I personally think the campaign is rather a waste of time and shouldn't be considered at all in these discussions since, at the end of the day, all anyone cares about is the multiplayer. However, if people are going to trot around going, "Oh, but you get a full new campaign! It's worth $40!" -- know this. Brood War gave 3 new campaigns and 3 new units per race, and it was still cheaper than this expansion. I don't mind the price as much, especially since they may lower it. However, what I am worried about is that this game still costs $60 in a lot of places as it stands and by the time this expansion comes out, it could potentially cost $100 to even start playing at the current level. Think about that for a moment: one hundred dollars, just to start playing a game. Do you honestly think that that is going to encourage new players to start in an already dwindling community overall? I hope they lower the price, or they do some sick bundle deal honestly. Brood War was $30 in 1998 dollars. In today's dollars it would be $41.72. It has 3 campaigns, yes, but a total of 26 missions. HOTS will have at least 20. Probably a couple secret/bonus missions as well. So, okay, BW wins by a couple missions. BW did not change the engine at all, though did include a couple new tilesets. Tilesets. The campaign "mission briefings" were largely unchanged. A few new background and animated gif portraits. 2d. SC2 is a fully 3D game. Producing maps, environments, cutscenes, and they are improving both the engine and battle.net. Battle.net also remained largely unchanged for BW. So boo hoo about the couple missions lost. The amount of work they put into the game far exceeds what they did for BW and they are charging essentially LESS in today's dollars.

Besides the obvious perks such as supporting TL and getting it on the day release. Even if no, I'll probably pre-order it anyway but I'm just wondering. This is what I really want to know. I know if you pre-order WOL at Gamestop they gave you a poster.

This is crucial for sc2 to survive as a e-sport because the casual base is everything. The population of casual players has dropped off dramatically, and while most of these people still watch sc2, it is unhealthy for the game as an e-sport if they do not actually play the game. Either way I am completely disappointed with how blizzard has yet to respond to the addressed problems, and the upcoming patch has some minor tweaks but still far from perfect. If blizzard actually had a bnet similiar to tft, then they would retain a lot of players and thus increase further expansion sales. /rant

I for one will not buy this game till I know exactly how the multiplayer will look. I do not doubt blizzard in terms of balance and gameplay, but they have completely neglected bnet and continue to do so even now. They need to understand that they will lose sales for such a shit service. This is crucial for sc2 to survive as a e-sport because the casual base is everything. Not only that, but Blizzard is far behind in UI and technical features. It's fine to have no LAN, but can't you at least give the feature of Reconnect from Disconnect feature like HoN? I know it isn't revolutionary, how about ELO rating system, would be nice to have ELO rating ontop of the current league system? The lobby of joining a game is so ugly and inefficiently uses screen space, do you really need long horizontal bars for each player? Patch 1.5 looks promising, lets see if they actually address UMS game listing, and chat window sizing. At the very least they can do is address the lack of LAN feature, if they don't it's not worth my money.

We could add a poll about that but the results would be biased on TL. Imo SC2 designers want players to play the campaign to get used to the game, while being entertained enough by the campaign itself to be willing to finish it. And I think it is the case. The campaign is really entertaining for itself imo, but even if not, it should at least be done to get used to some units. And of course I don't think nowadays many players would stuck on single player without playing online neither.

I agree to both your points. I thought the writing for the WOL campaign was very poor. Tychus and Raynor both had zero character... just one dimentional personalities. Which was frustrating to see. "Aw hell..." /gravelly voice But that doesn't invalidate my other two points. 1) It's slightly cheaper than BW 2) It has at 20+ missions vs 26 missions in BW, not this "3 campaign vs 1 shinanagans".
