You're what's wrong with this world. Even if he had played he would've been too exhausted to play well. He said: Either we'll take the games at another time or else I'll forfeit.

It's not like he claimed the right to not play. He just wasn't able to play at any decent level.

I think ONOG overdid it :'/

<3, Thanks I for recovering my belief in TL's community

Sigh. How hard is it to stay up for an extra hour and a half? Some of these 'pro-gamers' are fucking children. I have trouble believing that's even the real reason he forfeit. It's too pathetic.

5 games has a potential to span over 5 hours counting the in between time and what not. Unless he rush everytime... but then he'll get castrated for that too. Either way he's going to get shit, for either playing sucky or leaving. Might as well leave.

5 hours is the biggest exaggeration I've ever heard. Name one series that has gone 5 hours... ever. A typical game is 15 - 20 minutes. There shouldn't be more than 5 minutes between games either.

Besides, it's not hard to stay up for an extra 5 hours anyway. Have a fucking coffee. Eventually you go into a state of overtiredness where you don't feel so bad. And for a $3000 (or however much it was) tournament that a decent number of people are watching, it's even easier (if you have any sense of respect for the fans or money, which obviously Stephano doesn't).

Damn lets give this guy a PhD in cognitive science! He's got his thesis right here folks! But not sure if you know what a potential is... could be troubling.

Save the sarcasm. This is a community of people whose lifestyle often involves all nighters playing games at home or at LANs. I'm surprised that, of all people, this community would use missing some sleep as a defense. I'm not going to argue anymore, but if you think staying up for 5 hours is too hard then you really need to get out more.

And then you learn that Stephano has a healthy lifestyle, waking up at 8 and going to bed somewhere around midnight. Maybe that makes him a better player. In every sport coaches would recommend not having a messy sleep schedule in order to be competitive or to have good training. Maybe that applies to sc2 as well.

I'm not suggesting he do it every night. I'm suggesting he could have done it this one time for this one tournament, then learned from his mistake and never schedule in such a way that he could end up in that position.

If someone pro tells you their going to play like crap if they continue, guess what, he's probably going to play like crap. They have their limits understood waaaay more than any outsider, THEY'RE PRO... If you can do it, GOOD FOR YOU!!! Too bad they are different people! His penis is smaller, so what?! You're not the pro! But that still doesn't mean his penis should be big! Back to the original point, if you play like crap, you're going to get shit, if you forfeit you're going to get shit. At least if you leave, you can sleep.

If it's so easy for everyone Swede, why has he won more tournaments then you!? You obviously know human limits better than he does! He's won more than most people in this "community" as you said it, anyway!

One day isn't gonna wreck that though. I think people are probably blowing this up bigger than it should be, but really, its not that hard to stay up for a few more hours for the sake of the fans and for the people who organized the tournament. I mean, they make his job possible, its just nice to show them some respect.

Way to be a hypocrite, Ben.
(not talking about the fact he decided to throw his games only when he faced his team mate Idra, to secure him a step further in the qualifier rather than letting the players he eliminated earlier in the bracket to have a chance to face Idra and get the chance, that Ben and EG's trick robbed, to qualify)

Also Incontrol talking about endurance when he has never been in a situation where he had to play more than a bo3 in any tournament bracket he participated, due to being out everytime on the first round (despite MLG giving him all the second chances in the world where nobody else would, and for a good reason).
Why is Incontrol even talking about something he clearly has no clue about? Easy to talk about exhaustion in tournament when your experience of it resumes to settle your keyboard and putting in back in your bag a couple of minutes later.

"I would love that have his problems" - Looks like Jealousy has spoken through Incontrol's mouth, but making it loud enough to be heard isn't a wise choice if you want to look a legitimate arguer.

Fact is EG is trying to get Idra back on the spotlight and continues to bash people's mind with the illusion of him being the n°1 foreigner zerg, but that's not how to do it: he has to prove it himself, but sadly for EG he can't win a game to save his credibility.
That's what EG doesn't get, when taking everyone for dumbass sheeps, champions are made on the battlefield and recognised by the viewers, not built by the marketing squad and sold by force to people in contradiction with the actual results.

And ranting about it on a show will not change anything about it.

Typical attack to the messenger and not the message.. if you are really that butthurt you should at least make an argument that in some way might justify why Stephano acted like a douche rather than trying to portray EG as this evil empire which is pretty much only in your head.

Typical attack to the messenger and not the message when trying dismiss an attack to a messenger and not to a message... Wait that doesn't make any sence? Yeah that pretty much sums up your argumentation: formulating intricate sentences with words you've been hearing left and right when you have yourself no clue about the ins and outs of it, in most cases will give you such a terrible result rather than making you look like a genius

By the way why are you using such categories like "attack" or "evil empire"? Too many movies and comics worked on yourself if you can't have an argument without falling into clichés and dichotomies between "good" and "evil". No wonder you're showing such a binary and stereotyped behavior on forums.

You do realize you still havnt actually given a reason why your conspiracy theory makes sense. The fact that some players on EG critisized Stephano for quitting the finals of a tournament isnt so much shocking as it is obvious. I would have been more surprised if they had said that not playing in the finals of a tournament that is literally delaying itself to accompany you is a good thing.

I'm going to make it more obvious for yourself: where were Demuslim and Incontrol (and TL redaction making a community news about it - still surprised this website is considered by the majority as a community website, when we see such a double standart in its policy, not talking about tyler's forfeiting in ONOG or ragequitting in NASL, and other bias in prediction posts when TL players happen to play in a tournament) when Idra forfeited matches supposed to be broadcasted live in IPL 3 (he even justified it by being tired - the irony) or Ben throwing games in a Naniwa fashion to Idra (bit by bit!!) in ESWC NA qualifiers (didn't matter to him since he couldn't attend - but, you know, what about the fans that wanted that match and that make what is esport??)? Where were the news on ESFI with insightful but confidential guests? Nowhere to be found.

There's no conspiracy theory, I'm not talking about obscure probabilities motivated by acquiescence of interests, I'm just stating the obvious.

All of those things were talked about either because they had threads or because the LR thread where the event happend talked about it to death for next 20 pages. Also the Idra IPL3 event was talked about a little but they were so far behind that it probably was one of the reasons they finished in time.

Thank you. And on the subject of the fans - how many of them were staying up late to watch the games? It was a barcraft tournament after all. Stephano isn't the only person who deserves to have his needs met. It seems to me that the situation in which the most people would have been satisfied would have been the one where he played the games.

It's disrespect to play like utter crap. A la Naniwa you (or fans) would not be happy. He offered to play at a later day to respect his fans! Out of all the situation at that time and point, that is the most respect he could offer his fans although it disrepects the tournament.

Disrespect to play, disrepect to not play. There is no showing respect from this situation. (Unless he didn't double book)

I know that, but TL still didn't take a position while deciding to upgrade it to a community news.

"The opinions expressed by our users do not reflect the official position of TeamLiquid.net or its staff." not anymore.

My point is this was all discussed in the same fashion in ONOG's LR, nothing different should have motivated TL to write a community news in the first time if they stand by the policy they advertise as a part of their image and website, and moreover when they do it in this case and not for the precedents.

One day isn't gonna wreck that though. I think people are probably blowing this up bigger than it should be, but really, its not that hard to stay up for a few more hours for the sake of the fans and for the people who organized the tournament. I mean, they make his job possible, its just nice to show them some respect.

Then what it comes down to is a simple difference in opinion. I don't consider the quality of games to be a demonstration of respect. How can it be when it is often out of their hands anyway? The only thing I care about is whether they do their best given their current mood/wellbeing, as well as demonstrating an awareness of their audience where needed - both of which Stephano failed to do.

Why is Incontrol even talking about something he clearly has no clue about? Easy to talk about exhaustion in tournament when your experience of it resumes to settle your keyboard and putting in back in your bag a couple of minutes later.

"I wanted to apologize to ONOG Staff and all my fans. I didn't know that the event was casted live from a Barcraft, and also that so much people were watching my games in finals. I had played two competitions the same day and handling time was an issue. As a result, it was difficult to find a good compromise to satisfy everyone. Be sure that I understand my mistake and all it means to the ONOG Staff, that's why I completely agree with their decision regarding my ranking. I will do my best in the future to prevent this kind of situation.

-Stephano"

I think Stephano certainly was within his rights to forfeit the match because, naturally, we can't force someone to play against his will. However, that doesn't mean we can't frown on his behavior. I think the reason most of the people feel outraged is due to the nature of Stephano's forfeit.

I don't think many would have had a problem if he quit because of some physical trauma but in this story presented to us Stephano comes off as an impolite person, perhaps greedy even. He could have very well given up his spot for someone more eager instead. Even then I doubt as many would have cried out had Stephano showed some remorse for the situation he put the tournament organizers in. He could have expressed his exhaustion way earlier: I doubt we would have twice the pages had Stephano conceded in the earlier rounds. However, he went on his way to plead the organizers to conform to his schedule without keeping his end of the "contract". If stephano showed some good will and at least forfeited in a more apology tone instead of giving an ultimatum and going straight offline, I think people would be more understanding. Good manners are cheap but go a long way.

edit: didn't see the post above while writing this.

Lol, why is the front page full of people wanting to see stephano punished? It's ridiculous, he's a fking person, working/playing til 3am so you can watch him in whatever tournaments, and then you want to alienate him by creating some organization for the sole puprose of punishing him^^ omfg.

I get that it's not ideal when 2 finals line up like that, for the players nor the viewers, but come on! the solution to the problem was perfectly OK in the light of everything. Did you realllyyyyyyyyy need to see stephano play kas in that final? Was it THAT important that it not be catz, but stephano? Well then, if you love him that much, why do you attack him and want to punish him?^^

It's really not about you. I'm quite sure stephano does the best he can, and when he "can't" it is best he says "no" and we should respect that. You didn't miss out on anything; except you missed out on getting to see stephano; which should be a privilege, and not something that should be enforced by a committee. omg ^^

Well I think this was an appropriate response. Giving up the final game for no apparent reason there has to be some kind if punishment and I guess this was an appropriate one. If it was gom he proboably would have been banned forver. lol.
