mature (don't know the age of them) and try it out someday, whether it be when they get a new computer or what now. Don't nag on them to try SC2, it is never a good idea. Stay strong!
However, I noticed something in your post:
" One of them doesn't have a computer good enough to run sc2" and "Also they don't have internet at their house"
If they don't have internet, then they won't be able to play it anyway :/ just saying
AoE is a nice game, I would suggest trying it out with them some time. Ofc, as I mentioned, constantly producing workers is pretty easy, and can give a huge lead in the game (as mentioned before) but it still is a nice game. I don't know how much they play it competitively, but if they don't you can get away with most unit comps. Archers tend to be pretty imba if the enemy don't know how to deal with them for ex. (think of TvP, MMM melts Protoss stuff if they lack any sort of aoe units. Pretty much the same thing happens in AoE if the opponent doesn't counter ranged units).
Anyway, just my two cent. Probably some other people have better suggestion. But the most important thing is to not be nagging them about trying SC2 and trying to compare SC2 to AoE, and trying to show them that it is a better game.
VODs can give some results as well, if you ever get the opportunity
Ever felt like the only way to win as Zerg was to either have a large skill gap (See: Nestea) or get lucky with your selected tactics? Just as a detective, after staring at a cold case for months or years, will suddenly get hit with the little piece of the puzzle that's been missing and solve the case, it's come to me why Zerg feels so...weak.
After over a thousand games or so I've come to what I think is the biggest problem for Zerg vs the other two races: Healing. Protoss shields, with no research, regenerate insanely fast; so when you throw your army at Protoss and they still have units left, by the time they get to your base they've recovered massive amounts of HP, making their army super cost effective.
Now for Terran same thing except many fold worse. First they get medivacs. Have you ever thrown zerglings at stimmed marines that are getting healed by even 1 medivac? You lose BIG time almost every time. Then you have things like repairing their buildings and machines at speeds only limited by how many SCV's can fit around the item in question at minimal cost.
What healing does Zerg have? Micro intensive queen transfuse which few units live long once under fire for you to transfuse effectively in large part due to lag. Should I even mention the transfuse cool-down nerf? Then there is the issues of buildings. Protoss and Terran buildings do very well after an attack is staved off but that hatchery you were able to save with 200 hit points on it is as good as dead in the next attack unless you happen to have a few spare full energy queens available and because of the cool-down thing several seconds of your time while you babysit them as queuing up the transfuses isn't always reliable anymore.
Now for the humble roach, the only other healing unit Zerg possesses. It only heals when it is vulnerable to attack, and that is when it's buried. When you have a roach/hydra composition for example and you get stormed you can heal up your roaches quite nicely, but what are you going to do about all the red hydra's? Transfuse all 10-20 of them? No, that's actually stupid of you to even think that.
[tl;dr]In summery, Protoss has units left over after a fight? Shields, not a problem. Terran has units left over after a fight? Repair/medivacs, not a problem. Zerg has units left over after a fight? Well, lets just hope they are fully upgraded roaches.
Possible solutions(Please note: this list is not definate, just throwing ideas out there and giving suggestions on what 'I' personally think 'MIGHT' work. I'm not suggesting all items necessarily be implemented at once, together, or at all)
*Increase regeneration rate across all units: In Starcraft of old Zerg regen and Protoss shield regen was similar (maybe the same?), why is there such a large difference in SC2?
*Make transfuse an AOE: Of course changes would have to be made to accommodate the changed mechanic, but this seems like it could be do-able.
*Buildings mutate to full health: When a 1hp overlord is morphed it hatches at full health, why not allow hatcheries and spires to do the same? Perhaps an option to allow a building to remake itself? That low health hatchery can be regenerated to full health in a similar way that it morphs to lair. I'd Happily pay *400* minerals to remake a hatchery rather than wait for it to get sniped and rebuild it.
*Queen regenerates building health like injecting larve: A queen can 'Inject' a building to allow it to heal after a certain amount of time has passed, just like larva inject.
*Allow ALL units to rapid heal while burrowed: Why is this limited to only the roach? The roach can keep it's super healing and burrowed movement but give everything else the base rapid heal rate when burrowed.
Well you've heard my suggestions, can you think of any?
" One of them doesn't have a computer good enough to run sc2" and "Also they don't have internet at their house"

Yeah but there's still ways to play. We can play SC1 lan or they can still try sc2 single player offline/versus AI, and also try the same on my laptop. It's not optimal but they're going to be getting internet and another computer capable of playing, so I was hoping to get them into the single player/vs ai part so when they did get internet, they could actually see the multiplayer, and have some understanding of the game going into it. Not optimal, but there are ways of getting them to play it! The problem is convincing them to.
I have a question that has been floating around in my head for a few days now. Would changing every natural expansion into a gold base demote 1-base all-ins? With the change of mules in 1.4.3 makes it so that no race has a clear macro mechanic advantage for the gold so it seem to me that this is a good idea.
Im just a gold level player and really don't know about the complex intricacies of the game and if there is anything that I overlooked or any negatives or even more positives about this idea please let me know.
Random question due to SC being down for maintenance right now. If I were to work on campaign stuff in offline mode, say finishing a map and continuing to the next mission in the campaign, would I get credit for it when the server came back online? would it "sync" or anything with it and update the bnet campaign with my newer one? I assume if I did any specific hard mode achievements I wouldn't get credit, I'm just wondering about general progression through the campaign.
Also I know I'm new here, I just wanted to say though that I really love how if you go into a thread that hasn't been posted in for >2 months, you get a stern warning to not bump it unless it's important. More forums should implicate this sort of thing.

I did not get any credit when I finished the campaign offline.
I just got an interesting idea. What if lings were given ability to jump down the cliffs? IMHO it wouldn't brake the balance, would just cause lings to be able to reinforce faster and what most important would stop abuse of ffing the ramp by toss players early game which is really frustraiting as zerg can only watch not being able to do anything. The same situation with siege tanks.

You won't get any achievements. None at all. But progress is saved, so gogo!
How many hitpoints does structures have during building/morphing/warping? Do they get their full health immediately or do they progressively get more and more hitpoints? For example if I want to wall in, does a half-finished supply depot have as many hitpoints as a completed one?

Hit points follow building completion progress. So a building that is 1% done will have 1% of its HP

would be insanely imbalanced, you can't even wall off anymore. I get what you are talking about but that isn't definitly way too powerful

Pretty interesting idea for flanking, but I'd say it depends on the cliff size.
Hey For about a while now i have been seaing very good players at the start of there game Swipe there workers and then split when what i do is hit Ctrl F1 what Selects all workers that are not doing anything / idle what are the 6 workers yo get at the start then I seed them to the minerl line and i then split 3 to make a not bad split was just wondering what is btter /faster the pro way swipe workers or the automatic Ctrl F1 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?
Ok so I have a real crap pc with onboard graphics.I only get 10 fps throughout the whole game.I am currently in Plat with over 1400 league wins so I must have played near to 3000 games.I feel like my low fps is holding me back.So my question to the community is, Does very bad fps effect play enough to keep you from getting better.

yes id say it does. if youre averaging 10 fps a game that sounds near unplayable- it must mean your fps drops down to 3-4 in the big fights making everything almost impossible to micro

Just FYI to avoid confusion. It's called "boxing", not "swipe".
I dont think either method poses a significant advantage over the other way. whatever works for you is fine.

That idea is just... the entire map pool would have to be remade in every single tournament + ladder because of this, I don't think he realises just how imbalanced that would be as far as flanking and surrounding goes in key strategic positions.

play with your wrists in a neutral position. Have yourself checked for carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome. I'd say nerves as well but you say it happens only after playing for a while and involves numbness, which leads me to think some kinda nerve impingement is going on.
I'm getting the impression that the majority of gold/plat level players in EU have down thumbed the new maps, played loads of games since the new season and not had either of them once.

Yes, definately. Upgrade your computer. You will notice a massive difference, how can you micro anything with 10 fps?
You can build a good solid gaming PC for about £400 if you build it yourself...

Hi there, Trying to find a specific match, youtube links/commentary would be ace! Can only remember the following details: * Zerg expanded to both 2nd and macro hatch next to destructible rocks, confusing commentators * Zerg spawned top left, Protoss bottom right * Was a lush green map, rocks on gold * Was from around the Dreamhack/Bliz Invitationals time last year. * Zerg didn't abuse his early/mid game advantage and Protoss ended up winning. * It was possibly Naniwa, really unsure.
Haven't watched much Starcraft at all lately, and I enjoy watching replays for more than anything else. Can anyone recommend to me some replays to watch from recent tournaments that are epic, and where I can find them? : )

Given the highest difficulty in the trial edition is "Insane" then you should know that the AI is cheating at this level. It gets additional income and has vision of the whole map. The only way to beat it is by either rushing it (cannon rush, 6pool, reaper rush) or by abusing the AI with consistent harass which keeps the AI pulling back his army to deflect the harass and thereby allowing you to macro up. The latter way is a lot harder to pull off. In any case you shouldnt consider the AI too much of a good training, its best to just hop into 1v1s and learn the game that way.
On February 18 2012 11:03 Dissonance23 wrote: How do you kill a 200/200 Siege Tank Thor Viking army as Z? Keep losing to it. =(
A maxed out terran mech army is relatively impossible to beat. With proper positioning, it is a dumb idea to attack it head on. It is probably one of th most cost-efficient unit compositions out there when in proper positioning.
So, if you can't attack it head on, you have to either split up your forces and attack different areas at the same time, in order to either split up their army or to abuse to immobility of mech. Either do this until you have an opening where you can either:
- Attack his army straight up - Attack chunks of his army in order to tear down his forces a small piece of a time - Go for a base trade
To abuse mech's mobility, either use overlord drops or nydus canals, or even just circumvent his mech ball and attack an expo or something
The units you want to use is usually roaches, and if he is skipping hellions, lings. Upgrades are important. If he has a reduced viking count (i.e., he has around no vikings) a broodlord transition can do a lot of damaged IF he is unprepared (i.e. no vikings or no vikings in production). Ultras can be useful if he has few thors.
Mech is usually focused around doing one massive attack with a strong and slow army. So base trade in this situation is a good idea. Also, when base trading, escape with your drones and build expos all over the map so he cannot kill all your buildings.
Does anyone know of a way to put the game on low settings but have spell effects high enough so that force fields look as they do on medium/high settings? For me it's much easier to see things on low settings except for the force fields!
I have a slight problem with the game UI. Couldn't they make the mineral, gas and supply icons at the top right of the screen unclickable ? Sometimes when I want to box quickly, I end up clicking on it and it prevents the selection. Does it happen to anyone else?
They did so with the menu items and the control groups, I think they could do it for those little icons.

Well if your opponent isn't very vigilant you could use Infested Terran bombs to wear down/break Tank lines. The rest of the units are pretty bad against Roaches or Lings.
If he is GM and watching his army eagle-eyed and can spot the telltale sign of a burrowed moving Infestor or makes Turrets/Raven, then I have no idea and you are facing a gigantic uphill battle to win.
(A huge Corruptor/Broodlord/Infestor/Crackling army can do it, turn some Drones into Spines to slow down pushes and free up supply for army)

The lineup is pretty sick indeed. That said the finals are in May and there isn't even a schedule for the group games. But yeah I'd like more coverage from the TL Team, there should be at least some entertaining games in the qualifiers?

Well, he did play SC2 and WC3 both on half-time during summer/autumn when he played in the GSTL with WeMadeFox. After their disbandment, I think he started to focus more on WC3 up until WCG11, where he was beaten in pool play iirc. Anyway, he had some kind of earyl exit. Lyn took the championship against Sky though, the Chinese legend (more or less).
Now, he has been recruited by fnatic to play SC2 full time if I've understood it correctly. He's playing next week in Assembly, in group C against ReaL, Brat_OK and Cloud.

I dont know but from some of the GSL matchs it seems pure air like a ton of corrupters and broods (no muta in the final comp) and a few infestors (to fungal vikings) with heavy air upgrades double spire style casue it looks sooo freaken hard to beat when u lack ghost-snipe and your vikings cant match the zerg air upgrades (Terran upgrades going to ground mech) and the tank Thor takes up so much supply
But i think the hardest thing vs that tank thor and viking style is probaby getting to the point where u can get all the things u want, cause when i play i dont find the time to get it T_T but if u figure u can hold out and are just finding what compostion u should go i strongly suggest full air but i'm no pro (just a fellow player that loves sc) but at least give it a try

Can anyone give or point me to general advice on when/what to upgrade as Terran? (Attack/Armor upgrades) I've been getting attack upgrades first in general, is that a better idea than armor most of the time?
On February 14 2012 08:00 Lunatics wrote: Hey guys I'm new here and still a pretty big noob at Starcraft 2, but I really love the game so much and had a couple of general questions.
My advice would be to get decent at this game (maybe like gold league or so minimum) and then go and play AoE with them. I played AoE 3 and it is definitely a lot more 1-dimensional than SC 2. If you've gotten decent at SC 2, then I guarantee you'll be as good, if not better than them at AoE, even if they've played a lot more than you. The same thing happened with me and my friend. He's a big LoL player, and I was a HoN player (if you don't know, the 2 games are both off-shoots of DotA, and players from the 2 games generally hate each other), and I was trying to convince him that HoN takes a lot more skill than LoL. So to prove it to him, I just went and played LoL with him, and did just as well as he did on my 2nd game (and it was like his 500th game), and he was like "oh, maybe HoN players do know what they're talking about).
And even if you don't convince them to play, you can at least rub in their face how much better you are than them :D

The usual aproach to upgrades as a T is to start of by getting Attack upgrade, then build a 2nd engi bay and a armory and start 2/1 at the same time. Meaning you start +2 attack at the same time as +1 armor, i would recommend you try to practise this into your build, on vs AI or ladder if you so prefer.
I see some players have special characters in their name, like for example: ǂ Is it possible to just crtl+v one into your name when trying to change it, or do you have to set your keyboard up to it beforehand?

When you're not playing, you get like 1 point added to your pool every hour. Its something like that, not sure exactly how fast you get them. When you win a game, the bonus pool is used to double up the points you get.
eg1 You win a game, you have 100 points in bonus pool Win game = + 8 points (+8 bonus Pool) total = +16 points
eg2 You win a game, you have 5 points in bonus pool Win game = +8 points (+5 bonus pool) total = +13 points
The purpose of the bonus pool is to encourage people to play ladder and to allow players who arnt getting any better to climb their division.
Imagine... if you won exactly 50% of your games, then you are staying at a constant level of play. But you'd get twice as many points for the wins as you'd get for losses. (eg +16 for win, -8 for loss). So even though you are not improving, it enables you to get to a high place in the ladder.
So when someone say's they are "high diamond" or something, the "high" part does not necessarily relate to skill.

Normally when people say they are high diamond they should be referring to the fact that they are playing master league players regularly, thus likely legitimately being better than high-score diamond players who may have a lot more wins (to account for their higher loss count). You can be high diamond and have 100 points, I figure, esp. after season reset and inactivity. In leagues below masters I'd say points have no relevance most of the time - have to compare the win count to the points. Rank1 500Pt Diamond means little to nothing if you have 500 wins, you know? (Because that means you have a lottt of losses to account for it) But of course there is possibility that the player has ramped up in skill in recent times - still, often not the case.
korea is much less terran dominated than it was before, and gumiho powers his way to the ro4
just some thoughts.
Wait, what? He went 4-1 against MVP in the Ro16, and he is 68% vT. Gumiho has improved a lot lately, and he is definitely solid against Terrans nowadays. Those stats are his total career, and he did play random for quite a while, explaining why his TvT mirror match up doesn't have quite the same stability as his other match-ups.
I know a lot of people joke about it, but the amount of Zerg players on EU is just ridiculous. I don't know if it's something to do with that low-mid Masters level, but I've played nothing but ZvZ for the last 10 games, and at least 50% ZvZ over the last 50~ or so. It's getting really tiring, the matchup is already insanely frustrating, and having to play it over and over again is driving me insane......
Makes me think there could be something to stop you from getting too much of the same MU on ladder... (Also less ZvZ on Tal'Darim please, it's a good map that's a fucking joke for ZvZ, PvP too ;_;)
EDIT: Finally get a ZvP after 12 ZvZ's in a row, get plyon-walled. This game is so fucking frustrating at times.

True story guys, the best part of this coming patch is going to be that we get to see our real APM again! ^.^ Can't wait for it to actually hit, i was fairly disappointed that they didn't do it with the maintenance yesterday.
I never saw any threads pop up about Grandmaster this season. Does it seem to be working as its supposed to this season? I dont see it filled up even now with about 189 players (on NA)

I kind of disagree with your reasoning for the purpose of bonus pool. Since you start each season at 0 points, if you're winning 50% of your matches like you're supposed to, then you'll remain at 0 points. And if you're losing every single game, then you'll remain at 0 points. The only way to raise your points would be to be winning a lot more than 50% of your games, which essentially means the matchmaking system is failing at matching you against people of your own skill. The bonus pool creates a moving "average" point value that raises over the season.
So if you're at the point in the season where 500 total bonus pool has been given out, then you would be at 500 points. If you're losing more games than you're winning, then you would be below 500. And if you're winning more than 50%, you would be above 500. It's just a way of differentiating between people who have an even W/L, and people who have a lot more losses than wins. Although I agree that it might be partially so people with low self-esteem can feel better about watching their points slowly go up, even if they're sucking hahaha.
Anyone looked into getting an Android theme for each race? I use a Galaxy Nexus with GummyNex on it and wouldn't mind theming it to the Zerg in-game UI. Anyone have experience with such things?

Either drop your rating, which is what i did by trying silly strats like hatchery rushing or random all ins untill you feel your MMR is at a level where you feel comfortable enough to start getting your ranking back up. You can also simply que up as random and hope for the best and let your MMR work itself out.

I am 99% certain that it won't be possible to use 1 key on multiple computers. But I really want to watch this MLG, but I used to do it with a buddy over Teamspeak. It would be super sexy if you could use 1 key on 2 IPs this time.
What is the races people most often like to see verse eachother i often hear people say this race vs this race anything can happen i hear it alot what do people like to see what is the most balanced one
EX: PVP is like rock paper scissor
Cats in winter stream its tvz anything can happen (marineking Vs Losira)
so what is the thing people think is the most equal?
So I've been out of it for a month or so, and looking at the results of this GSL i'm very surprised there isn't a terran in the finals. What can you tell me about genius' play? Is it impressive, or just based on timing attacks. I'm also glad to see DRG in the final after his hear breaking loss to MMA in the blizzard cup.
While watching the MLG Arena I wonder why Blizzard does not make some special PCs like a Gaming Console for SC2? Just for the big Tournaments. Lan Modus would be possible then.

I have a question, a simple one: How do I got about picking a race? This is a question that has been circling my mind like a pair of sharks smelling blood in the water. I am a mid gold level player. I started out in bronze with Terran, then I hit a wall. I felt like learning something else from a different perspective could help so I switched to Protoss and got into silver. Then I hit another wall. Feeling like I could go no further with my Protoss play I switched to Zerg. I quickly started progressing from simple 1 base builds, to now always being some what forced to expand with Zerg. Now here I am, I was High gold for the longest time with Zerg but took a break because I hit another wall. Now I'm having a race crisis and can't focus on one race to excel at it and practice with. TL;DR I'm in gold and don't know which race to play to advance to more leagues.

sorry to break it to you, but i consider experienced players by your standards to be players who have maybe played 100 games in the past 6 months. If you have not touched rts in years, I don't think your mechanics will be able to mass marines like how experienced players can mass marines.

What makes the Korean players so good? Is it really all about intense practice or a general superior ability to handle the hand-eye coordination, the multitasking, and the decision making that make any player very good? I'm new to SC2 but not gaming in general so this strange phenomena where such a small community can dominate the landscape of the competitive scene is surprising.
Or am I mistaken? Are there an equal number of non-koreans as skilled (or more so) that just play IN korea or WITH korea?

You play a lot of SC2, play against practice partners and/or ladder (search for practice partner thread), download top replays to learn from, and watch streams. Teamliquid will give you a lot of help on builds, and you can ask simple questions in general forum thread. Also, don't choose TLPD-ize when you post normal text.
I think I found a bug in the interface. If for example I select 1v1 and Terran, and repeatedly press single player and multiplayer a few times (quickly), if that secuence ends in multiplayer, the UI selects 2v2 for me. o.O

As a matter of fact, you can't press single player once you are searching for a game Of course is not a big deal, just wanted to share it and see if happens to anyone else

TL;DR I'm in gold and don't know which race to play to advance to more leagues.
just pick one and stick with it. whichever race you enjoy, just play that one. You can't always dodge the wall and "seeing another race's prespective" at this level imo is just an excuse to not have to work over the wall
Well, I cant think of any other place to ask this: Where would be the best place to list a piece of Starcraft memorabilia for sale? I have a White-ra signed mousepad that I won in a plat tourney a while back...but I already had one! Can't imagine anyone actually going to ebay to look for the stuff...and dont know of anywhere else.
A question concerning improvement and making it into masters. From bronze to diamond, the general advice on a build order is to pick a single build order for each matchup, and perfect it. However, when I look at pro replays from tournaments, they rarely have the same build order. What I mean is they'll probably play a bo3/5/7 with a certain build with deviations, which is fine, but in a different tournament they use a totally different build. Every pro has different builds and I'm having trouble just picking one. Is it fine to copy different builds and focus on the essentials of macro to make sure I can pull off a small variety of strats with consistency in my macro mechanics?
Edit. I'm a high diamond if you're curious. My macro is generally... acceptable.
I'm getting "There is a temporary outage of the Battle.net services" when I try to log on. Anyone else getting that issue, or, if it's just me, does anyone know a fix?
Is there anyway to report a cheater except sending a report ingame? It feels like it doesn't do shit, I remember one cheater particular that I added to friends. I kept track of him and he was playing like every day almost when I was online for a month after I reported him, and the cheat was so obvious. I had several friends watch it and they felt the same, maphack and looking through fog of war and making perfect counters etc.
Does Blizzard react maybe if I send them a email with evidence etc., does that have any effect at all?
Zerg player here. I messed around in the unit tester map, and I noticed that lings stop for quite a while after hitting say a moving scv.
If you micro the ling you can make that a-move cooldown shorter and hence make the ling attack the scv more often than it should on normal A-move. (Right after it hits the scv, move click it somewhere else, and immediatley press stop, or click the scv again. The ling will then attack it faster than normal.)
Can someone please verify this. Is this of significance? I can Imagine it beeing useful vs marines that are stutterstepping away from a ling ball, allowing the microing of the marines to be less efficient.
where did this day9 is dead stuff start i know he is not dead but it seems like every stream i go to someone is saying it im kinda new to the community thanks in advance

Blizzard forums maybe? There must be support emails also, if you look enough
Anyone have ideas on how to hold your hands on the keyboard to hit all the hotkeys? I want to start splitting my army into 123 but it is difficult to reach all the way to 4567 to get the production buildings. Am I missing something?

I'm stuck on the wasd setup :p Too much Counter Strike
I want to preface this question with a few things so that it might be taken in manner in which it is intended. This isn't QQ nor my outlet for a loss on the ladder, I'm honestly just curious if there is a solid answer to this that has so far eluded me.
Is there a design/balance reason for zerg having no mobile anti-air before lair tech? I figure there must be some reason that it isn't there, but I haven't really thought of anything that made too much sense. Maybe it's as simple as designers assumed that zerg players would be teching to lair more quickly than we typically see, but maybe there's something I'm missing entirely. Thanks in advance for any input!
Don't know if this has been posted, but i didnt want to start a thread just in case! Any idea whats going on with the blur face in a recent Incredible Miracle picture?
I don't know what to make of this, not only that it is in my recent-list (even though I got it on last BlizzCon, duh) but especially if you look at the date of when the achievement was received.

It fits well into how Zerg constructs units with the larva mechanic, gains access to those units via tech structures, and how this would impact early-game air play styles for Terran and Zerg.
Terran and Protoss cannot batch produce air units, they must be queued up and produced one at a time per structure. Zerg's counter to this is identical (queens must be queued). They are given a slight defender's advantage (as they should have) with spore crawlers. That's that basically. If Zerg had a larva produce-able AA unit early game they could forgo just one round of drones to shut down an extremely costly opening for Terran or Protoss with ease. It would really hurt any air-style openings from either race.
The current setup rewards good scouting - something Zerg players must absolutely be doing considering the larva production system. It also gives Zerg just enough tools to deal with early-game air aggression.
I need help finding an account in game the account is IMRandom on NA in master division pheonix november
but i dont have the character code and my match history is glitched so i cant find the game, so how do i find his account to check his match history? http://sc2ranks.com/us/2885129/IMRandom
is the only other way to just start guessing character code numbers?
I am new to SC2. Been playing for about a week now, and having no troubles at all. All of a sudden i try to log in tonight and get an " Incorrect Login: Global_Network_Error" message. Im positive im entering my info correctly because i can log in on battle.net website. Anybody ever experience this and know how to fix it?
i feel like sc2 is dying and is on its way down. it definitely won't be like brood war and i don't see it taking main stage at video game tournaments for much longer.

Hopefully HOTS will change the game a lot. If not, sc2 could indeed be dead
How long is LoL expected to stick around for, and do you guys think SC2, perhaps with the addition of expansion packs, will once again be the fan favourite and remain the flagship title for most events?
does anyone know the dimensions to the replay box so i can do what day nine does and cover it with my logo? please email me the answer at andrew.sirolly@gmail.com thanks

Doesn't it depend on your screen resolution? Just take a screenshot of it and see how much you have to cover.

it won't be dead, it just won't be on the main stage anymore, especially with LoL booming strong and Dota 2 coming
If I only play 4 placement matches (out of 5, for example) and the next season hits, does my placement matches/MMR reset or would it save my MMR/placement matches and keep me at 1 placement match?
This is assuming only one season (I know 2 seasons always reset your MMR/placement matches).
