I think we can all agree that Visine will help you spot invisible units.

Honestly I have everything on ultra and I can see observers quite easily. It could just be me however because when I play Protoss my observers never seem to get scanned. When I'm playing TvP however I'll almost always spot the observer.

A lot of experience in the game is the most important factor in spotting them. You basically want to know how terrain "should" look. When you see an anaomoly, there is a cloaked unit there.

I haven't seen much difference in helping spot this with different graphical setting. I'm not certain if you can spot burrowed units this way either.

Scanning an observer to kill it is situational. It depends on what units you want to use (banshees for example, how much income you have (is the mule really that important to have at this moment?) and whether the opponent getting scouting information is pivotal (you don't want your opponent see you pushing out or taking a hidden expo).

U just use the scroll wheel on your mouse back and forth quickly to zoom in /out...when for instance you view your army (cuz its usually there).....

i feel like people calling out graphics settings should back it up with a screenshot so we don't keep fueling rumors.

I play on all low (no choice) and i can spot invisible units pretty easy. Generally its just a blur so i guess all low everything?
Plays against every MU with nexus first.

I'm amazed no one has made picture comparisons on various settings to settle this question once and for all.

You'd think easiest visibility for cloaked units would be kind of a big deal.

TLO has said that if you have everything on low and textures on ultra/high then it is easier to see and that's what I use

and I can spot shit most of the time.

You can also just assume things like if you're fighting a protoss chances are he has an obs right over your army so a random scan won't hurt

Scroll in and out, you can spot invisible units even if they stand still.

Here are some screenshots of cloaked units on different graphics settings. The texture quality and graphics quality are set to said screenshot except for custom.

All cloaked/burrowed units except mothership are present in the pictures. They are all lined up and its very hard to tell, but there is a slight blur for the cloaked units. To start, the cloaked banshee is to the right of the stargate, and the observer right next to that. All other units fall right underneath those. You can't tell the difference with burrowed roach and infestor. Fullscreen the pictures or you won't be able to see anything.

Custom (Low texture quality, High shader, Ultra lighting, Medium shadow, everything else low/off.)

Out of all the settings, I found my custom to be the easiest to spot the units. Something about lighting really has an effect on the visibility of cloaked units. I haven't tested this on any other map tileset, but its a start.

Unless you are looking for it, things that are moving while burrowed are really hard to spot. But if you know that they are doing it, the ground changes slightly underneath. I don't know if a burrowed unit that doesn't move makes any difference.

I really couldn't see any of those at all...

Edit: I saw the banshee! Only when I fullscreened the custom settings one and zoomed in even further...

Burrow units make a dark patch and kick up dust when they move. Its actually really easy to spot once you know what your looking for.
