I can't comment on episode 3 aka The Fall much, but Chris (the author) has informed us he'll be back to have another look at it in Heart of the Swarm.
On February 28 2013 23:00 Blazethesage wrote: One quick question: I've asked something similar to this before, but I wanted to elaborate somewhat.
In the final level of the Episode 5, To Chain the Beast, one of the objectives is to kill the three Cerebrates to weaken the Overmind's defenses. Last time I commented on this, I noted that the respective color Zerg do not become passive upon the Cerebrate's death in the same way as in Brood War. It was noted that this was an intentional change, as it made little sense to the creators that the zerg would simply stand around while being shot, and this much I don't mind.
However, it was also said that while the zerg do continue to defend themselves, the AI does cease all action. This, I am noticing, is not true. They do continue to gather resources and continue to make units. In particular, I noticed this in the form of air units to throw against my attacking Battlecruisers. Is it intentional that they continue creating units like this? As it stands now, a cease in attacks against your base (and the loss of their "special power" appears to be the only effect of the Cerebrate's death.
Just wanting to clarify *how* much of their continued activity is intentional, and how much they are actually supposed to stop doing.
Well don't I look like a fool, after recently insisting that the AI stops functioning. The resource gathering is mostly just cosmetic, but I thought I'd made sure to disable the scripted defenses and stop the AI from replacing units. Maybe I missed the air defense part. So none of that is intentional. Still, stopping the attacks on your base is obviously quite significant. Need to have another look at this.

I'm also impressed Blizzard hasn't lost their beans over including the SC1 assets - the voices really, really made up a lot of this. It pretty much felt close enough to SC1 for me. Devs: Any thoughts on suggestions, to summarize In ALL SIX CAMPAIGNS: when a movie should / would be played put up <See video 3.2 Zerg "The Hive" on youtube> so we know to pause and ALT-Tab to the net When a character is speaking in the briefing room, add the characters names, in Zerg campaigns it's hard to know who is who Otherwise, awesome work - about to re-finish 5 and try 6.
Possibly trying to implement some way to distinguish who is talking in the briefings. Maybe even actual speaking animations (for Terrans), we'll see. Zasz and Daggoth may look exactly the same, but they have very distinct voices. :p
As for the cinematic notifications, uhh, print Telenil's list? I'm not sold on the idea, to be honest. It would kind of seem like placeholder text. I'm thinking it would sound a bit too much like "this feature not included in this version", like you're playing some kind of trial version. Yeah it sucks that there's missing content, but we don't want to constantly remind the player of that either, especially a player who doesn't really care that much about the old cinematics.
We might explore adding some options for the player, so I suppose this could be a candidate for an optional feature.
And yeah, only one video per campaign in Brood War.

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I can't get autorepair working in the UED campaign. The repair icon does not show up on the SCV's menu, and so I can't right click it to activate autocasting. Is there a fix for this? As you might imagine, it makes the last UED mission much more difficult(and it's hard as hell to begin with)

Playing through Episode 2 (Zerg 1).. it says Lurkers are available.. but the option to morph Hyrdas is hidden. Bug? Of course, you guys said Eps 2 and 3 might be pretty buggy right now.
BTW, is there a place where I can subscribe to be notified when updates are available? This is pretty much the only way I'll play the SC1 story now... I don't care too much about extreme accuracy.. and SC1 itself is just a chore to play after playing SC2. This version of it, for whatever reason, is easier for me to follow along (storywise) and is more enjoyable to play. So, thanks for all your hard work on it!
EDIT: Mission 9 of Protoss 1 crashes SC2 when Zeratul attacks the cerabrets.

Hey, nice job you have done there! I finished the first Terran-Campaign - loving it so far. But I have a bug in the Zerg-Campaign, the Zergling attackanimation is not showing, they just stand around enemy buildings and units until it dies. Also the Devours are not visible and clickable. Hope you guys can tell me how to fix it, would be awesome

That is under known issues, and it doesn't actually crash it goes down to 5 frames every minute or so. I managed to beat the level with the insane lag, took me like 2 hours but still beat it, just kill everything besides the cerebrates and do your best to make sure nothing hits it (mass carrier is best strat for this). Then just shift right click zeratul on both cerebrates, spent an hour waiting and you got the mission done. Don't alt tab during the lag though, that actually makes starcraft crash.

Finally finished! Epic all around thank you very much for this. Queen of Blades was the best one of them all and I wasn't even a fan of the original version (Zerg aren't my cup of tea... HotS is gonna be rough lol).
My ranking from best to worst: Queen of Blades Rebel Yell The Iron Fist The Stand Overmind The Fall
But again really great job all around! Faithful to the original with just enough additions to give it a character all its own. I particularly loved the added cutscenes, they made me start getting nostalgic for Warcraft III too lol. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with in HotS.... though admittedly I probably won't be trying it out again until the lead up to LotV.
Now to replay WoL so I can finally start HotS lol

That's a new "feature" Blizz added to Starcraft II in 2.0 as far as I can tell...
Go to Options->Gameplay and uncheck "Enable Simple Command Card" and all the icons will be back. You should see the Repair icon and right clicking will activate autocast as usual.

Well well well - interesting little thing from Heart of the Swarm, it looks like the modmakers here will have a choice moving forward... do they want to keep using that custom Guardian model... or the official one Blizzard used in the Heart of the Swarm campaign?
Just wanna say, can't wait to see what you guys are able to do with the new assets!

First of all I want to say what an amazing mod this is, I only found out about it last night (took a long break from Starcraft, came back for HOTS). Now I have read this thread a bit but never found an answer to my question. I would like to know if there are any plans to include the cinematics in the mod? That would really make it the complete package. If not is it something that would be difficult to do myself? Just curious. Thanks again for all the hard work on this!

Hi,
compliments for the implementation of Overmind into Sc1BW mod :D
Can we see in the future months an upgrade for the zerg model (creep colony for example) with the new model of hots?
And for The fall? Can we see an upgrade like for the Overmind?
Thx for all your work!

I'm sure the creator of Episode 3 will return to update it as they said they have, it's just a matter of him actually coming back to do so.
But I do agree, as I said above, that I can't wait to see what they can do with new assets. The new models alone open a lot of options. Hell, the new model for the Hyperion in the campaign looks great, and could, if they so chose, replace the standard Battlecruiser model; because remember, the SC2 battlecruisers are a different type, lorewise. Minotaur-class as opposed to Behemoth, I think. The new Hyperion model looks more like the SC1 design.
Of course, it's going to take time.

There are too many posts for me to answer them all, so a bit of an update:
- As Razorblade and Blazethesage said, Overmind has been updated to version 4 and the SC1BW mod. This should remove most if not all gameplay bugs you may have experience in this episode. A similar update for The Fall will come, though it does not depend on us as much as on Chrisdaughtery, who left Starcraft a year ago but said he would come back for this. We'll see how it goes. - We will update the mods to used HotS assets, but don't hold your breath, we will be taking our time. Heart of the Swarm brought a bunch of goodies to the editor, including the conversion of old SC1 Zerg models that were put in the editor in addition to those used in the campaign. I don't know if the modelers thought of us when they did them, but either way, bigs thanks to them! - I will update the pdf shortly, it was done before patch 2.0.4 and we published Queen of Blades since then. - I wanted to share an awesome parody of the Starcraft 1 story that was made by a guy called IJD GAF in the early 2000s. It gives a me a good time every time I read it: part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

Yep: http://phillgonzo.deviantart.com/art/Zerg-Compare-358688025
Direct link to high resolution of SC1 to SC2 Devourer, Queen (Classic), and Guardian.
(They did the defiler but ran out of time, so it was left untextured.)
Blizzard did it for modders .
(IMO, the Devourer looks sick. In game, it looks and animates really nice. Blizzard already set up the Devourer unit in the editor [use the HotS single player dependencies], so you can place it in game to see the animation and attacks without having to set it up all.)

Thx for the answers Telenil!
I think that all of us want to see that upgrade so the time doesn't matter, it will be done when it will be done! : D awesome work!
Thx all of you guys!

I'm curious, did Blizzard include a Sunken Colony, or can you use that Impaler Colony? The current iteration just looks really hacky.. and it'd be sweet to see an update on that one!

Thanks for this -- I first played an earlier version of this back in 2011, and it's nice to see that it's progressed so far in the past 1.5 years.
I've noticed that Episode II is now compatible with the 4.7b mod. Does this entail that everything is now compatible with it, or is Episode III still non-compatible? EDIT: Looks like Episode III is still out-of-the-loop.
I'm finding that when I play the game from within Battle.net, the "Continue Campaign" option doesn't work. Instead, I have to Quit the campaign and then manually choose the next mission. I don't remember this being an issue in 2011, so I'm not sure what's up. I only tested the Tutorial phase, but I thought I'd mention this here since it seemed a bit wonky. EDIT: This is limited to the Tutorial map.
Thanks again for your hard work.

These are amazing, thank you to all who worked on it.

This makes me sad as The Fall was EASILY the best campaign from the original game(s). Still, I'm REALLY looking forward to playing through this. It's gunna be legendary.

Hi there,
first of all, thanks for this very mod. I've recently bought SC2 WoL & HoTS and I've felt the campaign was a bit meh compared to good ole SC1 + BW, thus I was in search for a mod like this. Doesn't mean I'm a pro or a multiplayer beast like some of you, I just enjoy casual gaming and, from time to time, leveling up and replaying campaigns.
About leveling up... folks, this new SC1 incarnation is way more taxing and demanding than originals! I'm playing Rebel Yell and there's a couple missions I can't complete for the life of me.
1.- The Trump Card: after establishing your base and finishing first mineral & vespene nodes you have this natural to the right. Well, I can't set a base there. I'm getting constant waves of wraiths, tanks and marines. If I push with cloaked wraiths & kerrigan I get scan sweeped instantly. If I do with thanks and goliaths there's a ton of tanks, marines and goliaths on permanent patrol which decimate my forces in no time.
2.- The Big Push: more or less same story. I can't do proper micro when there's wave after wave of wraiths, tanks, goliaths and marines sieging my base over and over, also they come in BIG numbers... So I thought of doing an air strike with wraiths and science vessel but there's like 6 bunkers, two detecting towers and whatnot awaiting you just a bunch of yards away.
So, as you can see, I'm not a pro at all (I've beaten original SC1 + BW a couple times as well as WoL on Normal and Hard) but I think I can defend myself, haha. Does anyone have any suggestions to walk through these missions? Also, is the game so taxing from these points all around?
Cheers for the good work!
